Saw your comment on BaT. Feel free to verify that you are certain it's the FS5C71-A. It looks like you might be assuming.

If you can't tell the difference between an A-series 5-speed and a B-series 5-speed I recommend you subject yourself to a crash course in early Z transmission identification. The car in question was fitted with an FS5C71-A as standard equipment. The photos show it clearly. Even the sliding spline centre joint propeller shaft photo confirms it. This stuff is early Z 101.

So, is this a good "restoration" or is it more a revivation? Wrong brake line material and color, wrong head, wrong wheels. Did the Australia cars not come with the anti-resonator in the exhaust system? Doesn't have one here. Are right side drive cars valued differently than left side?

Still curious about the buyers for these cars. What are they looking for?

On the HS30- 000099 car I wonder why it explicitly mentions the E31 head, wouldn't it be stock for that year car? That's the head that came on my 12/70 US 240z.

I'm reading the auction description and it says - clearly (although not clearly enough for you) - "refurbished in the early 2000s". I don't know what you are expecting but I look at this car and see a fairly honest rolling refurb with some non-originality (it's not a sin) which would be similar to many of the cars owned by members of the classiczcars forum community. I don't see any claim of concours-level originality or bare metal nut and bolt type restoration and the photos speak for themselves in showing a well used 56 year old classic car. Why are you giving this particular car so much of your unfocused and ill-informed attention?

Yes the auction description and photos are perhaps less than perfect (if the dash is pretty good then take the cover off it and show it) but that's being matched - if not exceeded - by your asinine comments on it. Your "Any ideas on where the original engine is?" comment is still up there, isn't it?

Brake line material "wrong" in what sense? Again, I don't see any claim of it being "right". Looks to me like a typical Kunifer/Cupro-Nickel aftermarket set sold by the likes of Automec. As far as I'm aware there are no steel aftermarket brake hard line kits available for RHD cars.

How is an E31 cylinder head "wrong" for this car? A 1970-built Australian market HS30 would have an L24 fitted with an E31 head as stock equipment. What else would you expect it to have?

Yes, it doesn't have it's stock wheels any more. Four of the five other 240Zs currently up for auction on BAT don't have their original steel wheels either. Here's your chance to drop a comment on each of those auctions too. However you might have trouble getting past the BAT moderators now that you've embarrassed yourself by suggesting a car doesn't have its original engine or transmission when it clearly - yes, clearly - does.

From the auction description: "A stainless steel exhaust system is fitted...". You're looking for factory stock features on an aftermarket exhaust system, then? Really?

It's not written very well on the auction description, but the car in question would indeed have been fitted with an E31 cylinder head when it left the factory.

I guess the "high compression" distinction is being made to confirm that it doesn't have a later, lower compression, E88 head casting. Many E31 heads were replaced over the years with the more numerous E88 castings due to cracks forming between their valve seats and corrosion around the coolant passages causing head gasket sealing problems.

#99 looked to be a very good example. Certainly worth more than the high bid, given its condition. I wish it were stateside, but that's how the chips fall.

Another modified 280Z. They seem to do well. It has the VG30E V6, edit - actually VG30DE, like my old Pathfinder, but the more fancy version. No driving video, I don't get how anyone could list on BaT and not have a driving video. Just weird. The seller has a long list of past listings too. Maybe it's a sales technique to get people to keep coming back. I feel manipulated.
