Excellent! Do as Homebuilt does and wet the floor down some to reduce dust in your paint. Just don't drag the slimey hose through your paint like he did.

Do you have an image of the screw you are trying to source?

That image should be what most of the under dash stuff should look like. Although the AC gets added in near the fresh air stack. IIRC there is only one fan for the whole system. There is a diverter to direct air through the evaporator or the heater core. From the looks of the evaporator housing that is the dealer add on AC. Normally there is a small pod mounted on the center console near the drivers right knee that had a knob and a toggle switch. The know was to select temperature and the toggle switch controlled the AC clutch.

To clean the switch it really has to be off the car. That means all the brakes would needed bleeding after that. You would also have to protect the paint on the frame rails. The brake fluid will remove it fairly quickly. You really can't clean it by just removing the sensor post.

I would use the original dash. Be very careful when you remove it or it won't be crack free anymore. I don't know on the vinyl. If I had to guess I would say it won't help resale. I don't worry to much about that as I don't plan on selling. If it leaves my garage that more than likely means one of my kids got it.

Does the crankshaft bright link end up in the same place every time the engine turns? I was under the impression that the bright links didn't line up on every revolution. I understand getting it to TDC that's easy enough with some measuring tools. Just trying to figure out how you can be sure which link is supposed to go on the cam gear. I never could find the stretch test marks on the head we just installed. I looked and looked and could never find them. I had to rely on the bright links to set it properly. I am not sure the camshaft gear was the OEM one though.

I will muddy the water, even if I shouldn't. I'm a measure twice cut once kind of person. If this were my engine, I would just remove the cover and set the chains. It's not very hard as long as you don't brake a bolt. I had to do this recently when we lost the tension on the chain. I guess I wouldn't want to end up a link or two off. Might not destroy anything but might not make good power either. It seems like the only way to know for sure at that point is to remove the front cover

I apologize for the orientation but it displays properly until I download it This is the switch disassembled. The part at the bottom of this photo has the bullet connector on it. The center copper electrode is isolated from the outside shell with a plastic sleeve Like this You can see the bottom of the sleeve in this picture. If you have continuity from the bullet connector to the hex head on the sensor then there is corrosion bridging over it or there is a crack that has formed in the isolating sleeve. Like cgsheen1 said you will need a new switch if this is the case. This switch is NLA! You would have to find a suitable replacement and it might need cleaning internally. This switch was never supposed to be serviced, so extra caution is required. It is difficult to get it disassembled and reassembled correctly

My paint supplier told me the same thing. He said I have customers with $50k booths that have more trash in their paint than you have. That is always reassuring you have succeeded in doing the best you can with what you have!
