1978 280Z FACTORY convertible!! Looking for some info
Here are a couple links. Scroll through the first to see more on the Griffith where it mentions a lighted opening rear trunk and where the chassis strengthening is located. The second link is an earlier discussion on this forum. http://datsunforum.com/the-datsun-z-as-a-roadster-a-background-and-history/

240 hood badge- A suggestion
Nice job with your solution. Another way to do it is to spray the entire emblem and then wipe a pad lightly soaked with paint thinner across the high spots before the paint dries - that's a process I've used in restoring lettering and emblems on vintage metal dealer style license plate frames.

Random Misfire while cruising
The Colortune will give you a good visual check on what's happening during combustion. When I used to adjust the carbs, I would follow the steps in the shop manual and then check with the Colortune for any final adjustment. No idea if many people still use a Colortune.

Fiberglass glove box
If I remember correctly, and there's no guarantee that happens consistently, several years ago someone did record all the measurements and then sent them to a forum member who planned to reproduce inserts to offer to the group. Measurements or a drawing were never shared on the forum and there was a bit of discussion about posting them on the forum when a member was going to the effort and expense of recreating inserts for sale. I also need a new glove box insert for my Z.

New job for me!
Cliff, you underestimate yourself. Your personality (humor) and the Z knowledge you've shared over the years are a couple of the things that keep me logging into this forum. Sounds like you've found your comfort zone.

DIY FOAM Build
It looks so easy. Just cut and glue. What could go wrong?

Z's on BAT and other places collection
Not a very convincing response from the seller regarding the Photoshopped side view. It's like the old joke about going to the doctor and he says, "You need an operation that will cost $25,000. But, for $200 I can retouch your X-rays." If BaT recommended the photographer as the seller said, he should be removed from the list and the seller should get a refund because of the doubt raised by fake photos in an auction.

Stolen Z?
I'd be interested in hearing from anyone who has had a Z stolen. While probably a few of us have had a car stolen (I've had two - a Toyota Camry and a Porsche 914), hearing the details of a stolen Z could be informative.

New job for me!
Way to go Cliff! Thanks for sharing the cathartic moment. We could all use one once in a while. 😎

280z parts source
Sorry that the Google search didn't work as well for you as it did for me. Good luck with the project!

280z parts source
Have you tried doing a Google search for the parts you need - like "Datsun 280Z brake booster gaskets"? That search will bring up quite a few sources.

Nice find. That plug is an elusive piece. I used to run fog lights on mine, but above and slightly behind the bumper. Too easy to break no matter where mounted.

My 1st 240z
Very nice interior! I wish my '71 was that clean and tidy. Does the red button on the center console activate the fog lights?

Or maybe open that bar somewhere high in the mountains on the edge of a precipice overlooking a beautiful valley and call it....wait for it...Cliff's. BTW, welcome to the group, Bluez. Nice looking green Z. How's the interior?

Based solely on his astute observation earlier in this topic which parsed screen name and accompanying photo, a promotion to Major Obvious may be appropriate. 😎

COVID-19
After almost 2,000 entries on this topic, and while I haven't read them all, I don't recall seeing any stating anything like, "How could I have been so wrong. Thanks (insert screen name here) for opening my eyes to the truth about COVID." I doubt that many, if any, minds have been changed. I have however seen temper flares, false sense of superiority, and a little bullying. I'm in favor of ending this topic and maybe moving on to politics, religion, and global warming discussions if we really need diversions from the only reason everyone signed on to this forum - The Z.

COVID-19
My son's company announced today that they're extending their "work from home" program until January 10, 2022 at which time they'll reevaluate to determine a possible date to return to the office. He was hired in March 2020 just as Google was deciding everyone would work remotely. He's never met his boss or coworkers in person and only gone to the office once about a month ago just to see what it was like. Interestingly, Google offers employees gifts, classes, days off, and other incentives to keep employees from going stir crazy.

What spline lug lock is this??
Sixty hour work week covering the hours the Post Office is typically open and one day off? If his day off is Sunday, it may be a while before you get the lug key.

My two swiss S30Z Fairlady Restoration build thread
My April 1971 240Z had only the 2 non folding wheel chocks, jack, jack handle pieces, lug wrench, and stow bag when I bought it as a new car. It also came with a small Nissan labeled can of matching paint in the storage bins. It did not include open end wrenches or spare lug nuts. Does the parts book list wheel change kit contents and spares that were included on delivery?

Help find long lost 240z
Looks like you're getting closer to searching for a replacement "in the style of" your dad's original rather than finding the actual car. The good news is that you could find a similar Z, tell your dad it's his original, and based on the lack of old pictures and a VIN no one could prove you wrong. All good!

Z Proto: The next z reveal
I paid over sticker price in 1971 when I bought my Z to avoid a several month waiting list. Seemed like a good idea at the time. The $4,200 I spent in 1971 is equal to $28,311, give or take, in 2021. I had been living out of the country for a year and a half, the $4.200 represented well over six months of my military pay, and I needed a car. I could not have guessed that I'd still be driving the car 50 years later. Not sure if the new Z will stir the soul like the original, but if I was 24 I'd give it a try. Life's an adventure, enjoy the ride!

Z Proto: The next z reveal
If I was 24 again, I'd be standing in line, checkbook in hand. However, at my current age, I think it would be easier to get out of Afghanistan than it would be to get out of the driver's seat of the new Z. I'll stick with my '71. 😎

Bumper rubber issue
Success! No rear bumper over riders?

Bumper rubber issue
A project dear to my heart as I'm doing the same with my '71. No adhesive required. I think if you loosen nuts on the mounting studs on the rubber pieces just a bit, you'll find that there is a little "slop" in how the studs fit through the mounting holes in the bumpers and over riders. That gives wiggle room to adjust the fit and remove the gap between trim and bumper before tightening the nuts on the studs. My front bumper was easy and the rear is a nightmare. The mounting studs on the trim are rusted and I have to use a hacksaw between the trim and bumper face to cut the mounting studs.
