  1. Sounds like you could use a FSM. If you don't already have one, go to this link, scroll down and download the 77 Datsun 280Z FSM. If it says 'TnA' try again later. http://carfiche.com/manuals021/cars/

Damp Rid is a calcium chloride (salt) based dessicant.
  3. That one took me a minute since I don't drink.
  4. IIRC w/my limited experience with the couple of Toyotas that family members had, isn't the A40 a RWD trans and the A40D a FWD trans?

Apparently he meant 'poll'. Bill, I thought you were in school?
  6. Larger, clearer pictures will do.
  7. I agree with everything you say except that. I bought a 240Z in 1970 and it always drew a crowd and lots of questions. They weren't 'everywhere'. Not until a couple of years later. They were new and there was nothing else quite like them at the time. The same can't be said for the 350Z. I jumped on the 350Z bashing bandwagon when they first came out but over time I've come to appreciate them as I do other cars that are worth appreciating. They are a diffrent car from a different era and I accept them for what they are once I got over expecting a 'retro 240Z'
  8. I would clean them along with the contacts if they're still good. If not, replace them with new ones. If you replace them with wire you'll lose the fusing action.
  9. I'm 6-2, 210 lbs. and the 350Z seemed a little cramped to me. I guess it's all in how you position the seat. I thought the headroom was about the same as an S30. Three people 6-2, three different views of the headroom. I don't own one and didn't spend that much time driving the 350Z so I'll defer to Mike who actually owns one. But I personally feel more comfortable driving my 78 280Z.
  10. Well, after all, it's still an Altima.
  11. Don't replace a fusible link with wire or you'll be headed for more electrical problems.
  12. Two questions. What does this have to do with Group Z since it's posted under that heading? And since the link you posted is CCC, will this be a Toyota thing or classic imports in general?
  13. Nissan just released an Altima 2dr. Looks like a mini-G35. To me, the 350Z, most of the other Nissans, and most of the Infiniti share that same generic look
  14. I only see pictures of one car in his gallery. Looks to be in good shape and well worth the purchase price.
  15. I believe that a 77 would have an external voltage regulator unless the car has been converted. You should check that also. You can get by with changing whichever one is bad, but most people say that you should change both the alternator and the regulator if either is bad.
  16. I buy most of my hose from ACE Hardware. Since I work there, I get it for cost+10%. The 5/16" 200psi fuel line used in many parts of the the 280Z efi costs me .55/ft. I can get any size even the ones we don't normally stock from one of our distributors for much less than the normal over-the-counter price. With that in mind, I generally choose practicality over originality.

Oh well, that's what Wiki says.

    1. 2002. 2. Nissan Design America in San Diego, Ca. 3. Nissan was unhappy with the original Z Concept. Too underpowered, too retro, backwards, etc.
  19. I'm in agrement with Arne. I've used my 79 810 as a DD for the last four years. Prior to that, it was my 78 280z for 9 years. And they both have more than adequate A/C.
  20. Never mind, I had the wrong info.
  21. 280Z's don't have oxygen sensors. They didn't show up until the ZX in 79.
  22. That little center cap says all that?
  23. It is on top of the motor assembly. Here's a couple of scans:
  24. There is a relay in the passenger footwell. The one for the wipers is the one with two plugs and the contacts facing outwards. It however is most likely not the cause of the problem you describe which is actually two problems. The lack of the middle speed is most likely due to dirty or bad contacts in the switch itself and the parking problem is most likely due to dirty or bad contacts in the auto stop mechanism located in the center under the cowl. Do you have a FSM? Pages 59-67 in the Body Electrical section cover the wiper system and would be a bit lengthy to paraphrase here.
  25. We've done this before and the responses from a couple years ago are pretty interesting. http://www.classiczcars.com/forums/showthread.php?t=6397
