  1. VW R32. Think GTI with 250 HP 32v V6, 6 speed, huge brakes and all wheel drive. Tall greenhouse, should be fine for tall drivers.
  2. Yes, 240Zs got heavier as time went on, but the bigger differences didn't show up until '73 with reinforced bumpers. A '72 isn't all that much heavier than a '70 or '71, I'd guess 50 lbs. or so. Curb weight was listed at 2355 for a '70. I wouldn't sweat the weight differences.
  3. Yeah, but worse condition. They need a fair amount of help.
  4. That's an option, but they will need some serious work, re-machining in some cases. The cost to make a set of the wire mags (I have a total of 8 of them) look as good as I want will be more than what I'd have to pay for the NOS wheels. So if I can get tires that I'm satisfied with on the NOS, that may still be the way to go.
  5. I edited the title, since it occurred to me that 14x7 Konig Rewinds have much the same offset as the Appliance do. So comments from Rewind owners would be relevant as well. Thanks, Chris. I'm hoping I won't have to go that small on tires, I prefer to see more rubber under my car than that. But it's good info. If I take them off, I'll let you know. But two of them don't look nearly as nice in person as they do in pictures. They're fine from 10 feet, but up close -- not so much. Which is exactly my problem. I like the look, but the wheels themselves are not good enough for the rest of the car.
  6. Any new input on this from anyone? I still haven't moved on this, but I'm leaning toward doing it.
  7. Again, I don't understand this problem. As if these parts are mounted properly, they should not really move any significant amount with suspension movement.
  8. Probably fine if you like that style.
  9. Good point, Jon. I hadn't thought of that.
  10. In theory, neither the differential not the cross-part of the sway bar should be moving up or down with suspension travel. The diff should be fairly firm, and only move under torque loads. The sway bar should twist, but the center part should never move vertically. If there is movement of this type with suspension travel, one or the other of these parts are not mounted securely.

Would help us if you posted a link.
  12. Well, for here out West, no, probably not. But in Connecticut? Sure, you can buy a car like that out here for a lot less, but then you have to get it shipped, and how do you spend that much on a car without checking it over in person? As a clean, East Coast car with little or no rust, $21k probably isn't out of line.
  13. I think the one he's talking about is this one: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Cars-Trucks___1972-DATSUN-240Z-2-DR-COUPE-TROPHY-WINNER_W0QQitemZ380063093816QQddnZCarsQ20Q26Q20TrucksQQddiZ2282QQcmdZViewItem?hash=item380063093816&_trkparms=39%3A1|65%3A1|240%3A1308&_trksid=p4506.c0.m245 Not bad, but I'd rather buy this one inste4ad: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Cars-Trucks___1971-DATSUN-240Z_W0QQitemZ280267272795QQddnZCarsQ20Q26Q20TrucksQQddiZ2282QQcmdZViewItem?hash=item280267272795&_trkparms=39%3A1|65%3A1|240%3A1318&_trksid=p4506.c0.m245
  14. I'm still hunting for the perfect set of vintage rims for my car. When I find them, I'll consider Terry for the restoration if needed. His work appears to be great.
  15. OK, I was wrong. I went out and looked, my 7/71 car has the black horns as pictured above by Mike B. The dark olive horns must have been on one of the two cars I parted, either 10/70 or 4/71. I'll look through my notes and pictures to see if I can figure out which.
  16. This is off-topic, but Carl and Ron, your cars are gorgeous! Two BIG thumbs up!
  17. Well, he may be slow, but he's good... They look great!
  18. Seth, I ended up buying a new aftermarket windshield when I painted mine. All the used Nissan glass I found were pitted, or had wiper blade scrapes.
  19. Mine are the same. Same color as used on the seat sliders.
  20. I was going to say, if it was close to me I'd already have it at that price.
  21. Interesting as trivia, but meaningless. Many states in the US had different rules on titling and registration. As long as the car was sold prior to the end of the year, it was legal to title it as a '70 in some states. My yellow car was a 10/70, so one month prior to that car. The emissions sticker under the hood said it conformed to 1971 model year standards. That tells me that - regardless what the production date and title say - Nissan considered it to be a 1971 model year car. I'll bet that the sticker for the car in the auction (probably long gone by now) said the same.
  22. Yes, for late '71 and newer.
  23. No. Nissan does not have those records, or if they do, they are not available to the public.
  24. I bought the gaskets, seals and synchro rings from Nissan. Got the bearings from a local bearing specialist.
