I Just got ANOTHER 240Z, she's gonna kill me!!
That looks great Dave, Awesome find!! and a fantastic job fixing it up. I've run the 90/100's before and got a lot of high beam flashes even on the low beams, I went to 55/100's and have the best of both world Std low beam and killer high beams. Your the electrical guy so it's up to you, just MHO. Are you going to trim the front bumper like your other Z? Dave

#998? For Sale in NY
There is a digit missing from the vin #. It looks to me to be a late 71. I am no expert though. But the bumper and emissions are of a later year the 00998 would have. It's a beater either way. $250 is even high for me.

Golden Gardens, Seattle, 2010?
This was my first GG nissan event. I went to hopefully meet some CZCC menbers and did meet Dave (Zs-ondabrain) and although I didn't get to talk to him I saw Jim (a7dz), who has done a fine job restoring his Z. I too did not care so much for the tuner crowd. there was a time when I was more into engine swaps and hybrids but not so much anymore. I got there late 10:30 and was lucky to park in the main lot across from Dave. we walked all the lots and saw some cool cars. The 370's were pretty cool as were the GTR's not too many vintage cars. a presidents nissan was interesting. I'm with Dave for a local vintage Datsun show or gathering. Perhaps in the future. The Canby meet sounds more promising for what I would like to see, So I am planning on that one. So here are some pics of the Z's that I saw there excluding my own. time to wash the car!!!

Mustache bar bushing shells
I had the same issue with mine, I ended up grinding off the inner lip so it would be even with the rest of the shell. I then rounded the now sharp edge so as not to cut into the new ES bushing. Worked like a charm. Sorry I was too involved to take any pics at the time but everything looks good. Not a lot of help in the ES instructions. common sense, and simple ingenuity prevailed.

How do you modify your S30?
My 70 had been modified by the PO in the same style as original but not genuine Datsun. My thoughts are that the majority of the car should look period, although some modern upgrades are acceptable. It should look like an old Z. If the car was more original when I purchased it, I would lean more toward all original. My mods have mostly been in the undercarriage struts, bushings, brakes and an RT mount. mostly to make it handle and run safely. I also installed Dave's electrical upgrades as the wiring is a bit weak in the lighting department. The PO had put headers and K&N's and a Ger Brock cam he had cut the springs and over lowered the car, something I redid. He also had 4:11 gears in it and a 4 speed from an automatic swap I think. The warranty booklet did not have either box checked. The 4 speed and smaller tires made for some fast reving. I put 3:54's in for now. I enjoy it as it is and thats what counts the most. IMHO TZ

What are these wheels?
They look the same as the ones I have on my Z My PO also said they were a factory option. I can't quite see the center caps on the ones you are asking about. Mine have a P/S for "Per Spec" or performance specialties. I have seen them in a Z after-market catalog I have from the early 70's Nice looking 70 too.

My dash cracked!!!
Truly a bummer Bonzi Lon. Carl, I agree with the thermal changes, including the heater/defroster being run in cold temps and/or A/C being run in summer(for those that have A/C). jmark, I also use 303, great stuff. TZ

How do I test a 280 clock?
I tested a 240 clock in the same manner and did hear a ticking noise if listening closely. blue to 12v black to gnd. I left it for 10 min. and the clock advanced 10 min. I would say your clock is non functional. There were some threads on here about replacing the internals with a more modern component. TZ

What kinda of Z-car guy are you?
I feel I fall between 1 and 2. I really like the stock look, but will make upgrade with newer components when things were out. This car had some modifications when I bought it. but retained the nostalgic look. After getting it home I found some rubber under the car had deteriorated. I feel if you can make an improvement to the stock 70.s technology without changing the original look I feel it is worthwhile. A semi sleeper if you will. For example I replaced the worn bushings, struts and springs, brakes and some electrical wiring (Dave's) There is a spoiler on the front that was on it, and thats fine but I would not do any extra body work. I like the way it looks. Not a full on racer and definitely not a trailer queen, something in between!!

Greetings, from me and my Z
I intend like to attend a Z show or gathering / drive next summer. When is the Canby show? I have looked at your club as well as the one in Seattle. both are 100 miles away and have meetings mid week that would be impossible to attend as I do have to work (to pay for my Zaholism)

Rescuing parts from the crusher
Funny,,,, when I got my Z home and started looking through it I found it needed some things. I called the local yard not expecting them to have a Z, they said they had a 72 (HLS30-60414 R.I.P.) So I went and found a nice lime green all stock car with a smashed in tail. I bought the trim parts I was after. but couldn't stop thinking about the perfect shape dash in the car. I asked about the crushing and was told once they have made enough profit it gets crushed. A week later I went and got the dash $100 for the complete set up gauges, radio, glove box, heater controls. the works. I know it is different than my 70 but how could I pass it up. As it turns out the clock still works!!! Next time I was back there someone else had found it and many body parts were gone. I was again considering going back and picking up some other spare parts just because. TZ

Greetings, from me and my Z
Thanks Adam I had looked at a bunch of cars that people said were "clean" or "nice" and found a bunch of buckets. When the guy opened his garage for this one I knew I had found my ride. A lot of it is what I had in mind to do already. I have seen these type of American Slots a lot and these are usually oxidized, which takes all the elbow grease to bring them back. The old owner had them polished and the slots blacked out, to give them a great look. Now all I have to do is keep up on the polish. Thank you Walter

Greetings, from me and my Z
Thanks for the info on these. The car is originally from Portland the story sounds right. I have see this type of wheel on other Z's but never with the center cap. I agree they are not up to their original snuff, and at this point I am not racing around too much, puttering as you say. Thanks for the input.
