Hi guys, i've been reading a variety of old posts here and on hybridz and feel pretty confident about what I am about to start on... however i do want to think out loud to everyone here (John C, JMortensen, 2ManyZs, etc) to make sure that i've dotted my i's and crossed my t's i am using advanced design struts with 280 housings. for now, i am going to use the 1.5~2" piece of pipe GC supplied to space out the front struts inside the stock housing. I may turn something nicer on the lather somewhere down the line. for the rear, we're looking at about a 4-5" difference between the AD strut and the stock strut - so there's some sectioning needed. Instead of having the rear inse…

Hi All, I was just out driving tonight with my 72, and while on a curvy road, my steering wheel just started to shake viloently while holding the steering towards the left. I tried to replicate the problem again and it only does it occasionally. I looked under the hood and the steering coupler rubber which separates the steering rod has allot of play while tugging on it by hand. Could this be the reason for the vibration in the steering wheel while turning? The car never vibrates while driving straight, even at speeds near 80mph. I always noticed the steering to be not as responsive compared to the effort I put into steering the car. As if there was some flex or a rubber …

Hi all, Like many other late 73 240 owners I too have the downward facing "C" shaped rear swaybar bracket welded to the chassis but no swaybar. I'd like to see a pic of a 260 or 280Z with the factory bar because I am after the plate that bolts into that bracket and holds both the bushing and sway bar in place. I called Courtesy and while they can find the right exploded diagram for that part of the car on the 260 and 280, and can produce a part number for the rubber bushing, they cannot find any indication for the plate. Before I make my own, I wanted to see what the factory one looks like. Could a 260/280 owner please post a pic of what their stock setup looks like? I'd …

so iwas about to start a streeing rack swap on my 77Z and found that one of the TC rod nuts backed out of torque specs and was loose against the large retaining washer (urethane bushings installed several months ago). i tightened it up and voila! no more wiggly steering wheel. moral of this story. CHECK YOUR SUSPENSION NUT/BOLTS TORQUE SETTINGS every couple months and use mid grade Lok-Tite

Hi all, I was disassembling 4 spare used 280z strut housings that I bought recently and found that one of the gland nuts did not match the other three. Would anyone have a spare "tall" one for sale? Here's a pic of the little one compared to the big one... Big one is 55mm wide at the top, and is 20mm tall. Little one is 51mm wide at the top, and is 14mm tall. Thanks, -e

I'm working on a 78 280Z for a friend of mine and I need the rubber coupler for the steering column, this one seems very sloppy. Also the L/H strut is leaking, it needs new gland packing assy. ( has an oil seal & O'ring) I believe it is called. Will I need to get these through the dealer or does someone know of a private supplier to get the OEM parts. Thanks, pedro

I recently came across a rear anti-sway bar that I'd like to put on my 72 Z. I just got a set of end links with bushings, so now all I need are the two brackets and bolts that attach the bar to the frame. Anybody know where I could find these? Would it be a Nissan 260z/280z part? I hate to go to the dealer for these unless I have a part number, they just scratch their heads when it comes to old Z parts. Thank you in advance...

I do not want to keep my originial dampers and springs. So i want te car to be low on the ground. I have some questions, as i am still new to Datsun. What is the original spring height front and rear? How low can i go while stil using 15 inch rims with not that fat tires, say 215/50/15 I want the front to be lower on the ground than the rear but just a bit.

I searched the forums; didn't quite find a match. My 1973 240Z has new: Eibach springs, Tokico Illumina's (all 4 sides), factory diff mount. Previous owner installed a R-180 LSD, 280ZX 5-speed trannie. I hear horrible clunking NOT when driving down the road or when shifting gears - my problem surfaces when I'm driving through the neighborhood (i.e. stop sign; turn left; stop sign; turn right). Sound is horrific. My mechanic said my u-joints were tight... what else should we be looking for to figure this out?

I was going to finally order those tie rod ends, ball joints, and rack boots, and other rubber suspension parts for my '73 240. I just want to stay oem so I got out my Victoria British catalog but when I look on line it appears that they do not do Zs anymore. Did they sell this part of the business to someone? Is Motorsport now the place to buy suspension parts, rubber bushings etc? Any other recommendations. I don't want a hot rod. These kyb's have softned up the ride quite nicely so I don't want to mess that up. Too many back surgeries. I'm lucky to be able to drive it at all. Sorry if this ancient history. I've been daily driving for a while since I put on t…

Tried finding info on this part with no luck. When I was cleaning up the rack this plastic piece broke off. If I knew what it was I might be able consider a fix or replacement. This came off the passenger side.

My son bought a 74 260z and we are restoring it to the best running condition we can. Question #1 is, when we tighten the nut on the tie rod end it tightens about 6 turns then the whole thing turns any way to get it to tighten more? #2 Can you use metal brake lines for the fuel lines running from the tank to the engine? we have done all the suspension, ball joints and rebuilt the engine and hope to have it going in about a month, the interior is in showroom quality but we need to find a drivers fender. I hope someone can help us. this is my sons first car. Thanks
