  1. They dont have to be "automotive" relays, they just have to suit your current/volatge requirements. Im not sure about names of stores in the states, but there should be a wealth of electronic component stores. You should have an equivalent to something like this: http://www1.jaycar.com.au/productView.asp?ID=SY4068&CATID=&keywords=relay&SPECIAL=&form=KEYWORD&ProdCodeOnly=&Keyword1=xxxxxxxxxx&Keyword2=xxxxxxxxxx&pageNumber=&priceMin=&priceMax=&SUBCATID= and from my guess the maximum current a headlight will draw will be under 15A@12V, as arent they usually under 160W??
  2. Those numbers for the turbo L28E seem low? I have seen the dyno sheet for a lucky bastard with a lightly worked L28E NA making 124rwkw...I hope mine will do the same but the range of power figures people seem to pull varies so much :stupid:
  3. I also would like ot know if there are any problems with this setup? I was actually having a play with the L series engine calculator last week and found the L24 rods would give me quite nice compression in my L28.
  4. Thanks guys, spot on with the estimations vs. actual asking price
  5. Im looking at buying some trims/fittings/interior parts for my shell, what do you think is fair for these items together or seperate: all the door parts (trims, handles, glass etc) LH and RH rear window with surround lh and rh chrome stip above door on roof lh and rh plastic window surround center console rear hatch
  6. Yeh, volts dont run anywhere, they only thing that could be said to run is current. Voltage is the potential for current to run between two points.
  7. I think its pretty well explained above. The resistance (Ohm's) will govern how much current will flow at a set voltage, since current is determined by both voltage and resistance. V= IxR or I=V/R or R=I/V are all the same expression (Ohms Law) re arranged to find the variable your after. At a set voltage (like a 12V car battery) the current will be determined only by the resitance (as the voltage is fixed). A small resistance would result in a larger current than a large resistance. It is often compared to water in a pipe, and resistances are like bottlenecks/restrictions, limiting flow. One more thing worth noting, maybe not in this application, but the more current flowing through a resistance, the more heat it will produce. This is one reason why you fuse long cables as all wires/cables have some form of inherent low resistance, so if the short circuit to ground, there will be a huge current surge (because of the cables low resistance=high current) creating a lot of heat and possibly fire. Probably hasnt answered your question, but a breif back ground in electronics... In tomorrows lesson we will discuss power: P=IxV or P=I^2 x R :cross-eye
  8. With third party I beleive it is market value or pre agreed value (in which case premiums go up). This is pretty silly seeing as average zeds go for twice "market" value every day.
  9. Thanks but no thanks, I have already been through a big saga of a dodgy guy who sold me 240Z parts swearing they are bolt in replacements to 260Z parts, finding they werent he agreed to refund me but only gave me half and after 2 monthes of dodginess and lies I finally got the rest back this week by finding contact info and speaking to his parents
  10. interesting thanks
  11. Thanks for the offer but I have the 240, 260, 280 haynes already. I was just after/curious to see the 280zx too see if it is in any more detail and has any extras on the tacked on supplement for the 280Z in the haynes I have. :disappoin
  12. Anyone got or know one of these no longer needed. I just wanna skim over the engine and EFI and dont really wanna fork out another $50
  13. It does not run a surge tank and i will not copy the efi setup used exactly, but it is a much better base to me to build upon than a carbies car. It is a P90 head for sure, I had a P90 in the past which i sold too. Until i take the intake off I dont see how I can cheack the block, it should be a F54 but people like the swap L series motors around dont they :classic: So your saying the tail lights wont fit? I will make some measurements tonight or tomorrow. My control arms dont have sway bar mounts either, so I dont see any problem taking them from the 2+2 either?
  14. I wouldnt waste your time, decent batteries dont cost that much new anyhow. I bought a replacement a couple weeks ago for $65AUD I had an odyssey gel cell in my other car for 2 years when it finally died last month, I was never really impressed by it and when it finally died and i returned it, I found out why. For 2 years I had been using a faulty battery that was manufactured with 5 cells instead of 6......so it was doing pretty well considering. Gell cells are suppose to last around 10 years and can withstand being run flat many times.
  15. The rest of the car is nothing special at all, far from it. I bought it on the basis that it was cheaper that buying a P90/F54 motor, gearbox, 280zx EFI system, tail lights, odds and ends on their own. One front guard has a scrape you can make out in the picture. I just got it home so it is quite dark and corel is working over time making the black pictures visible :stupid:
  16. but its a good base, drives quite nicely too:
  17. Its not a work of art:
  18. Im hopeful the 240 and 260z are different, as i know it is a bit of work fitting 240 lights to the 260? I can hope that nissan didnt go to the trouble of makin slightly different near identical parts :stupid:
  19. If you get a turbo L28 engineered with adequate brakes and emission tested, then would it still be "illegal" ?
  20. Has anyone shipped items from the US, im looking at turbo manifolds on EBAY, and possibly another P90 head. Any companies/procedures recommended or rough estimates on price from past experience? Thanks
  21. Thanks for the input :classic:
  22. Do you think there is much difference between letting the car warm up idling for 5 minutes or just driving it babying it at low revs.
  23. I will take some photos for sure, I am already fairly committed to buying it and I have negotiated a good price. For some reason I cant find the block casting, the strange thing is that I have found it on carb'ed cars and I remember finding it on a 280zx, but I dont know how as the inlet manifold completey covers line of site to the exhaust ports/extractors. As a side note, how did all you guys gain experience with cars and mechanics. Was it by throwing yourself in the deep end like I am or did you have some sort of education/teaching. I think I am the only guy in the world that doesnt have uncle john the mechanic
  24. acceleration? running? We roll started the car in the drive way just to prove that it did in fact run due to the dead battery. after idling it for around aminute we had to shut it off before all the oil leaked from the suspect oil pressure sender. Next time I go I will check the oil, and top it up before I drive it. As for the radiator bubbles, Im not sure what you mean.
