I'm sorry for my ignorance but when did Nissan add door lights. Late 72-73? Mark, As Dave Try to find a dark colored wire (Black or any variation of Black) Black is your Positive Lead. Look for White or a light color wire. That'll be your Negative lead (natural) Green is Ground. That's how it works in Homes. A switch is only hot-hot, like an Auto Fuse Box. Do your best to find 2 wires. Then Trial and Error. -Brandon

Well, now we know your alt is bad. Make sure you put your batt on charge if you have a charger to keep it hot. You might want to think about going with a GM upgrade. I think it's T120. search around there's a lot of info. Personally I use the stock Nissan replacements. I have no need for any extra power. -Brandon

Probably your alt. It should always be a little over to the right. Yes, pulling the positive lead while the car is running will always work. Make sure you turn on your Headlights with the brights on. If you have dim lights and your engine is still running that's telling you that your alt is weak is probably will do great with a rebuild.

If you have the money and time do them both. If you depend on your Z every day do what you can the best you can. Remember You only have to rebuild them once, then just keep them in good shape. They'll last forever. You can buy original Nissan Rebuild kits off of e-bay. Maybe Nissan still carrie the pats.

Then use the search option here. There's a lot of great knowledgeable kind people here. Then go to Zcar.com and read about turbo Z's. This is the better active Zcar site on the web. Scribe to 240Z.org list (our club list) while your at Zhome scribe to what's know as the Zcar list and sit back watch and learn. Nothing more I cant think of.
