Guys, seen few videos and following the directions but there is too much rubber to align the 4 holes. The videos say taller edge on the outside. I am thinking to flip it and use the taller edge inside what you think. This is a nightmare and i have already got too small scratches to the new paint!!! what to do?

I'm at a crossroads here. I stumbled on this 7/70 240z yesterday, and drove 8 hours round trip to pick her up today. HLS30-07631 The previous owner acquired a 75 acre junkyard in Michigan. He said he pulled this 240z out of a barn where it sat for 30 years. Mostly complete, and mostly all early Series 1 parts are present. So what do I do? Surely I could part her out, chop her up, and make a sizable profit. The other side of me wants to get the matching numbers motor running, get her titled, and let someone take on the project of restoring her to her former beauty. So far I've polled a couple Facebook Datsun groups and the majority of voters are s…

It was a single pinging/knocking that sped up when revving, and it occasionally was a louder knock like something was loose, so I immediately shut it down. This all happened while under the garage at cold startup. I've taken off the valve cover and don't know where to start to diagnose. Here are pics. Any help on what is the most likely culprit and path to diagnose is much appreciated. Thanks.

... with a bad attitude! I just wanted to let y'all know I got my engine back together. It's all cleaned up, checked part by part, refurbished, refreshed, painted pretty, reassembled, double checked, triple checked, etc. It started on the first try, but it ran much like it did before -- exhaust blowing hard and puffing with frequent misses. Engine vacuum a bit lower than before I started -- about 11 in Hg. I had occasional hesitation upon revving, with occasional light backfiring. I had resolved at that point, having gone through the whole system, to make my final adjustments at the AFM... which is what I did. I first gave the vane a gentle push towards the open/e…

Working on a customer's 1973 240Z with early AC compressor. Looks like removing the bad fuel pump and installing a new one will require substantial disassembly. Is there an easier way to swap the pump without disassembling half the car? Got off the two nuts on the top of the pump but can't find a way to reach the bottom one.

Hello, does anyone know (or could easily measure) the diameter of the clevis pin for the clutch pedal for a 280z? Also would like to know the thickness of the clutch pedal that the clevis bracket goes around. I can't measure mine right now and was hoping someone else might be able to. Thanks

Well after spending the past month in the "Help Me!" section, my 1975 280z lives! I figured it is a good time to start a build thread in the proper section to showcase my next steps. Lets see, where do we start? The story goes that this 1975 280z was an Arizona car for the majority of its life. The owner parked it sometime around 1993 (last registered tags) due to an "ignition issue". It certainly looks the part for sitting nearly 30 years. Odometer says 80k miles, but maybe this is 180k? Looks like it was the silver blue originally then repainted, and finally the fading took over. The engine turned freely and nothing seemed to be seized. It was a clean title and onl…

It seems like from looking online, I see a lot of hit and miss with chrome plating. Does anyone have a recommendation for a place that does high quality work? I'm looking to get the following re-plated: 1971 Datsun 240: front and rear bumpers and bolts that secure the bumper ends to the center section gas door latch/"lock" ash tray bits (like the grill thing you put cigarettes out on) exterior door handles The bumpers have light taps (high and low spots) and will need copper filling or whatever to get them straight, but they have very little rust since they are from an Arizona car that then sat in a garage for 28 years.

I always used VR1 in my race car with great results. When it was super hot out, I'd run 20W50, but I'd usually run 10W40. I am trying to buy some now for my street Z and I cannot find it anywhere. They still sell 10W30 and 20W50 on Amazon, but the 10W40 seems to be gone. Valvoline's website still shows 10W40 VR1, so it's not discontinued. When I lived in MI, my local Napa store always carried all viscosities of VR1, but in AZ, I can't find anybody that stocks it at all. Amazon only has 20W50 and 10W30. Here in AZ, the Fall/Winter temps range from lows of 30F to highs in the 80's, so I think 10W40 is still the best viscosity. Should I keep looking, or switch to som…

A couple of weeks ago I was at the Grand America hotel for a dinner in downtown Salt Lake City. As I was leaving, I spied with my little eye a white early vintage 240Z that appeared to be original down to the "D" hubcaps. The owner and partner were just getting in so I yelled and asked what year and he yelled back to me 1970. I was in a queue so not able to stop and chat or I would have. The car did have Utah vintage plates so it should probably be within about 50 miles of downtown SLC. These cars are few and far between in this neck of the woods. Looking at the community map I wasn't able to zero in on anybody. Would be nice to meet this person and their car.
