  1. From your description , I'm guessing it has a synchronized reverse gear? if it wasn't synchronized, it would grind bloody murder if you tried to put it into reverse without disengaging the clutch. Assuming it is a synchronized reverse... What you're doing is using the synchros as a "clutch" (which is actually exactly what they are). You're pressing the two synchro cones together using the shift lever and there's enough friction between the two surfaces to move the car a little. Probably wouldn't happen with warm transmission oil, but with the cold thick oil, you're getting enough energy transferred to move the car. The harder you press against the linkage, the more the car should move. In theory (only), if you were to force those two cones together hard enough, the car would speed up and eventually snick into gear once everything "synchronized" to the same speed. But in reality, you would bend something in the linkage first or burn up a synchro with the heat. So what's the point? The point is that it sounds like the transmission guts are doing that they're supposed to do, and the problem is somewhere in front of the input shaft. Clutch problem (as if you didn't already know that).
  2. Hey guys, It has been my dream for many years to move to a spot where I could build my dream garage. Well, this year my dream was realized. We moved to a new house and I did not even need to build the garage. It came with a 36'x64' Pole Barn!! The barn is a great space. It really is a blank canvas at this point though. I have the shell, but I need to finish the interior. The previous owner got a start on the wiring and putting up some insulation and walls. They also left an area at the back in gravel, with the intent of building in 3 horse horse stalls. The first thing I will need to do is to get that filled in with concrete. After that I want to have an asphalt driveway put in. I had a gravel driveway put in this year as a temporary step, so I could get to the barn without having to drive over the lawn. This year I was consumed with working on the house and getting it to a point where the wife is happy with it. Is that even possible, LOL!! She always comes up with more stuff to do, or things she wants to add. So, next year is the year of the barn. I am just getting serious about putting a plan together. This is where you guys come in. I know a few of you have built some pretty nice garages. I would love to hear all of your ideas on what I should build into the garage. I am particularly interested in what I should do now, before the walls and ceiling are installed. All ideas on nice features to add and the timing of the build process are welcome. Thanks, Marty
  3. Well, with all this extra time at home, I was able to get the barn organized. I bought some warehouse pallet racking shelves. They are super strong, rated at 1,800 lbs per shelf. I was able to get all of my spare parts stored on them. My 2 spare engines are on rollers and shoved under the bottom shelf. My other storage cabinets are in the other corner. I finally have a good amount of space opened up in the middle to actually do some work in there.. My HVAC guys had double hernia surgery, so the heater is on hold at at least May. Next up, I need to build a work bench. I will have to put some thought in to that. I saw a You tube video that shows you how to build one, which looked pretty nice. I'll have to check out some other options.

  5. Reminds me of waking up from surgery with an "X" on my good ankle. Kind of scared me.

I fabbed my own brackets for the front turn signals when I replaced the front valence with an air dam 6 or 7 years ago. https://fiddlingwithzcars.wordpress.com/260z-air-dam-and-front-bumper/

  9. I have them front and rear, mostly for aesthetics since I don't track. The rear one did not stop the panel squeaks. I think that's why Nissan installed thin foam on all the edges.
  10. There's an end play spec.
  11. It may have had a dual purpose, but my 1972 Owners Manual states; "If you find it necessary to have yours towed, it is important that the towing rope be fastened only to hook that attach the frame, as illustrated. The rope must be routed under the bottom edge of the bumper. Admittable load of the hook is less than 2,200lb."
