  1. Hoarding parts........not a problem......hoarding Z's.....you need expensive therapy.
  2. You call that hoarding?

I paid $450 for my very minimal rust '74 in 2009. The floors are solid and the only rust was the battery tray and a small spot in the rear quarter where mice had built a nest. Mechanically, it was used-up, but with lots of used parts out of my stash, zero body work and a super quick paint job, it was ready for the track.
  4. I have cancelled my hoarding counseling with Dr. Wack. In my defense I used this post to prove that I am not qualified to be considered a true hoarder. As I said before, I am just glad that these caches exist it gives hope to the future preservation of our passion. Keep the photos coming......
  5. Well, she's home. I'll head to the DMV first thing in the morning to try and get the registration all taken care of. It was a long day of driving back and forth, but worth it. The car is a really solid, honest car. The seller had the undercarriage steam cleaned which is why it photographed so well. The paint looks to have been polished some, but I don't see any spots where they burned through. It is definitely a time capsule, and will need some cleanup. Seller didn't have both plates on hand, said he'd find the other one and mail it to me. No service history, but i guess you can't have everything. Turn signal switch not working, not sure if the DMV will test them or not. I've already found a rare restoration part that I'm hoping to go pick up tomorrow which I'll share once I've secured it. I guess the protocol would probably be to start a new thread over in the S30 section about build progress.

Me too! Jeff you remember when I bought mine a few years ago. The guy wanted $5500 and told me he had gotten a ton of calls, one from a fellow in Michigan I thought was you. It didn't run and the stock picture on the left in my signature I paid $2,000 three years ago. I've put $5,000 in it since then and now it's insured for $25,000. My insurance company requested photos of every inch of it but they agreed and did $25K. The Z gods were with me the day I bought that one.
  7. Funny, at one point in our marriage about 7 years ago, my wife told me I was crazy and needed help, unrelated to Z's of course, so I spent a year in counseling just to prove I was the sane one! At the end of the year it was quite nice to be considered "normal", whatever that means!
  8. I am in awe..... I thought I had an issue with two motors, three tranny's, two diffs and a few dozen small items....!
  9. I should be getting my 72 back from getting body work done soon, and pages like this inspire me to get it done right and with quality. Thanks! I might start my own, from shell to runner. No idea how long it will take - I'm in a driveway and I have a job and kids and a wife and kids and a job and wife and kids and job and wife.
  10. Decided to slap some meatballs on it for kicks. I think it is coming together. I will get the bubbles out later. I am chasing an aggravating electrical issue that popped up out of no where.
  11. Correct (S30 type) emblem on left. Incorrect (S130 type) emblem on right. The 432 going to auction has the incorrect, flatter profile (and plastic...) S130 type bonnet emblem.
  12. Rough cut for the shock towers. Looks good and the strut brace I add later will reinforce from the top too.
  13. It is possible he never sold the radio as he first told me back in Nov. Now the radio is $800 and the rest of the car comes with it for free.
  14. I call that hoarding heaven! Thanks for sharing.
  15. No it's not. Look again. Fairlady badges are thicker and looks a bit different. 280zx is flat like on this car.

FYI Chuck, Discount Tire Direct has 15x7 Rewinds on sale a few times per year. I bought two sets for my race car at $360/set delivered.
  17. Okay, I mounted this side on and dropped the car. First I had no idea I had burned through so much of my old Yokohama S drives. They are over half gone. Second. I am not totally sure on the look. I think maybe once I get the 240Z black door stickers on it may look better. I have grown so accustomed to the Panasports, these look really different. The front centercap is NOT going on. Without some hammer work. For comparison
  18. There's a little before and after picture of the last year.
  19. I'm going to have Eiji build the bottom end. A stroker motor is something totally new for me. He knows which rods and piston heights to use with my Z Doc head. Also, with a stroker motor, there are mods that must be performed on the block. I want to put the rest together.....I just enjoy the build and want to feel like it's my engine. I'm thankful to have Eiji as a friend that will work with me and give me advice on building this motor......he's amazing!
  20. Way to go, you should be very proud of your effort. Just take your time and enjoy the process. Try to make a list of things you feel you absolutely must do and things you just would like to do, and then a list of things that would be nice, but you do not need to do. Keep in mind how the car will be used? Be honest and enjoy the project. Do not let the 'while I am here' get out of control.
