Following that school of thought, would it be a bad idea to pour a little ATF in with one's next oil change to give things a good scrubbing?
  4. Mine were 17mm (if we're talking about the bolts that hold the seatbelt assemblies to the floorpan). 5/72 240z.

Thanks for the heads-up on the exterior hazards, I hadn't read that. I suppose I'll just be doing the underbody and backs of body panels (that I can get to). The car will be stripped to bare metal, and then will be Marine Cleaned/Metal Readied. I have a very, very nice respirator and will be wearing it. I feel like such a nub...thought you all did EVERYTHING with POR-15. Only the parts you can't see??
  6. I searched, but if this has been asked before, please delete this thread. How much POR-15 should I expect to use? I'm getting paid on Friday and am buying all my stripping/POR-15 supplies, as on Saturday the fun begins. I will be doing the entire car (underbody, exterior, maybe even the interior if I get motivated). As I've never used it before, I don't know how much to buy, and I'd rather buy it all at one time. Thanks in advance!
  7. I see them on eBay all the time, with nobody bidding....heh heh.

Your little brother? Ouch! Talk about sibling rivalry...better have handed it to him good, intrafamily assault doesn't stand up in court! On the dashboard note, I think caps look like crap...but a lot better than a cracked dash =)

I've lived in Missouri and Minnesota, and visited Texas often, so I'm no stranger to Tornadoes. I'll take quakes, hurricanes, whatever you can throw at me over a tornado. Nothing else is as terrifying. A hurricane seems brute force untargeted, but a tornado seems to hunt and chase something...*shudder*. They are fascinating to watch, but after you see a house torn to smithereens they become a little more frightening.
  10. This was my phantom battery drain (the latest one, I mean). I had the map light actually disconnected from the ground wire (it broke loose and I haven't reconnected it yet). The switch would be pushed into the "on" position and my battery would drain. Even though the light was not illuminating...does this make ANY sense at all? 'Cause when I touched the ground back to it and made sure the switch was "off," no more battery drain. Silly Z.
  11. Is anyone else afraid to reply after Alfa's disgusting mental picture??
  12. I found my map light drains the battery even though I didn't have it "plugged in," per se. Door switches could be actuating...hmm. Could be the radio, the clock, a lot of things. Any ideas?
  13. What about Ross' setup? At Modernmotorsports.com , I mean. He has an "Xtreme" setup with 13 inch rotors that fits on the front (and I think) and rear. Looks rather insane, I know I'll be doing it once I'm ready to just spend at will. Until then, 4 piston and rear disc conversion.
  14. Way too much information.
  15. I will call Nismo and ask...have a few friends who work there from my days at Sheehy Nissan.

Probably didn't wear them in correctly and warped his rotors. I worked for Nissan and let me tell you, I saw ONE set of 350z brakes get redone under warranty...the driver abused the hell out of it from mile one. Nissan makes decent brakes...just don't buy key value pads. Squeeeeeeeak.
  17. She certainly has a beautiful smile! And what an arse....
  18. My deepest condolances go out to you and your family in these troubling times. I advise to keep the Z and drive it at least occasionally...his wonderful reputation here and helpful nature showed the love he had for the Datsun, and the love he put into the car could remain even after his passing. Again, my deepest sympathies are extended and the Z community will miss him dearly.
  19. I have nothing to add to the thread ( way beyond me at the moment ), but I had to add that I love every thread kats starts. They're always so detailed and insightful. keep em' coming!
  20. Fever? I've got a fever, and the only prescription is more cowbell. In lieu of cowbell, I'll take Z parts! Personally I love foreign women of any kind. Not simply for the accent, I just love a different perspective on the world. That's why I plan to travel extensively...and I suppose why I'm studying Philosophy. Not that I'm going to use the Z to pick up hot foreign babes or anything....
  21. I would say Italian. She would be something exotic to you, something mysterious...She would be exotic and breathtaking, yet refined and fun to be around. Also, she would ride like NOTHING else. Not that I love Italian girls or Z's.

I appreciate the advice, but this is a learning car, not a show car. I bought this with the intent to make myself do everything I could learn how to it, and that's what I intend to do. I will probably hire out the painting process and floorpans/framerails, but the rest I will do myself. Gotta learn somehow.
  23. Try HybridZ.org.
  24. Bought one that ran and drove with relatively little rust and all original engine/trans/interior for $2000. Drove it 300+ miles home without any huge problems...retuned the carbs, fixed a LOT of wiring problems, and now I'm starting on the body work. I've invested maybe $200-$250 in it so far, and am about to invest a couple thousand more in body panels/equipment/paint. Man these cars are fun!

Quick question before I strip the interior: I'm repainting the car its original color (918 Orange) and the interior is still 918, and in rather nice shape. What would be the purpose/benefit of stripping/painting it as well when I strip the exterior? The only reason I could concoct was to find rust, but there are no rust signs in the interior at all (short of the spare tire well, which has been repaired once...i'll saw/spot it out). So, is stripping/repainting the interior really necessary?
