Update: Paint is on! Went with the original color the car was born with, 240 Green. My painter used Sherwin Williams paint with about 3 coats clear. These teaser shots are while it is curing for a couple of days in the sun. Once cured, He's going to go over it with a wet sand them going to buff off a coat of the clear. Anxious is not a word I use very often, but today I am .
  2. Get rid of them, they mess with the swirl and flow. I cut mine off with a sawzall, drilled the passages, tapped the holes and used a bolt. then welded the tops and bottoms. You could just use a bolt and gasket, cheap and easy.
  3. , understatement of the year.... ! In other news, the rotisserie arrives this Thursday!
  4. Just watched a guy on UTube straighten a warped six cyl. head. .007 brass shims under the ends, baked it 5-6 hours at 500` and let it cool in the oven. He baked it twice until the cam towers were aligned then sent it out to be surface milled.
  5. You're going to be busy this winter!
  6. I think you are talking about the metal "bracket" (used for lack of the correct word) that has to be bent down around the fuel inlet on top. You can take the screws out like Mark says and that bracket will be loose, lay it off to the side and gently pry the lids off, probably still tearing the one use gaskets. Here's a picture of what I'm talking about, it's called a brace. The big bolt with the internal fuel filter goes through it. Bottom right corner of this picture is the thing that has to be bent to loosen the banjo bolt. Probably confusing you more as I'm no good at explaining, sorry. Get the DVD "Just SUs" from Z Therapy, it's a must if you've got SU carburetors that you want to work on.
  7. I am just now seeing this thread but glad you came to your senses Zed. I will only add the words that the original owner of my Z had for me when I got to meet him a few weeks ago, "great looking car, makes me wonder why I ever sold it" And he had it for twenty-five years. The energy and excitement of getting a new car is definitely intoxicating, but it comes and goes. However, the regret of letting one go is a pain that never completely goes away.
  8. The internet is a big place, but fortunately there is help in finding your way around when you feel lost. Previously, I gave you the steps required to search the message archive on this site. Allow me to expand on that and open the entire internet for you. To find information about Sugru, or any future topic you wish to explore, follow the steps below. Print them out for future reference 1. Open a Google search window on your computer (www.google.com). 2. This is where it gets tricky....type a word or words related to what you're looking for into the "Search" box. Since you're looking for information about Sugru, type "Sugru" in the "Search" box and hit the Enter/Return key. Stay with me on this. 3. Scroll down through the list of topic related web sites that appears until you find the one that contains the Official Sugru company web site. Click on it. Explore the wealth of information. You'll also see sites like Amazon that sell the product. 4. You are now empowered. No more need to ask for basic search help. As I mentioned to you in another topic, paraphrasing something I read in the Bible, "Do an Internet search for a man and you remove his lack of knowledge but once. Teach a man to search and and you keep him from bugging you with search questions forever." Dennis
  9. I agree, about once very three years I have started a thread like this. You guys keep me sane.. It is next to impossible to sell a car without a single bad vice. End thread.
  10. I finally found some time to take out the engine. I was surprised how easy this is! So much space in the engine bay. Because "the winter is coming" I will have more time so I decided to strip down the engine and give it a good care whilst it is out of the car. Hopefully, there will be no other surprises like before.
  11. Nice sunday ride for a photoshoot .
  12. Its been a while, but it been just too bloody hot to work on the car lately. I've had the bumper brackets a couple of days now and decided to brave the heat and fit them today. All the brackets so far are hand made and a little shabby here and there because I have been making corrections, redrilling, rebending etc. The final brackets will be cut with a laser and look a lot better than these. Just need to make the same adjustments in the dxf files. The bumper brackets are made from 3mm, but the final brackets will be 4mm. The 3mm would be ok for fibreglass, but I think they would be too flexable for the chrome or stainless steel bumper. Fitting the bumper bracket. Still need some washers and painting here and there. That will happen when it comes apart for the final brackets. Everything back together. If anyone is interested in a set, I plan to cut a couple of sets (while Im at it). A kit could include: 2x Bumpers brackets with ss bolts and nyloc nuts. 2x Grill top mounts. 2x Grill bottom (side) mounts. 2x Long vertical bars for the grill plus M3 bolts and nyloc nuts. (These are to convert the grill from 7 to 9 bars and lower the 240z grill centre anchor to connect behind air-dam) 2x Side vertical bars for 9 bars plus M3 bolts and two extra nuts for side mounts. 2x Brackets to mount the horn. (On the 77-78 the horns were mounted on the bumpers shock) Everything except the 4 verticle bars is made from Stainless steel 304, bolts and nuts are A2-70. The 4 verticle bars are aluminium. Instruction how to get there (without all the experiments I went through).
  13. Looks like the 240Z air dam will fit and cover the front cross member on the 280Z. The cross member is about 9" under the bumper. I took some phots, but the angle is deceiving. The measurements are: From the bottom edge of the hood to top of bumper is 10cm (4") Botom edge of bumper to lowest edge of the cross member is 22cm (8.7")
