Man I wish I had the space for a blast cabinet... I would use it all the time. A few more years until the kiddo is out of school and I'll be looking for a place with a shop.

Other than a throttle, key, choke, and a gauge to make sure you have oil pressure... should be fine.

Looks like MSA also has the valve... double check to make sure this is the right one... I am not sure what car you've got. https://www.thezstore.com/product/2576/factory-heater-control-valve-79-83-280zx-with-auto-ac MSA also gives discounts to members, just need to provide them with your membership ID.

Yeah that's probably one of the worst designs for a valve. I've had plenty of curse words during my time working on that thing. Do it right or you'll be back under the dash again later.

I've tried rebuilding several cables like this, mostly the choke. Anything I would do to it would eventually fail. TBH, I'm not sure anyone here has taken on this kind of project.

Security. Usernames are published in each post. But email addresses are not. So, by moving to an email login this eliminates 50% of the information that hackers can use to try to get in. (other 50% is the password)

Yeah, good times! Things sure have changed in technology a lot since then. Now I'm trying to catch up.. we'll see how it goes with upgrades over the winter.
