A quick look through the article and I didn't see a reference to an LD28 block

I believe they used an Australian RB30 crankshaft, 90mm stroke, 90mm bore on a sonic tested L28 block (rare), Honda sized rods due to crank journal sizes, Stuart Wilkins Motorsport big bore headers and also a custom flywheel as the rear of the crankshaft is thinner altering the flywheel clutch position. It's a little over 3.4L.

Yep Gareth is right, RB30 crank needs considerable modification however once you machine an LD28 crank it's kind of negligible costs wise.. between the 2.

LD28 blocks are indeed taller and may be an advantage in that regard, however only way to know how good it is sonic test for bores and see how much "meat" is left in the walls.

Although not directly related to the L-series (applies to RB30's), this may give some idea as to which blocks are best.. (They look at RD28's) which is probably similar to the LD28 block (which is likely to be thicker due to being a Diesel motor and casting) but I've never tested.

I always wondered if the issue was due to the stroke. An L28 block needs added clearance once you go to the LD28 crank. I think the LD28 has a larger clearance for the bigger stroke as well.

As for value, very few people will be interested in the LD block, rebello might buy it from you so give him a call. I just bought an LD crank in great shape for 1100 shipped. shipping was $100. I think this is a fair price for the crank based on the current market.
