  1. This is for anyone interested. I'm in process of getting both doors working ship-shape, and I learned yesterday that putting washers between the door and the lower bolt of the front window guide rail (the metal piece that the big plastic slider on the window glass holder rides in) does wonders to realign the window. I was having just about every problem possible; window was cocking forward as it rolled up, window would stick on a roller and jolt as it moved up or down, window would just flat out jam in mid-travel, window would be angled way out and miss the chrome door sash completely, the works. By experimenting with different groups of washers placed between that front guide rail and the door sheet metal and then threading in the lower rail bolt, I was able to fix every one of the problems. Tightened up the regulator slop, put the window at the proper angle so it slides cleanly into the chrome sash, and somehow it even leveled out the window almost perfectly so it guides itself perfectly against the seal and seats firmly without the slightest fight. I ended up with three washers total, I'd guess about 3/16" worth of material. Pain in the arse to slide them in place, but it really did the trick. I don't know if this means the old regulator assembly is just old and loose, or if the plastic sliders are worn, or whatever else. Just know it worked, so if you're having problems with the window motion give it a shot.
  2. This whole thing would be so much better if the only people who got the disease were responsible, themselves, for getting it. Like tobacco and cancer. Tough luck! Or if we could track down the people who spread the actual germs that infected somebody you care about. Death penalty, please... That's the big dilemma. Many people are willing to gamble with other people's lives. That's the core of the argument.
  3. I concede. There is no definitive paper that measures the effectiveness of face covering. Quite a bit about N95 masks, but the studies are mostly about protecting health care workers. Not stopping the spread. A person just has to use logic to get there. Maybe the CDC is conning people, just to look like they're doing something. Who knows. The whole thing really is a hoax, and we're all suckers. Here's a good paper that covers much of the discussion points though. Knowledge of distributions, how filter media works, stuff like that. With the internet though, of course, you can find support for whatever makes you feel right. So, maybe start a new thread titled "Replies to Snarky Comments". "Your grandma's a burden on the healthcare system anyway!" "More for me!" "No more slow drivers! Yay" https://arstechnica.com/science/2020/04/should-you-wear-a-face-mask-heres-all-the-data-we-have/ https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/prevent-getting-sick/diy-cloth-face-coverings.html
  4. My 70 Z is a US car originally from Colorado (VIN in the 003500's) and it has the plastic 'clamshell' wiper motor cover. It came to Canada late in its life, so unlikely that the motor and cover were replaced with a 'Canadian-market' item. I think that this design was replaced by the bag for a few reasons: easier installation into the cowl cavity during vehicle assembly better protection of the motor from rain/snow less expensive to produce
  5. I bent the tab a little futher on the front float and i think i got it. I even used a 14mm bolt and a school ruler to verify. Tomorrow ill try on the rear carb.
  6. Thanks Zed, Ed and I have been corresponding. Ed is in Portland area like you and @Mark Maras
  7. 1 point
I totally agree, my wife calls it car jewelry!
  8. This weekend I also pulled off the cowl cover to remove the wiper motor assembly and inspect heater fan intake duct and surrounding sheet metal. I'm happy to report that I don't have a rust issue in this area. Here is a good discussion, with fixes, on this subject: Here are some pictures of what I found, I was surprised to see that, except for over spray, the wiper motor cover was fully intact and that the grommet was also in very good condition. I also took some time and cleaned up the wiper motor cover. Before and after pictures attached. Anyone know when the change to a bag for the cover happened?
  9. Cool mod. What's old is new again. http://modelabasics.com/Ignition.htm
