Z's from China

Featured Replies

I watched this video and was going to post it here and Zed Head beat me to it. The catalog ZH posted only shows a small number of the parts and unfortunately don't list as fitting the 260z's.

I like the fact that the narrator apparently owns a 240z so he focused in on them being made.

I just saw a video about made-in-China Muncie M22 transmissions (old car hot rod 4 speeds). The guy gave a good explanation about how parts are shipped to the US in bulk, then shipped out from the warehouses.

The unit was a combination of decent parts and not-quite-right parts.

Has any of you seen examples of an entire Z body from China being transplanted onto a rusted out Z?

No, but interesting thought, right?

That was an awesome video of that factory with the Z body parts being stamped and the AE86...

These guys bought an Ae86 body and did the parts swap. Still not clear how much it would cost to get one. Youtube content people.

People are shocked! at the quality. Surprise.

  • 3 months later...

Cool video from Hagerty at the Juncheng manufacturing plant making classic car parts including the 240Z (about 11 minutes in).

I guess we now wait to see how this 240Z 'product' is deployed in the marketplace...

  • Complete vehicles?

  • Complete shells?

  • Individual panel assemblies?

  • Individual panels?

Another question: How will marketing, sales, and distribution be strategized for key markets (i.e. USA, Europe, Japan).

And how will tariffs affect final retail pricing?

Depending on how (and whether) this is accomplished, it could result in some major changes to the current Z restoration products/services landscape.

Or maybe this is intended solely for the Chinese market (which is probably big enough on its own to support the investment)...

I set up an order for a door just to see what was involved and the part was FOB Shanghai so I guess the shipping and logistics are up to the person placing the order. That and the Independence Day Tax will likely significantly increase the cost.
