  1. I agree about leaning over but for a different reason. It hurts so bad to straighten up later!!

Another question, did you reuse your old oil sender or did the new engine come with one?
  3. Motorman7 You are in good company out there on the golf course
  4. I assume the Blue plates have value in California due to emissions. I don't believe they would add value for me on the east coast...
  5. Porsche parts are crazy. I was looking at buying a 944s a while back. The convertibles are notorious for leaking above the side windows. The fix is to replace the weatherstrip there. They are close to $900 a side from the dealer. They are not available any where else for reasonable money. So you pay $6-7k for a car that takes almost $2000 to make it not leak? Insanity! Look at Pelican parts some time and look through what some of the parts cost. It's eye opening. 914-6 is a fun car. I rode with a friend from high school once. Her dad was a mechanic and she had been racing for a while. She took that 914-4 up through traffic like it was sitting still! She is probably the best driver I have ever ridden with, and beautiful too.
  6. On a car like that I set my expectations very low. I would really be buying a clean title, hopefully no accidents and very little or no rust. Everything else can easily be fixed. With the internet even hard to find parts can be sourced. A good parts cars would go a long way to making that car right.
  7. I am like Hardway in some ways. I love some of the old land yachts. I would like to have a 69 Cadillac convertible and I have a project 66 Thunderbird in the back yard, I can't image keeping fuel in it at 5-6 mpg. I have also always loved the Countach, 308 Ferrari's, 246 Dinos, mid 80's Porsches, the Pantera is near the top of the list. I have ruled out pretty much all of these for various reasons which is why I love my Z cars. The older Ferraris are too small for me, as I am 6'5". The other problem many of these share is where are you gonna drive them? You can't park them anywhere because some jealous soul will just drag their keys down the paint out of spite. I have a good friend that has a 308 and he almost never drives it. The other exotic problem is parts and maintenance. The timing belt replacement on a 308 is a multi thousand dollar job. The parts for the Countach are just as bad. The Pantera is pretty good motor wise because it's a Ford but the transaxle is expensive. The Porsche is the most doable because it is not so rare as to be unuseable but a clutch kit is something like $1000. That just seems silly when you look at what you can buy a good 240Z clutch for. I almost bought a Pantera 4-5 years ago. It was about $26k and was in decent shape. It would have been money well spent as they have gotten expensive since then. C'est la vie. I still love my use to be cheap Z's
  8. That seems like a lot of money but maybe I'm wrong.
  9. What about modifying the cross member? That might be easier
  10. It looks like the frame rails rusted out at the top seam. That is a hard repair unless you have good metal skills.

Had to look this up: These days, it’s common to spot cars done up in some JDM fashion sporting one of these plastic 'hang rings' on their rear bumpers. In case you didn't know what the trend is all about, here’s a little history lesson on where it all originated from. The 'hang ring', otherwise known as a 'Tsurikawa' as it’s called in Japan, is basically a hand strap people are supposed to hold on to when riding the bus or train standing up. If you regularly take public transport, then you should know this 'hang ring' is just like the ones found in any other country that has a mass transit system. Pretty boring stuff, right? What makes it cool, however, was that Tsurikawas became a sign of rebellion. Members of the Bosozoku (Japan's anti-establishment street gangs) would steal Tsurikawas and blatantly hang them off their car's rear bumpers; ideally dragging them on the ground until they disintegrate. This obviously was illegal and by flaunting one in public on your car was a subtle way of giving the middle finger to society. Since then, hardcore Japanese car enthusiasts have taken to rocking a Tsurikawa as an expression of the freedom it represents. It became such as trend that you can actually buy different Tsurikawa styles from a car accessory shop these days. But if you want to be true to the spirit, a real Tsurikawa can't be bought and has to be 'picked'. I'll leave it up to your creativity to source one here.
  12. "My new car looks like a shoe" I was hoping for a Z3 Coupe "Clown shoe". Oh well. The Prius' we rebuild get better than 50 mph. I got about that running 80+ to Charlotte and back in one.
  13. I would buy that in a heartbeat if I didn't already have 2 projects going and one in the wings. $4,000 already and 5 days to go, it will bring more than $4,500. I probably wouldn't give that but I believe I will have to adjust my expectations if I ever buy a new project. I would love to have a 69' car. Good year lots of great things that year, Corvette, Camaro, me...
  14. I don't know "Captain Oblivious" could be cool...
  15. Well my first question is, Why did you start a new thread?????!! This is really a continuation of your other thread where you posted about the vacuum advance problem. These threads are really more helpful if kept together, so when someone comes along with the same problem they can find the answer in ONE place. As for opinions, you seem to be a very independently minded young person. A number of persons have made suggestions. Many of which are still waiting for responses. You will get more help if you follow up on peoples suggestions or the feedback will stop.... As for the dizzy, if I could install it with points and make it run, that is what I would do before you disassemble a perfectly good dizzy. If the car runs good with the points then you could leave the points in or try to make the Pertronix work again by moving the vacuum advance. That would eliminate the Pertronix and the entire dizzy as being the source of you problem.
  16. Thanks Jim
  17. I don't know if we should start a new thread or not. I haven't been able to find a real schedule for Zcon. On the website some events are mentioned but it doesn't tell you when. Can we work up some king of real schedule for when things are going on? I know there are some things that are going on simultaneously but I can't even get a feel for where I would like to be or when.
  18. That's really not so bad
  19. H-M How much do those cost? I looked around a little bit but couldn't find them for sale...
  20. The long gray fuse looking things are circuit breakers. They trip when overloaded and reset when cool. I used one on my Suburban when we couldn't find a short. When it starts tripping a lot it becomes easier to find.
  21. Blue, I don't know about cheese curds...
  22. Just booked the Staybridge, Fri & Sat night
  23. That's my idea of a good Fathers day too. Hope it works out that way for you.
