Damn shame....
I wonder what the reserve is? Did everyone notice the rally clock? A lot of work and money to get that car back on the road, which is a shame because there wouldn't be too many RHD Fairlady Z's in the US would there?

Hose clamps
Kats you are a perfectionist. I love to see someone who lines up all the heads of their screws. A small detail to some people but what a difference it makes.

Higher Compression, Harder the Start?
Isn't the starter on the auto's a little higher in torque value than the manual? I know they are different but I can't remember what exactly.

Cam, Where did the engine come from, have you seen it running, has it been rebuilt. More information on the engine is required before much help can be given.

What does water temp switch do?
On an Aus delivered 77 260 carbied car the water temp switch is actually part of the fuel system. Under the drivers seat there are two relays, water temp relay and alternator relay. These two relays are connected in series and activate the fuel bypass solenoid, next to elec fuel pump. The water temp relay cuts off current to the bypass solenoid when the coolant temp is below 35 deg C it gets the reading from the temp switch. The alternator relay cuts off current to the bypass solenoid when engine speed is above 400 rpm. Because these relays are connected in series with the bypass solenoid, the solenoid will only operate when the engine is operating above 35 deg C and running below 400 rpm. I would think it does a similar job on the 280 but i'm not 100% sure.

Australian for Wanker?
Very funny, Iwork with a bloke that answers the phone by saying God's gift here. He's that far up himself the other day he nearly turned himself inside out.

Cold Air Induction
I've seen this happen when running uninstalled air craft engines. It happens a lot quicker and the air does get noticeably thinner.

Booster diagnostics
With the engine off, deplete all the vacuum from the booster by pumping the brake pedal. Start the engine with your foot on the brake pedal and if everything is working your brake pedal should move towards the floor.

Lead footed B's.
Having lived in the Northern Territory where there is no open road speed limit, it was very rare to get me over 140kph in the car anyway. On the bike on the way to work however it was a different story. A group of us tempory Australians would meet up just outside town (Katherine) and race to work at Tindal, often hitting speeds of 250+ kph. I haven't ridden a bike since the day my son was born as per my wifes recomendation.

R34 Seats into Z
Yes it is easier for us to get these seats down here but they don't come up very often. There's a set on Aus ebay for $800 ($624US) and he'll ship internationally. It would be nice to stay with Nissan seats rather than going to aftermarket seats. I'm weighing up the cost of recovering against getting some seats that are going to be more comfortable.

R34 Seats into Z
Hi all, Has anyone heard of or done a swap with Skyline R34 front seats into a 260Z, or Subaru WRX seats. Thanks, Al.

What do the Vacuum Solenoids Do?
The PO must have cut the wires off the two solenoids. Each solenoid has a blue and black wire coming from it to a four pin connector.

Pedal date Bingo
Hi Alan, This may be something interesting. On Chloe's list of manual brake pedals she lists one as ?/77 6Y17 I have an auto brake pedal from an Aus delivered 2/77 260Z with 6Y17 stamped on it. The pedal also has two more numbers stamped just behind where the foot plate is welded on, which are 99. Does anyone else have these two numbers down the bottom of the pedal? Alan P.

Centre cap fitting
Yoy do realize Lachlan that you can't post a picture of the cap because then we'll know that your camera is working.

Pedal date Bingo
Ok Alan you've got me interested. Did you know that none of us were going to have date stamps on our clutch pedals? My brake pedal has 5Z05 plus two extra numbers a bit closer to the bottom of the pedal which are 87. My old auto brake pedal also has six numbers. Alan P.

Can you id this box
Do any of these wires go to the canister in your other post, Can I remove this, if so they are horn relays. Only guessing but it makes sense. Alan.
-
Can I remove this
Two wires at the bottom and tubes that go to the front of the car and go to nothing. My guess, Air Horn Pump. Alan.

My hood doesn't fit...
It's probably too late for this but can you try fitting your original bonnet to the donor car. In theory it should fit with the reverse problem. Alan.

On Rotisserie
mperdue, the rotisserie took me two goes to get it right, the first try the car wouldn't rotate past the tie rail in between the front and rear stands, so I had to lower the turning axis on the pivots thru the car. Now i've used a rotisserie there is no going back to lying on the floor, i'm getting too old for that.

Cleaned, stripped and painted waiting for a body
mperdue, the paint is White Knight Rust Guard, machinery grey. I chose this colour because it is very easy to pick up any leaksagainst the grey rather than the standard black. I have used this paint before on other cars and it works well. 26th-Z, The original colur is black, the same paint as the rest of the suspension components and underside. I used blue engine enamel so it would stay on and match the drive line (engine and gearbox ). Seppi72, The shed was built by myself for the reason of holding all my finished pieces. I'm a cabinetmaker by trade so I made sure they would hold a lot of weight.

Rust repair to rear quarter for ariel
I will lead wipe it for the next step, but it is very close at the moment straight off the welder. Patience is the key when MIG welding, you have to overcome the urge to keep going and get the panel and patch too hot.
