Dave W 1971/240Z rebuild
4 pointsI tried to stay out of the shop but I couldn't, resprayed the sugar scoop in the morning and spent the rest of the day doing fun stuff, installing shiny things. The new door handles I was raving about do have one flaw, the hinge pins are longer/wider than the original pins, so I had to file out a notch on both openings to accommodate them, then seal up the bare metal. Not a big deal but it wouldn't be difficult for them to just use a shorter pin.4 points

Is my throw out bearing correct?
3 pointsI have Exedy 240Z clutches (Made in Japan) in all five of my L28 Z’s and they are perfect. Do what you want, but if you order an Exedy pressure plate and disc and specify 240Z, you can then order the 240Z collar and throw out bearing from Motorsports and if you have any questions, those guys know what they are doing and can help you. They probably have the Exedy clutches too. If you do that, you can forget measuring…..you’ll reinstall with confidence! PS Make sure to confirm the size of your flywheel is a 225 mm (the facing looks awful wide in your pic) or you’ll need to order the clutch and collar for a 2 plus 2. Motorsport sales folks can help you with that too. 👍3 points

One Owner 1970 Blue/Blue
2 points@Bonzi Lon your's back from Saudi Arabia? Forgot to add that looks like a fine car and a good deal for the buyer. There's a guy not far from me with a white with blue interior 240. I've tried to PM him as I heard he was having some health issues but haven't gotten a reply. Maybe I'll ride out there one day soon and see if he got it put back together...2 points

headlight/parking light fuse heat relay upgrade
I did this back in October, running/tail light fuse was too hot to the touch, on the advice of the boys here I changed out all the running/tail lights and signals bulbs for LED's. The fuse is now the same temp as all the rest.2 points

Dave W 1971/240Z rebuild
2 pointsI think I am pretty much done, some how managed to screw up the other sugar scoop so have to re paint that as well, but other than that the buffing and polishing is done. Now this is by by no means a professional buff job, there still some spider webs that I can't get rid of, so Dave I recommend you find a good buff guy to give it that last little bit of correction. I have never been able to get spider webs out and I don't want to try something more aggressive on someone else's car. It is amazing what a guy who does buffing for living can pull out. I got the car off the rotisserie and back onto jack stands, I think I will take tomorrow off, give my shoulder a break.2 points

1 pointI have tried a few things but I can never get that clear glass look, they're only a few microns deep and they are all on the surface of the clear coat. Just haven't found the technique yet.1 point

4/75 Datsun 280Z; Leaf Green, CA market, 250K miles, Long Term Project 03/2023-
Yes, we don't put jack in until after. Typically we'd get a ply to the top and use big cabinet clamps to hold it. Maybe run a couple of GRKs down from the top. Then add the second ply. Jacks get added later and cut a hair long so they have to be driven end for a nice snug fit. Too snug and you will split them drving them in Another way to do this is add two blocks one on each end on the kings about waste high or a little higher. Set both plies there and gang them up. Then lift one end and add a block. Then the other. Seesaw it up near the top then use cabinet clamps or ratchet straps to top it out. Then add the jacks.1 point

But there's good marketing and bad marketing. If I couldn't buy one without it, the first thing I'd do is fill it and paint it!!1 point

Starter plunger stuck at normal engine temperature
Here's a trick that might tell you something. Connect a light or a buzzer between the starter solenoid wire and the solenoid terminal. When you turn the key to start the starter should work and the light should light or the buzzer buzz. If you turn the key to Start and you get a light or buzz but the plunger doesn't plunge it's a mechanical problem. If you turn the key to Start but there is no light or buzz then it's a heat-induced open electrical circuit. No current flow through the solenoid windings. The ground for the light or buzzer is on the other end of the windings.1 point

headlight/parking light fuse heat relay upgrade
All of the S30 headlight / parking light switches have this configuration on the switch posts, altho there may some slight differences in the wire color. The white/red wire is headlight power in and the red wire is headlight power out. The green wire is parking/tail/sidemarker power in and the green/white wire is power out. There is no ground in this setup.1 point

Is my throw out bearing correct?
1 pointI think that the Perfection kit I got might have been on the shelf for a while at the local auto parts store. Bought it in 2009. It was actually Zoom by Perfection if I recall right. Odds are it will work fine. Mine only had problems when it got hot. I got on to Summit and found this. Doesn't say Perfection in the title but does in the video. Who knows. They're probably all made at the same place. https://www.summitracing.com/parts/zzz-mu47594-1a/make/nissan/model/280z/year/19761 point

71' Fuel Filter Level
1 pointThe car drives just fine after tuning it up a bit. Can't believe the difference in spark between the points and the Pertronix, as viewed with the colortune. Have a slight vacuum leak at the butterfly shaft on the fwd carb, but that's a battle for another day. Thanks again for the help, everyone.1 point

Circuit board
1 pointJust for context, here's an image of the board. If you're thinking mass production then something easily machinable would be good. For one time, you might dull some tools cutting a glass-reinforced material. Stole it from here...1 point

1971 HLS30-14938 "Lily" build
1 pointA little more tinkering So I used an old hotel key to help get the clips on Thanks @Namerow It also helps to lift the scupper from the underside in order to get the clips on Here are the pin clips that come with the badges from Resurrected Classics I applied a tiny bit of urethane sealant at each post too. Then I covered them with towels and added some weight overnight So here's a question, I have the upper outer hatch seal. It has a bulb on it. But the lower side seals are squarish. Is this correct?1 point

I’m Back!
1 pointGents, I wanted to get on here and let you all know briefly why I’ve been gone and that I’m back. I’ll keep it brief and if you want to more details send me a message. About 8-9 months ago I had a medical incident that was a wake up call for me. It ended up with my in the ER with a doctor standing over me with cardiac paddles telling me they’re going to have to smock me. My job is 100% contingent on my health. Shortly after I notified the company I was placed on medical hold, and have been in this status until recently. This medical event was a watershed moment for me and I spent some time reflecting on my lifestyle and then came up with a game plan. I determined it was time to “Reset my life”. I had to reevaluate all my actions that impact me and make changes. This medical event opened up a host of other boxes with the FAA drilling down into every medical aspect of me. I had many doctors visits, saw specialists and found I had some blood work items out of normal ranges too. I had to do a couple sleep studies and so on. It was painful! It didn’t help I ran into incompetent people along the way which made me realize how broken our medial system is. I can dive into that later but because of incompetence and financial incentives by secondary medical providers who were calling themselves “experts” I was going to have to do treatment I didn’t need or want, So I had to become my own advocate and spent countless hours researching and educating myself. I read several book by “real” experts and had great advice from friends who are physicians. I became a pseudo expert is some medical areas and with the actions I implemented I turned everything around, I’d go see my doctor and we’d discuss items that he really knew nothing about. I was shocked at how our medical system works and how it is incentivized. So what did I do to reset my life. I changed everything; my Diet, Exercise, Nutrition , Sleep, and Stress; it all had to be changed. Because I didn’t have time to figure out exactly what I needed to do I used the “cast a wide net approach”. Do it all and hopefully i fix these issues. This ultimately worked, it wasn’t easy. I had to be disciplined and methodical and I was. In this time, I’ve lost 24 pounds, ( I wasn’t really heavy to begin with), I exercise for 60-90 mins 5 days a week (running 15-20 miles a week), taking multiple vitamins and supplements, track my sleep and O2 saturation every night, and removed all stressful activities I can. I stopped drinking alcohol, removed all sugar from my diet, The second order effects are many. First I feel better than I did 10 years ago, I’m never tired, I have more mental clarity, I dropped my LDL cholesterol 70 pts without medication, blood work is now normal, I sleep great. I stopped working on my car during this time for the most part. I did a little here and there but it hasn’t had anything really done to it. I do drive it now and then. I had to refocus my life and that meant 100% commitment to the things I determined were more important after evaluating everything. The tenants were: Family, Faith, Friendships, Spiritual and Mental Heath and overall personal Wellness. Everything else was placed on hold. The bottoms line is this long post is I’m back, I’m better, I’m going back to work in 2 weeks. This event was a blessing in disguise. That’s my story!1 point

[2024] What Did You Do To/with Your Z Today?
New member, first post! I fixed my windshield washers. Cleaned the reservoir, replaced the motor and all the lines, and cleaned the spray nozzles. It works now, for first time in 30+ years! In the process of yanking one of the old lines off, I stabbed myself with it. Who knew that 50 year old flexible tubing would harden enough to break skin!1 point
