As with most Zs, mine has been a never ending work in progress........ for the last 45 years. When I got the Hyundai lenses, my plan was to use them. I have since picked up a set of Datsun markers with clear lenses and colored bulbs that I'll probably eventually use after new paint. Sorry for the picture and partial install quality, but it's a hot day in the desert and I didn't spend as much time getting the perfect shot as I could have a couple months ago. Dennis

Hyundai Exel side markers. They have the same wire connectors at the Z, so plug in easily. The mounting screw holes are about 1/8 inch farther apart than the Z holes, so one new hole needs to be drilled. They fit flat on the fender and only protrude the thickness of the lens - about 1/4 inch. I'm currently away from home but will take pictures when I get back. Dennis

It's nice to have markers. If you don't like the protruding Datsun stock markers, you can use front and rear side marker lights from a '90s vintage Hyundai which fit nicely in the existing space and are fairly flush to the body panels. Dennis

When you see lots of visible rust coming through the paint, beware of what you don't see. As others have said, not a $14K car. For that money, you could do better. Dennis

Thanks for sharing that information. My pleasure. The gas tank in the Avanti sits between the trunk and the back of the back seat and above the differential with the filler on the "C" pillar. In a rear ender, the tank won't get pushed into the differential and punctured as with the infamous flaming Pinto. As we like to say about our Avantis, they were ahead of their time for 1963 - even came with seatbelts and a built in roll bar for crash protection. Dennis

For the sake of Pinto history accuracy, the fuel filler was on the left rear fender. The problem with the fires in accidents had to do with lack of protective structure around the gas tank and tank location that allowed it to burst on rear impact. Court cases referenced the 1963 Studebaker Avanti as an example of the correct way to place and protect the tank for cars of that era to avoid external combustion. Dennis
