  1. Saturday was Zup's Birthday. Some friends and neighbors stopped by to wish him well. Great food & a very special desert. Happy Birthday Jim! My best friend ever!
  2. Fantastic, congrats! One thing to remember is you're almost sitting on the rear axle and that front end is quite a ways out there. You wouldn't believe how may dented front of the hoods I've seen over the years due to people not realizing how far out in front the nose really is. The rest of that is to remember not to turn too soon and hit curb with the rear wheel.
  3. The checklists in this book will tell you a lot. Good news on the FPR, although you do have an extra one now. Weird that you know what I'm cooking for dinner...
  4. Thanks Jim2! And Charles, and Gary and Guy.... Had the best Birthday ever! Such good friends came to celebrate here at home and many thanks to you all for your wishes and influence in my life----you really are so special to me. Kagy (the wife) gave me a button to wear on my 70th that said--- In dog years...I'm dead! Well... closer for sure... but not yet... thankfully! You guys are the best!!!
  5. Ditto that from me too Charles. He gave me an early present when he sent me a door for my sculpture.......a super member!
  6. A little cake, a little carburetor , what else can a man ask for? Hope it was a good one @Zup!
  7. Zed for your edification, here's a head on, dead on shot of the gauge at zero.
  8. Has anybody confirmed that the injectors are the factory green or tan NA injectors and not the purple/brown turbo injectors? Always worth confirming.
  9. you want to make sure the TPS sensor is working per the FSM, its on at idle, then off just off idle, until about 1/2 throttle movement, then on again . think its pin 2 to ground (on at idle, off as you move away from idle) and then pin 3 to ground (on about 1/2 and up to full throttle).
  10. So now on to more test, this time you want to move on to the water temp sensor, check a the 36 pin connector, compare to the FSM. this is important since you don't wan to have the thermotime and water temp sensor leads mixed up. Reading at the 36 pin connector make sure wiring is correct and connection are good. After that you want to check the AFM air temp sensor and the Static reference resistance readings I think its 6&9 one of them should read 100 ohms. Also if not already done clamp off the fuel supply to the cold start valve. You don't want to be leaking. If its clamped it can't let any fuel in, even if it is defective.
  11. I have results from the loaner fuel pressure gauge..... they're good. My fuel pressure gauge was way off. (chicken dinner for Zed) ? Here's the results: Fuel Pressure with Fuel Pump ONLY: 36-38 psi (hard to tell from angle of camera, but well within spec) Fuel Pressure with Engine Idle: 34 psi (RPM = fluctuates between 400-500 at idle) Fuel Pressure with Engine Idle and OIL CAP OFF: 32 psi (RPM = fluctuates between 600-1,000 at idle) When idling, if I open the throttle.... initially the engine hesitates then starts to rev to higher RPMs. With the oil cap OFF the engine will return to idle. With the oil cap ON the engine will drop to idle, then stall and will not start. Only_Fuel_Pump.MOV Engine_Idle_Oil_Cap_ON.MOV Engine_Idle_Oil_Cap_OFF.MOV
  12. Very few experts still alive for these AFM's. Stick with it and these guys will help you get it sorted. Even some of the refurb'd AFM's run rich. Your problem is solvable. Just need to have confidence in the test results. Confirming your gauge is good is probably a good move.
  13. It's your horse. I think I'm out. This isn't about making an old Z run right anymore. Good luck.
  14. Like I said, it was the angle of the dangle.
  15. I think that we've all been just farting around with a bad gauge the whole time. Pittsburgh is a Harbor Freight brand. It's been fun. I have three gauges in my garage, two good ones and bad one (but with a known offset). His FPR's are probably fine. The AFM has probably been adjusted, by somebody, in the past. Might have some high resistance on the coolant temperature circuit. But, without "knowns" you're just stumbling around in the dark.
  16. only other far out possibility is a Godzilla pump putting out so much volume it just overwhelms the system. I am going to do some test on volume as well (a timed measurement). outside of that I am all out of suggestions.
  17. Your gauge has a 2-3 psi offset from the beginning. Have you ever seen the needle on zero?
  18. Kinda looks like the old starfighter, they have one at the Hamilton war plane museum, me in my 1st Z
  19. Congrats on the milestone! Your Z disease is now irreversible and it shows. ?
  20. After 18 long months of tinkering in the garage, I finally get to drive the 680G.
  21. My test drive last night, 10 minute test drive turned into a 1 hour cruse! I forget how much fun this car is to drive over the winter months.
