  1. Spent the day with Zup at a nearby casino classic car show. Huge turnout. 99.9% Detroit iron, and sadly, no import or daily driver class or JimD & his beautiful 240 would have surely walked away with a 1st place victory. (I think he is trying to close the gap with jfa.series1 in trophy collecting) There was a total of 4 import cars including our Datsuns. Tough to compete when your in the 1960 - 1980 classic class with all those domestic beauties. A great time, thanks Jim ... and I only lost 20 bucks in the casino (the import car section)
  2. I spent a bunch of time taking optional stuff off that my previous owner had put on. So on my list... I guess I forgot about that one so I added it to my list of SOP. Stuff will be out of place. Stuff will be missing. Stuff will be wired wrong. Stuff will be put on backwards. Stuff will be leaking because it's too loose or too tight or because it's standard thread when it should have been metric. Stuff will have been modified and/or added that wasn't done right or are just things that you don't want or need.
  3. Well to stop chasing my tail I put the dizzy and wires back on to take the MS out of the equation for any running issues. When I installed the Ole School ignition back on I made sure to do it in a way that was completely separate power sources from the MS set up and to make the swap fast and easy. Happy to say that the engine is back and stronger than ever. Not hardly broke in but breaking the tires loose between gears for that lovely "chirping sound". Acceleration is very quick and pulls hard until I'm scared to Rev anymore:) What's really nice is the jetting seems to be in a very good place for all aspects of driving. I'm not touch the carbs for a long while. Trans shifts flawlessly up and down. I can just drive it and enjoy it for a while.
  4. I ordered a 5K pot earlier today based on other threads. I'll bring a vacuum gauge, too. I'm hoping the remaining problems are electrical in nature and not clogged injectors. Of course, I didn't see much in the way of vacuum lines on the intake. I'll have to do some studying in the FSM.
  5. Hi all, As soon as I got home I had to take a pain pill and lay down. My leg was in some serious pain. I did not do anything before that, only helped the tow truck driver to get her in the carport. That was all I could do at the time. Just now, I went out and checked the gauge, it was on about 34. Progressed to starting her. No grinding, she instantly started. After that, checked the gauge again, and it was around 32. Both of these events surprised me. I had expected negative results. But I am hopeful that since they were positive that this is a good thing, for the next step of her repairs. Cliff, yes indeed Steve is a Southern Gentleman 100%. I am so fortunate for him volunteering to help me with my RedBird. Jai
  6. Thank you Jim for another very enjoyable outing with the Z'z! The weather was warm in stark contrast to the sweltering temps and humidity in Memphis. A very nice drive over to the show--- For a moment we thought Cliff had shown up in his non-Datsun entry----a Duster! We thought sure it would win this coveted one of a kind trophy for it's meticulous attention to detail. Alas, it was not Cliff's entry but an Arkie cousin's prized piece of Detroit history. Jim S. explaining the transition of 240z to 280z to one of many respectful, very complimentary participants for the only 2 Japanese sports car entries at the event. We were totally surrounded by American ground pounding muscle and a century of Big Three production. A few more photos--- A 100 point '55 Ford Fairlane that was a big winner--- Suicide doors anyone?--- Early times--- Fast times--- "Too much time on my hands"--- Good times for sure Jim!!--- That's All Folks! Zup
  7. Solid looking rocker panels and rear quarters/wheel arches. It appears that Zs rust less when totally submerged. Note to Self: Park the '71 in pool tonight. Dennis
  8. What do you mean by "drop"? Are you saying that the weight of the valve itself is enough to pull it down against the friction of the seal? If it weren't for the seal getting hung up on the keeper groove, the valve would fall completely out of the head? I've never tried that, but I always assumed the valve seals were tighter than that. Not the case?
