I wonder what the production date would be for this car, being an HS30? based on the engine number on the data tag, 13553, my guess is about 9/70. I don't see some of the very early features that my 1/70 HLS30 car has.

The car has been offered for sale several times over the last couple of years, but the asking price has been quite high and the market here in the UK is particularly difficult lately. It takes a long time to find the right buyer.

I've seen the car in person and it's really nice, but it's not a good time to be selling. Another - also Green - ex-Australian market car, slightly later production than this one (I think early '71?) was sold last year here in the UK and it took a LONG time for that to find a new home. It went for what I would regard as a high figure though.

Late August and into September seems about right. It must be remembered that HS30-prefixed production was stopped quite early while Nissan Shatai concentrated efforts on satisfying local Japanese demand and the huge numbers required for North American consumption. It made sense for them to hold fire on other markets which required detail differences in - for example - lighting type approval, but which also had more competition and in some cases higher sales taxes to contend with.

It's natural for people to see low chassis numbers and imagine that it automatically means 'early' production, but it doesn't work like that for HS30 prefixes. Nissan told us that the seventh S30-series Z to be given a serial production number and the indeed the fourth production prototype Z was HS30-00001, and that public sales began with HS30-00003 in October 1969, but production was intermittent after that. Factory data tells us that January 1971 production of HS30-prefixed cars began again with HS30-00501, so 1970 year production must have been less than 500 cars presuming no gaps/jumps.

Most likely a good deal for the buyer, but Color change with blacked out engine compartment, very few and poor photo's of the undercarriage didn't help. Sign of the times in this market. When sales prices drop, like we have seen in the past couple years - new buyers are even more hesitant to buy in - unless they feel they are getting a bargain.

That 1970 #99 car seems like it's seen some use/abuse from a collector viewpoint. Engine not original, not clear which 5 speed it has, the seller apparently doesn't have spellcheck. Doubtful that it sells.

The engine block number matches the engine bay data plate. What makes you say it isn't the original? Description says that the car had an L28 installed for a while, but the original L24 was re-installed.

The transmission is the FS5C71-A 5-speed, as fitted to the car when new. You can tell that just from the photos.

My mistake, I must have confused it with a different car, the red 71, which does not have the original engine. Plus the fact that it was removed once, when the 280Z L28 was intalled. Still not clear which five speed it has.

Trust me. It's the original type FS5C71-A, as I pointed out above.

Not fitted as standard equipment on North American market variants, so I guess you might not be familiar with it.

Why? The seller did not describe it. You haven't verified that you've seen it. It had a 280Z engine in it, many of which came with five speeds. Who can say that the 280Z five speed wasn't installed? The head has been changed, so one aspect of originality has already been lost.

Saw your comment on BaT. Feel free to verify that you are certain it's the FS5C71-A. It looks like you might be assuming. Of course, the seller should be doing this, unless you are representing him.
