  1. Just as a point of interest, I believe that the OK sticker was put on by the dealership. I guess not all dealerships put these on new cars. When I purchased my car in 71 from the dealer, the OK sticker was not on affixed to the quarter window.
  2. While we're talking about windshields, does anyone know what years 240z cars came with clear windshields, and which years they came with the tint? I found a NOS windshield for big $$$$ with the tint and would like to know if it originally came on my late series 1 car. The quarter windows seem to have a very light greenish tint but it is really difficult to tell. thanks for any info. Dan

The door threshold has a silver aluminum sill plate that sits outside of the welting. There is, also, a black vinyl covered scuff plate that fastens to the inside rocker area and has a tunnel shaped outside edge that covers the door welting. hope this helps. These scuff plates are sold quite often on ebay.

swamphog, I believe that there were at least two styles of evaporator cores and housings on the dealer installed ac systems. I imagine each style had different locations for holes in the firewall for there particular line locations. I am assuming the template you ask about is for the location of the lines as they pass through the firewall. I don't have such a template, but mention this only so that you may be aware of possible differences, depending on which evaporator you have. Good luck and let us know if you sort this out.
  5. Gee, I didn't know that these were difficult to come by. I use these from my Nissan parts supplier for my show car, and he seems to have these readily available. I believe that Banzai Motorworks also sells these from there online catalogue. Guess I had better stock up.

[ Series I Datsun 240-Z's sold in the USA and Canada were produced between Oct. 1969 and Jan. 1971. Regular Production cars - HLS30-00016 though HLS30 020390 have been recorded so far. Hi Carl, You might want to update ( as if you don't have enough on your mind without critiques from the cheap seats) the series 1 cars to include mine, IZCC#12324. I am listed on your web site as an original owner of HLS30-20419, a 1/71 series 1 car. Thanks, Carl. Dan
  7. Hey Chris, It appears to be the same vinyl pattern, just oriented differently when cutt and sewn together. Do you think that this orientation was intentional when fabricated, or, just random use of the material when pieces were cutt? Did 26th and 27th have any vinyl on these housings? This may be a little over the top when considering correctness for a total restoration. I'd be interested in your findings to come, and opinion as to correctness.

The pan you mention on ebay is for a 280Z. Note the drain hole in the front corner. It is, also, a deeper pan so as to make room for the taller 280Z radiator.
  9. Arne, Thanks for the master vac decal pics. This confirms the correct format for all cars inclusive between your 10/70 and 4/71. I am probably pressing my luck, but can you make out the numbers stamped into the spaces on these decals. I can't quite make them out. You've been a big help. Dan
  10. Arne, Thanks for the follow-up info from 12746. These screw and washer fasteners, I believe we can all agree with the research provided in these postings, were on a good number of series 1 cars. The exact number, if not inclusive to all, is purely hypothetical at this point. I was fortunate enough to acquire two of these screws and clear washers in NOS condition on ebay, but those are reserved for the quarter window interior plastic trim. Finding more for the doors may be an imposibility. Arne, does your HLS30-12746 have the original master vac decal in place? If so, I would really like to see a picture of it. Dan HLS30-20419
  11. I have a request. If someone has a 69 or 70 series 1 240z that has a master vac decal on it, I would really appreciate it if you could post a picture of that decal, or PM me a picture of it. There were two or three iterations of this decal on 240z cars, and I am trying to sort out the correct decal format for the correct years. I will, also, need the vin # and build date of your car. It would also be great if I could get a good picture of some 72 and 73 decals with vin# and build date as well. I am trying to be as correct as possible with these decals and this would help a lot. The decal is well on its way to completion and, when complete, I will post pictures for your approval. Thanks for the help and interest. Dan Original Owner hls30-20419
  12. Go to www.zhome.com/Concourz/MODEL/Monroney.htm for pictures of window stickers. Dan
  13. z137, Could you take a good close-up picture of the red decal on your master vac and send it to me? I would really appreciate it. My e-mail is: dts737@yahoo.com Thanks. I am currently reproducing these decals and am trying to establish a history on there differences. Dan
  14. Victor, Thanks for posting the new pic. I am still doing research on which decal was for which vin#. Was this decal, above, just for the series 11 cars up through 73? Any info you may in your files would be a big help. My decal for the early, 69 - 71 series 1 cars is nearing completion. Hoping for a good color match and looking for the best way to emboss the numbers at this point. Once again, if anyone here would like to tell me what the numbers in the blank spaces on your decal are, along with the vin # of your car, it would be a great help to me in making this decal as accurate as possible for those interested in having one. Thanks, and I'll post the finished product as soon as it becomes available. Dan
  15. Jim, I will try to show a picture of the grommet you are looking for. I have limited computer skills. Go to www.geocities.jp/datsunz903 Then scroll down to "Keep Working". There you will find a picture you need. Let me know if you find it OK. Dan
  16. Well, I am making progress in reproducing this master vac decal. I just took a look at a first draft of the decal and have submitted minor changes. Victor, in post # 5, above, was kind enought to post two pictures. The larger bottom picture is the decal that I am doing. The upper, smaller picture, is of a decal which has a different format. It would be very helpful if all who are interested in one of these decals, and even those who are not, give me some information on the decal if one is presently on your car. In order to make these decals as authentic as possible, I would like to know what numbers, both black print and embossed are on your decals in the three spaces provided, along with the vin # of your car. This will help me associate the correct numbering with the vintage of the car. Also, tell me which of the two decals pictured in Victors post # 5 above is on your car. If you could take the time to do this, it would be a great help. I had assumed that there was only one format for this decal, but if Victor is correct, the format may have changed in late '71 and on for series 2 cars. You can either post that information here, or PM me. Thanks, and I'll keep updating here with the progress. Dan
  17. Will, You have probably already done this, but there are a number of dealers who are getting, what I would term impossible parts, from suppliers in Japan. If found, it probably would be pricy, but something to check. One is a guy named Norm Murphy: zeddsaver@hotmail.com Dan
  18. RickX, You have a short-hand way of expressing yourself, which, I believe, some of us are trying to decipher, and may have caused a little frustration for others in the attempt. I am not trying to be critical, and it is good to hear your perspective, and thought on your experiences with the ebay process. I am really enjoying this discussion which lends itself to kind of a free hand expression to thoughts we all have, and gives greater creditabililty and affirmation to our choice of cars. We would all like to believe, and are infatuated with the thought, that our car of choice has value and collectability yet to be achieved. This ground breaking, wonderful, little sport coupe deserves the broader attention of serious collectors, and from some things mentioned in this discussion, I believe that serious attention is not far away. If, and this has been considered by some, a Concours event were to be created, with well defined criteria for judging, the original Datsun 240Z would then be elevated to, and capture the attention of the serious collector world. This would provide a yard stick, similarly used by Corvette collectors, by which to more easily define truly great originals, or restorations. I know that I am rambling, but just had to voice an opinion from one who has enjoyed the same 240Z for almost 36 years.

  21. Hey Marty, Look on your CD in electrical section, page 57-4, item # 68, part # 27195-E4400. Does that look like the part you are looking for? Section 57 doesn"t show up in the elect. index. Just scroll down. Hope this helps. Dan
  22. Pm means private message. Just click on gnosez and a menu will show up. Click on Private Message and an email format will come up. I'm still trying to learn how to accomplish things at this site, myself. Dan
  23. I've been watching this auction, also. I have a NOS set, three of whch are still sealed in brown Nissan paper and plastic and have yet to see the light of day for the last 35 years. I am fantisizing what these would fetch, if I were to sell them, which I won't. As values continue to rise on these rare parts, so goes the value of our preciously cared for cars. Ya gotta love it. Dan
  24. Although I did not know Carl personally, I think we can all agree that we knew, well, what a fine, sincere, person he was through his contributions to this site. When Carl stopped contributing to this forum on a regular basis, many expressed concerns for his well being, and tributes to what he has meant to this club. I am certain that Carl read our concerns and expressions of gratitude for his many insightful contributions, and knew how much he was appreciated and respected. Thanks, Carl, and Peace Be With You, Always.

Rick, I, too, am really feeling badly for you. I can only imagine how I would feel if I had to sell my early 1/71 car. This is my two cents. Don't know your situation, but if it is workable, why not consider taking the car to Scottsdale next January to Barrett Jackson auction. In the mean time, enjoy it a little while longer by putting it back to as stock as possible, and contact the auction company to get there input. You may get a surprising price in this environment. It would also set a time certain for getting rid of the car, and give you the time in which your fortunes may take a turn for the better, which may not necessitate to the sale of your car. New opportunities have a way of presenting themselves when least expected. Take your time. Dan
