  2. As you can tell I'm still learning I have found the How to modify your Nissan & Datsun OHC Engine to be a good book so far would you say that is more error free than the Z garage site? The Z garage site is quite good despite it's errors as you point out.:classic:
  3. excellent i worked my way through the site and found the downloadable website style catalogue did some conversions pretty expensive compared with AUD but nice stuff.
  4. The shannon's car was very nice I saw it in Melbourne , Lachlan you should have told me you were in Moorabin i live right near there. Oh well the car was nice indeed they also had a bluebird 1800 coupe i think that's right. Both had Watanabe's both nice it was then i realised how big a KPGC10 was when compared with the Z anyway . Wish i could buy it price tag said $25- $30k for a replica.
  5. Are these engine parts easily accessable outside of Japan? I bet there really expensive though .

you mean engine run on right? I have noticed when running a bit rich it can do this but as Bill says ignition timing is another cause. Too far advanced which causes it to run hotter will cause small imperfections in the cylinder head to glow like a glow plug in a diesel and cause it to fire after the engine has stopped. If it does this drop the clutch as the motor can actually run backwards running the oil pump in reverse and well u know what. edit: you could be right about vacumm leak check the intake manifolds. Seals , gaskets aswell.
  7. From the bablefish translations i know he is using the LD28 crank L14 Pistons, custom pulley and flywheel clutch i think is from an RB series but not 100% sure. It's been stroked and bored to 3.1ltr and the engine head is a bit of a mystery to me looks like it could be an early E88 somewhere it said 38cc or 30 odd cc something or other. I had thought P90 but I might be wrong. He said something along the lines of 300HP which is pretty sweet. A friend of mine has built a similar engine running on SU's however. Still great anyone else wanna try reading translated japanese I almost broke my brain :stupid:
  8. I noticed he is using the harmonic balancer from somewhere in America too. His car is very nice I wish i could read Japanese or get a converter but I haven't had luck yet. His attention to detail is great. Looks like he has broken the engine more than once though. :devious: Any further information you could provide would be great ie: engine specks. Gav,

  10. Did sulio get back to you? I'd be interested myself but $300 was gonna be spent elsewhere on my car . Have you got rid of it yet? Let me know the final outcome:cheeky:

  13. http://www.classiczcars.com/photopost/showphoto.php?photo=8787&password=&sort=1&thecat=500 Note the DATSUN badge along the front wing(fender). Only a 240z thing, diamond pattern vinyl interior was a 240z feature as far as I am aware with the big diamonds anyway. The dash and console are 240z items and swapping would not be an easy job as they mount differently. I would put my money on it being a 240z. And if i had to guess I'd say 72 model. PS: Bill which one is the project?

Strange I'm not really sure how you mean you had to keep the rpm's above 4000rpm. Would it stall otherwise? Are you sure it was clutch related? If you mean jerky off the line then it's probably a scored flywheel and will mean you need to re-machine the flywheel and clutch pressure plate. If you go to that extreme you may aswell replace the clutch plate, pilot bearing, throw out bearing, rear main engine seal etc.. However unless your clutch it poorly adjusted either causing it to stick or not grab enough then you may wanna check that. Are you sure you were not getting vapour lock whilst in traffic?

  20. if SJCurtis is watching I know last time I was having a VicZcar meet i was meant to take down the chassis numbers and info but it was so damn cold and raining that i didn't bother + we didn't get the turn out however next time weather permitting i will be a busy boy. I did take a note pad and pen but as i say with the weather i was inclinded
  21. This would give a record of the cars that are registered at the moment but what about the ones in storage for 5 + years ? Surely there are a few of those. If we can get information such as chassis numbers maybe the lucrative (spelling) PS30 might be able to be found. As in proved to have been a registered car.:cheeky:

Yeah usually about 3 months is the time it takes for the fuel to go all the way back to the tank . Kinda like at McDonalds when u suck on the straw and see the coke come up to your mouth and then it slowly goes down only no coke. Fortnight should be fine my garage queen thinks so anyway. But she sometimes gets in a foul mood and cokes up the spark plugs while on the topic of coke hehe. That's why i am gonna be rebuilding the carbs for her soon. I think she will enjoy that.
  23. Good thing you replied i didn't realise it was so much work to remove the shroud none of my Z's have had one unless you count the thermo fan 260z i owned. I think they didn't come on the early 240z's but i might be wrong.
