  1. Remaining body work and paint completed over the long weekend.
  2. Update to close the loop on this thread, end play was correct on the countershaft so I installed a 1.65mm shim in the adapter plate for #19 and a 1.00mm shim in place for #18. The noise is gone after the rebuild and the transmission is smooth and quiet. I can only assume it was the misalignment and maybe some interference between 3rd gear and the synchro assembly causing the problem. Correcting that plus replacing all the bearings and it feels like a new transmission. @EuroDat @Zed Head @Dave WM Big thanks for your input and assistance on this.

You know, in the news outlets there are shades of truth like shades of grey! I used to read the FT (at the top of the curve) daily but recently cancelled my subscription. Why? Because I saw the most intelligently well thought out, biased and disingenuous reporting of a case I was very close to. They blatantly twisted / misrepresented facts in isolation to build a story and to suit their narrative; and in the process assassinated the character of someone I know personally. Fortunately he was strung up into a public hearing and got the opportunity to set the record straight on TV. The FT reporting made me realise just how so called respected media can also misrepresent facts to play out their own exciting / crowd pleasing stories as distinct from the boring truth that doesn’t sell papers / subs in quite the same way. So where does that leave us? Well I think one should read many sources (as you say reliable ones) and use one’s own logic, intellect and common sense to decipher facts from sensationalism, politics, personal / corporate agendas etc. Coming off soap box now - mic drop!
  4. Yes, the Rewinds don't come close to fitting over the S12 + W calipers. They only need to be ground down at the inner corner, the rest of the fins can stay in place. I also needed to install longer studs to get proper thread engagement on the Rewinds. Make sure you have enough threads engaged.
  5. How does my shopping cart look? Anything you guys would add/remove/change before I pull the trigger?

Guys I’m thinking we should close this thread. It’s not really related to Zcar’s and seems to be causing some issues. Unless we can learn to accept everyone’s opinion it’s just not worth it to keep going.

This is called living life. Some see living life differently than others. There are so many variables to covid. My 80 year old mother in law who is overweight, diabetic, and elderly stayed in her house for 2 months at the beginning of this, until she said screw it, "this is not living, I'm done" she said. When my wife and I had covid and didnt know it, We had spent time with her for a few days and she never had one symptom or issue (pre vaccine). My wife was really sick for 3 days and I felt like I was catching a cold off and on for 3 weeks. My point is, people as individuals have to make the call on what they believe is correct, arguing on levels from Federal to personal is wearing thin on many, and graphing from California, Australia, China is great, but is the end game to pit one group against another? Australia gave up on their goal of locking down the nation until 70 or 80% vaccinations because they realized that it was going to do more harm than good. I'm in Vancouver, WA today, and was out for a walk during the morning cool, and this woman walking towards me on the sidewalk quickly donned her mask and looked at me like I had snakes coming out of my ears, no I didnt have a mask on. What kind of world are we creating, and what are the positives of it?
  8. Here's a picture of the original vapor barrier on my 7/70 240Z, before I disassembled the door. It was held on with adhesive all the way around the perimeter. I assume 280's were similar.

After almost 2,000 entries on this topic, and while I haven't read them all, I don't recall seeing any stating anything like, "How could I have been so wrong. Thanks (insert screen name here) for opening my eyes to the truth about COVID." I doubt that many, if any, minds have been changed. I have however seen temper flares, false sense of superiority, and a little bullying. I'm in favor of ending this topic and maybe moving on to politics, religion, and global warming discussions if we really need diversions from the only reason everyone signed on to this forum - The Z.

My wife likes to argue about politics. I think it’s a waste of time. Given my background, I could argue with people about COVID and drown them in proven facts. But I don’t. The reason is I doubt one single mind would be changed.
  11. That's what I've always said, "beer's not drinking"! The cops don't agree with us either.
  12. It seems that clear zinc is correct. At least that is what is on the 70 - #00869 in my driveway. JLP
  13. Yup, just grind off what you need to, it won't hurt the caliper any.
  14. I’m leaving for a work trip is a few hours but managed to complete all the paint touch up work in the engine bay. Hopefully when I get back my Eibach Springs will be here and I can move forward with suspension and then the engine. Battery tray came out “okay” I’d give it C at best but it serves the purpose to stop further rusting and be a little cleaner. In the end, it’s an engine bay, so I’m not going to be too bothered by some paint flaws. I know all the rust in there is properly addressed and I can move forward. I can live with this.
