Bench Testing Wiper Motor
I currently have my 240Z wipers all torn apart and being rebuilt, and documenting the process. The only 2 thngs I can see that would cause that would be either the mechanical connector to the wiper motor being installed 180 degress from how it should be, or the spring in that connector assembly being broken, allowing the connection to rotate out of normal position. Some day I'll have a "How to" article for 240Z's on this subject. I wouldn't think that 280Z's could be significantly different.

Amco accessories
Hi Wayne: On the 2 out of 3 240Z's that I have owned which had these console lids, two holes needed to be drilled at the rear of the console by the installer. The OEM Nissan replacement console that I bought in 1999 did not have holes in the rear to mount anything. Yeah, the hinge on the lids that I've had were indeed simple generic hardware store hinges. Not sure what you mean by "the hinge is placed so it swings at the back, rather than swing on the passenger side as stock lids." What "stock lids" are you refering to? 280Z? I'm not familiar with those consoles.

Amco accessories
I don't know if they were available as an factory option on Z's destined for other countries but those overrider bars were sold by aftermarket companies (most notably AMCO) in my area and at my local Datsun/Nissan dealership, all of these AMCO items were "dealer options" on new Z cars.

Clean one on e-bay
Yes, they did Vicky. They applied it under the car, in the engine bay, they even drilled holes in the door jams, and other structural channels to inject the Zbart stuff into hidden areas of the chassis. the holes were then capped.

Let's see how the bidding compares to Burt's silver 71 Z just a week or so ago, which died at $22.1K . Car is in same area of the country, & has 10K more miles than Burt's car.

Are all ball joints created equal?
Well, they look good, but it's the specs they were built to, which will make the difference. Price sounds good though.

Just bought a factory restored 72 240Z!
Thanks for the link Mike! Always wanted to have a copy of this document.

Just bought a factory restored 72 240Z!
If there are so many of us that you find fault with, WHY do you continue to post here? Perhaps you perceive yourself as our "Savior", or we should leave to please you? You are acting very petty, Alan! (notice I didn't call you "that name")

Just bought a factory restored 72 240Z!
I invited you to PM's in order to let the thread continue on topic. Period. You chose not to do so. Instead you continue to perceive a personal attack at every post that doesn't agree with your view. As for names, guess if you must. As for my use of BOLD and quotes, I am pointing out what you wrote. Period. Since you are the only one making a big deal about the word "factory" being an insult and the expectation of an apology, it appears that you expect an apology. You won't get it from me! I wouldn't bother to tell you what I want you to do. But maybe you shouldn't expect everyone to see things your way, whether you are right or wrong. As for the "name", you were not called anything like that in public. If it was done privately, perhaps you would have been better served to take the "high road" and keep it private.

I didn't use the "Kiwi-racist" comment, that can be atributed to someone else, ask him. I indicated that YOUR statement came across as pompous because that is the way it read to myself and some other people. Two separate statements. Perhaps you were not being as clear as you think you were? I understand todays pompousity perfectly. YOU think that an apology is owed to "somebody" because YOU take offense at the term "factory" having been used to describe the "Vintage Z" program that was created, sponsored, and paid for by Nissan: FWIW, no one has called you by "that" name, but yourself.

COuldn't you just unplug the motor currently in your car, and plug in the one you want to test, then operate the switch?

Just bought a factory restored 72 240Z!
I believe that the statement refered to the fact that the cars were "reassembled/restored" in small shops, not on a production line, and that (perhaps) Nissan specified a higher quality control level than they did 30 years ago in a high(er) volume production environment. I don't believe it had anything to do with national pride/arrogance, etc.

Apology? Directed to you, or the people who designed and built the car (who haven't complained about the "Factory" term?) Geez :stupid:

brake master cylinder size
Most "Speed" shops in my area can get them. Russell Speed Bleeders or www.speedbleeder.com
-
why upgrade calipers, rotors and drums???
Probably not something you need to worry about if you don't need maximum braking. Stock calipers are 2 piston units, Toyota calipers are 4 piston units. Larger pad surface area, and more "grab" power. As for wheels, it depends on size of your current wheels, and whether you go with vented rotors or stick w/ stock rotors. AFAIK.

SeaFoam treatment... VIDEO and instructions! Lots of smoke...
Carbon isn't that difficult to remove. Seafoam run through the engine will do it, Water (or coolant) run through the engine (from a blown headgasket) will do it. Water from a spray bottle and a stiff nylon brush will do it on a disassembled engine. Some people worry about using products like Seafoam cause all the grit and crap that gets removed is floating around through your engine for a while, until you drain the oil and the engine stops burning the Seafoam.

Are all ball joints created equal?
I can't provide specifics for the Aussie market, but in the US, all ball joints ARE NOT created equal. Some are servicable (greasable), others are not (no provision for a fitting). Some are high quality, others are not. Nissan units are indeed expensive (in US). Quality aftermarket Ball Joints are marketed under the Moog, and NAPA names, among others, in the US. GMB brand are low quality ones. Most (good and bad) are made in Japan or Korea. Haven't seen any Made in China (yet)

Footrest?
It was the Quote (only) that sounded "a bit" pompous, not the entire post, otherwise I'd have included the entire post in the quote. As I said, since the statements were separated, I took them to be separate. I don't think you need educating, any more than I do. Your first statement answered the question posed by ALT_255 quite well. Your second statement seemed to be a dig at people who were not motivated to continue the discussion of the footrest or acessory page. If you didn't mean it that way OK, but that is the way it came across here (to me). PS If you wish to continue to discuss, please, let's do it in PM, rather than hijack the thread.

Yes, When I had a valve job and timing chain replacement on an L24 engine many years ago, I was able to remove the carbon on the piston tops with water. Put each piston to TDC (smeared grease around the edge of the cylinder), sprayed water onto the piston and scrubbed with a stiff brush while holding a vacuum near to suck up the carbon particles / excess water.

Footrest?
This part of the post does sound self deprecating. (Actually, many of us *myself included* do look at you in that way, mistaken or not) In the original post, this statement was separated from the other statements by a blank line (separate paragraph?) ,therefore I took it to be a separate statement from the others. Also, I said it sounded "a bit" pompous, not "more than a little"...... (I hope I am not picking nits here) so please understand that I did not mean anything more than "a bit". Hopefully not, but to me it sounded like you might have been saying that.

Gas for your Z?
It belongs to someone else. Back before the "great website meltdown" we had a "links" section and many sites including the one kmack refered to were listed in that area. maybe Mike can put that section back up?

27th z!!!
Hey, I have an idea. HLS30-0026 is called "Her Majesty the 26th", right? How about "Marion Berry the 27th" for HLS30-0027? :stupid:

27th z!!!
Different design than the crack pipe I found on my lawn two years ago. Cross street neighbors had a party and next morning I found a glass crack pipe, & crack rocks in one bag, and another bag with marijuana nearby.
