Go down to about 3/4 from the bottom of the page and look for "straight six". It has the different piston sizes and explanations of why and when. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nissan_L_engine here's another good read if you're looking for more HP. http://datsunzgarage.com/engine/
  2. I've never noticed that, thanks.
  3. Mine is the same. Here's some good pictures to see for yourself.

I'd say $1,000 for a good turn key cylinder head if you can find one from an individual. I have that in an E31 with big valves and a .490 cam, to lazy to put it together so far but winter's here and I'll get it done soon. Try Rebello Racing, http://www.rebelloracing.com/index.htm Or a little closer to you Datsun Spirit, https://datsunspirit.com/
  5. We're a little hesitate to click on random links, I know I am. I would open it then copy and paste to your thread. Probably get more replies.
  6. I see what you did there! I don't like white interior for myself, I'd get dirty working on the car then jump in it to run around the block and see how it ran. Finally wised up and bought a seat cover, took a while though. Imagine that...
  7. Go to harbor freight and get a $20 hvlp spray gun. After blasting them put a coat of primer then a coat of matte black. It's way better than rattle cans in my opinion. The one I bought was purple looking gravity fed and I've used it for two years. Just take the head and spray tip off and leave in a jar of thinner. Cheap stuff but if you keep it clean it'll last.
  8. I can post up some pics after the white dye in the morning. It looked like new and didn't scratch of scuff off, good stuff imho.
  9. Me saying least is because it is a change over year. An '83 is a fine car. I don't remember if the '79s had bitchin betty telling you your lights are on.
  10. Agree with zkars 100%. My white had turned to almost butterscotch then redone with SEM. Looked fantastic. Sold the car, hate white interior.
  11. In my opinion that is the least desireable Z car. '79 and an automatic. Maybe you could make $1,000 or $1,500? Good luck if you decide to buy it.
  12. M10s from nissan's titan 8 cylinder pickup is what I used. Also the one use deformed nuts. We had fun with that way back when, they're conical nuts but I said deformed nuts and got some laughs. I read that Rebello does that to his rebuilt heads, larger studs.
  13. I've got similar soot on my 240 but it's not ticking like my 280. I'll try double gaskets on the 280 as I used felpro but the 240 was nissan, much better gasket as soon as I saw it. I was so proud of my first car motor rebulid I went to show off to my Dad. He immediately said you got an exhaust leak and I told him they all have a clickity valve train. Then I rebuilt the 2.4 and used nissan gasket and no clickity but a sooty spot above 4 or 5? I went with the next size manifold studs on my 2.4 all the way acrooss. 2.8 I just did the two ends. Gives me something to do this winter or the next or the next...
  14. Thank you. I found the whole assembly a zcardepot.com and he supports our forum so I'll be buying that one. Thanks again. Cliff
  15. Did you get the threaded J rod from nissan too? I have the square top part number but not the rod or the bottom tray. If you have those p/n and wouldn't mind posting them I'd be greatfull. Cliff
  16. When tried the straight up zx shifter it wouldn't work with the rubber inner boot or the pleather outer boot plus my nuckles almost hit the radio and I couldn't get the seat back far enough and change gears. I'm 6' tall. The 280z curved one was much better for me, like diseazed shows above. My $.02.
  17. Could be as simple as the copper crush washer on the drain plug. I've had that happen on a couple of cars. I was told not to tighten too hard and have done that ever since. No more drips.
  18. You, my friend, are talented. Go to Hollyweird and show off your skills.
  19. I looped growling dogs mp3s and blasted it through my home stereo this year. I had to talk a few trick or treaters into coming to my front porch, their parents laughing.
  20. @moelk I thought that looked similar to a recent post, actually thought I was going crazy.
  21. Yeah, holding the 14mm adjust nut while tighten the lock nut really helps. Here's a picture that shows something that helped me when I first started doing them. Write it all down on a piece of stiff paper, I use beer boxes, and mark them off as you go. They come up almost identical two at a time, so you can do those two and rotate again for two more. Speeds it up some but after trying the hot way I've gone to just setting them cold, lazier in my old age.
  22. Nice AND scary. You have all the attributes needed. Engineering graduate, potential alcoholic, artist, shade-tree mechanic, avid thrift store shopper, ebay seller, Halloween fanatic, ex pothead, and some other stuff.
  23. A quick google search shows youtube videos aplenty. https://youtu.be/TR_5h-unBbE
  24. Yes, thank you for a good laugh. I won't even start on all of my oversights, that should be my username instead of siteunseen.
  25. Wow! What an interesting post. I did a reverse image search and found a lot of rainy race pictures, typhoon maybe. Could be the other 2 cars in some of these? Thanks HS30-H. http://japanesenostalgiccar.com/forum/forum/garages/datsun-nissan-garage/287661-vintage-datsun-fairlady-z-and-240z-racing-and-rally-images
