  7. my car didnt have the tag on the dash. im assuming the original dash was trash and some replaced it. (good for me, it has no cracks) it also had the door and engine bay tags replaced, but neither matched the firewall vin. dmv told me the only one that counts is the one stamped into the firewall (which matches the title) i have since replaced the door and engine tag and hand-stamped the correct numbers on them

i recently made some 3/8" thick phenolic spacers for weber dcoe 40 carbs. these reduced the temperature of the carb base by about 40 degrees. i have enough material left to make 2 more sets of 6 spacers each. im asking $75 for a set that includes 12 gaskets and shipping to the lower 48. all you will need to do is replace the studs with 2" studs. i prefer a usps money order but can possibly do paypal prices on ebay https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_odkw=weber+carb+spacers&_osacat=6000&_from=R40&_trksid=p2045573.m570.l1313.TR0.TRC0.H0.Xweber+dcoe+carb+spacers.TRS0&_nkw=weber+dcoe+carb+spacers&_sacat=6000 a pic of the spacers installed

  13. in oregon they go by the stamped vin on the firewall since it is permanent and the others can be swapped. Mike at Bonzai didnt have the door tag for a 72 last time i called and said he might not get any more. i ended up getting it from zedd savers. whatever the sheriff says, get it in writing. may save you some pain down the road. my 2 centavos

Joseph, what really pissed me off was that it was my fault that the header is (was) warped, and didnt i check it before installing it? i need to check the quality of a new header? and yes, i did re-torque it around 300 miles. the face of the flange looked like it was surfaced with a 4" hand grinder by a 6 year old. i have since spent close to 4 hours with a welder and a 12" flat file, and have a flat surface now that is leak free. you can see the problem area around 3 & 4. the dark spots are black paint in the low spots more welds around 1 2 5 & 6

so, after 3 orders from amazon i finally got a FLAT sheet of phenolic resin (24" x 24" x 3/8" thick) that i used to make insulators between the carbs and manifold. i had percolation issues after driving the car and shutting it down. anyhow, i measured the temperature of the manifold and the carb where they meet. the manifold was 145 and the carb was 104. it seems that the spacers are working. i may get some more tuning done this week if the weather stays dry, but it will probably have to wait until spring

if you pull the metal bulb socket out of the plastic holder, you will see the ground wire is just pinched in between the plastic and the socket, and the wire and metal socket are probably corroded, making for a bad ground. i ended up soldering the ground wire to the socket. it was a night and day difference

im done with msa. i bought their 6-2-1 exhaust system and the header is leaking between 3 & 4. put a straight edge on the flange, it is warped all to hell. called today and was basically told that its my problem because it has 400 miles on it. i guess the warranty is 200 miles. got so pissed i has to hang up. if i can find someone to resurface the flange it will cost more than the pos is worth exhaust on block old gasket big gap
