  1. Are you saying it doesn't work as good as a modern day system? Did you install it or pay someone? Have you fixed the other 17 problems you've complained about? I'm not trying to be a d*** but you're making it impossible not to be. There's been so much help given to you but you just ignore us. Nobody takes you serious anymore. I've typed this out of pity.
  2. Not yet. It is in the mail and I have a tracking number. I will post some shots of the inside and sending unit when it arrives. The fuel pump assy is a spare basically. Unknown condition but the car it came from only had 50,000 miles on it.
  3. wheee! Do you have it in hand?

  7. Thanks all for the replies, and I'm happy my follies provided some entertainment At the risk of digging myself deeper into my hole, some attempts at explanation... I started with the rack and steering wheel because having seen the things that POs had done to the car, I suspected it was off center, which it turned out to be. I overlooked the center punch, so that's on me, and I'll check to see if I still ended up off center at all. I went with toe out because John's alignment specs on Hybrid Z were the only ones I could find anywhere, so that was my starting point. Regarding parallel: I wasn't measuring to get parallel to the car, but measuring to get the strings parallel to rear wheels. I used the same link that John posted and tried to do that. The alignment -- used loosely -- that the car started with when I got it was absolutely bonkers. Visibly bonkers (the numbers are at home, but 5/16" out on the left and 1/4" in on the right are coming to mind), so it would have been impossible to make it worse, and I might even learn something along the way by giving it a shot myself. Anyway, both front tires have uneven wear: both are more worn on the righthand side; additionally, the right tire has about 1/8" less tread total than the left. Considering that alone, I don't know if there's any hope to get things totally right. And that isn't a terrible problem anyway. The wheels and tires on the car are rather awful and I'm eager to replace them when the rears finally give out. At that point, I'll have it properly aligned by someone who knows what they're doing. For now, I'm happy to fiddle with it myself. It's already a whole lot better than it was. Thanks again for the comments.
  8. Got some more pics taken this weekend and a tad bit more work done. Pulled valve cover and it had oil on camshaft from turning it over. Still poured directly on the cam but didn't turn it over this time. Other than that I got the flat tires fixed and pulled the front bumper mounts off.
  9. Ok Im not sure whats going on but I only selected Zed Heads post to quote, not the other 2 above. Anyway, I too can't find any reference to said part number. I think she has the correct ECU and like you said the 6 was probably scraped making it look like an 8. So hopefully the ECU I sent Jai is the answer to her issues. I know the one I sent her is a good unit. I ran it in my 77 for a couple months and all was good.

  12. Hi guys, just wanted to catch up on this thread. Blue actually mentioned that he's going to take a break from the Internet (as a whole) for awhile. We checked in and he's working on a few real-world projects to keep him busy. I suspect he may be back after the work is done. As far as this thread, please keep it civil and try not to get into flame wars. We aren't that kind of site. People come to this site to be constructive while we leave the flame wars to the other sites. Thanks. m
  13. Here's my story getting my 77 back on the road. http://petrolicious.com/here-s-why-i-fell-in-love-with-the-datsun-280z Most of running issues were electronic in nature. All the rubber bits were so shot, and every connection full of corrosion, it just made sense to start all over with new connections instead of trying to restore old ones. Good luck with your project.
  14. Good News! The Mallory LIVES! I just took what Carl said to heart, and my final configuration is this RED wire from Mallory to 12.4V ballast resistor BROWN wire to a chassis ground GREEN wire to negative terminal of the coil. Car started right up! I was able to get 15 deg BTDC at idle and it maxes out at 30 or 31 deg BTDC. The idle feels great, the car fired up cold and stayed running with much more ease at 15 deg BTDC. I was happy to hear her run on the mallory. ONly annoyance now is that the rotor does not point anywhere near where it is suppose to. When I dropped in the Mallory, the detent for the rotor to go on was about 100 degrees out of whack. I was able to just move the wires over, but keeping the OEM clocking of the wires would be great since the number 6 wire is so stretched I can barely reach the dizzy. May have to get some custom wires and make one wire a custom length just for number 6 But for now I am thrilled. Need to make new wire covers and organize everything, but this is great. Cannot wait to feel what 15 deg BTDC static feels like.
