  1. I think I can. I had Thanksgiving dinner with a guy I have a manufacturing partnership with and we talked about exactly that. Somebody send me their fugly shift knob and we will reproduce them.
  2. They list a carbon fiber model. Go with that if you want to spend that kind of money...
  3. A friend dug this up off the internet somewhere. Anyone here own it?
  4. Well, I'm doing it. I found a guy in England who is restoring a Maserati 3500 which uses a pair of 42DCOE 8, which I have three of. We agreed on a price that will give him three of his original carburetors and will get me three brand new 45DCOE 152's. So my tuning will begin anew. I would imagine, I can just transfer over the jetting I have and if my chokes (32mm) are the same, I should be running pretty close to the same.
  5. Actually, it's the cars at the back of these organized drives that 'kick-up-their-heels' so to speak. I have led a number of club drives and because the cars at the back get spaced out from the group and sometimes caught behind lights, these are the ones that are moving along at a vigorous pace.
  6. I'm like you. I have the trailer, packed with stuff. Your experience reminds me that the harder you drive these little cars, the more likely you are to expose any weakness. Once those weaknesses are exposed and repaired, the less likely they are to break. Then, all you need is window cleaner, tires and brake pads. I'm glad you had fun...

He'd still help you. Contact him. Tell him I said to hook you up...
  8. I couldn't really tell you how they get separated from their original source. I am an admin on a board with a thread that is just random (mostly car) pictures. It would have to be the most popular thread on the board as it is over 2000 pages long at 25 posts per page. Every once in a while, someone posts something Datsun. That is where most of these come from. This particular picture was posted by a guy I know personally from the Bay Area in California. He has very eclectic taste in cars but every once in a while, a Datsun pops up. I will have to ask him where they come from...
  9. Another right-hand-drive racer...
  10. I have done a number of TSD Rally events over the years and never done well... But I always enjoyed the drive. Looks like you're doing the same.
  11. Les at Classic Datsun Motorsports has another manufacturer. Check with him as well...
  12. Right hand drive. Anyone recognize the plates? Beautiful car.
  13. Or, in my case, the E31, big-valved and ported and polished by BC Gerolomy. It works fine... Way fine.
  14. Thanks Les! I always hope when I post these random vintage pictures that I find on the web that someone will know something about the day, the event, or the car, or driver... Please, post your pictures!

Hmmm... I have a 280 compressor and block mount in my storage garage. Nice project for the winter... Nah! I don't need it.
  16. I doubt it. I think this was a 'solution' to the flat-top '73 carbs. And not a very good solution...
  17. It is part of a kit that was reproduced originally for Nissan's Z-Store Project. It is what I have in my car and I found it essentially identical to the original stuff. FYI though, you can probably by the entire kit from MSA, Classic Datsun Motorsports, etc. for not a lot more than I have seen the individual pieces selling for.

Check out my brake restoration thread in the how-to threads...
  19. Considering this is the first I've seen of it, and I had my first Z in 1980, I'd say the girl got more business than they did. Just my personal opinion but the only kit that came close to being sort of interesting to me was the Ferrari one.
  20. A buddy of mine, who is on here by the way. has these which he sent home with me to sell for him. 0 offset, Enkei 15X7 that look very BBS like. Very easy restoration would make them great street wheels...
  21. All flat tappet engines apparently need zinc additive ZDDP. A few of the synth oil alternatives have this in appropriate quantity. Royal Purple being one. In the dinosaur oil category, Brad Penn, which is named for Bradford Pennsylvania and used to be the Castrol GT green oil before that plant was shut down has the appropriate ZDDP content. Now having said this, I think the most important time for this ZDDP additive is when the engine is breaking in the cam. This happens in the first 20 minutes at 2000 RPM. I have seen Porsche motors eat their own cams when not appropriately broken in, this in the first 1000 miles. Changing oil every 3000 miles is very old-school and not necessary. Oil has changed. It is better and worse. The old stories about synth causing leaks while true, have been eliminated by changing the formulation of the synth oil. The ZDDP was taken out of most oils to increase the life of catalytic converters. I change my oil twice a year. This frequency increases when I do track days with one or the other cars but I would guess miles to be about 750 - 1000 between changes. I do this only because oil that sits in low mileage cars can form acids that cause damage. I am allowed with my 'Historic Plates' and by my classic car insurance to drive 2500 miles a year each. I'm doing maybe half with each the 914 and the Z. A friend who runs a performance shop and does routine maintenance on BMW, Audi, Porsche and Ferrari and such, uses 1000 miles per quart capacity with modern oils. He uses and recommends a Swepco Synth blend I think...
