  1. Here are a couple updates until the thread is restored. Got the carbs cleaned up and mostly installed. Got new braided hoses from Jay at http://jdm-car-parts.com/. Jay does a great job with these hoses. The quality is amazing and they look great with the wire clamps. Will continue adding parts to motor. Also doing a bit of interior work.
  2. The price stated, even for an N42 head (as opposed to an E31) is well under market value. If flat and un-cracked a very good buy. I have one of Dave's N42 heads on a full race 3.2L engine (13.7:1 CR) and it sure didn't cost $600. The back-up L28 race engine has the original Bob Sharp E31 head and we had a spare made up to the same specs. That ended up costing 10 times the asking price of the head being offered above.
  3. adjusting the lash hot has been important in my experience. others have differing opinions, but my reasoning is: when the engine is at operating temp, it is within a fairly narrow/specific temp (provided your cooling system is functioning properly). when it's "cold" you don't really know how "cold" it is - can be a relatively large swing depending on ambient temps. get the car good and warmed up, leave it idling while you get everything ready (blanket on the fender, 14mm and 17mm wrenches for valve adjust, 10mm socket w/extension for valve cover, large crescent wrench to turn the cam, feeler gauges set up (.010"/.25mm intake, .012"/.30mm exhaust), plug socket & extension, then when you're all set, shut her down, pull the plugs, valve cover, start at #1 and work your way down the line. you should be able to slide the correct feeler gauge in with a light resistance and the next size up should not go in. remember that the clearance gets tighter when you torque up the lock nut, so you need to back check every one as you go. once you get the hang of it, you can do all 12 in about 10-15 min. set 'em right and she'll run nice and quiet.
  4. Call me crazy but, other than doing the dogleg rust repair I would leave the paint as it is and drive it. I like the faded chipped but fairly complete paint.
  5. Sounds like you're living the good life. Good luck. Don't forget to reset timing with the new distributor.
  6. Datsun grills are Awesome.
  7. Funny as @#$%. And yet, having two tanks to clean, this has really got me thinking. Greased up revolving engine stand, or a couple of pillow block bearings and a shaft on a frame, large hamster wheel for the dogs to power it, one fishing pole and hotdog the only thing left to find is a Harold as a critic.
