Luke Posted September 7, 2002 Share #1 Posted September 7, 2002 hi all,i am looking at replacing my wheels. my tyre placard says just 175 r14, it doesn't have the aspect. what was the original tyre size for a 72 240z? i have a set of 15's to put on but want to get the rubber right. fyi http://www.toyo.co.uk/converter/converter.html is a great tool for plus-sizingcheers,luke
laffeaux Posted September 7, 2002 Share #2 Posted September 7, 2002 In the US the stock size for '71 is "175 H R-14." I'm not sure if the UK used the same size, or if you guys ever had the crazy system for giving tire size. I have my original spare and it's this size - an "H" is about a 70 or 75 in modern aspect ratio.
Ed Posted September 8, 2002 Share #3 Posted September 8, 2002 Are you sure you want to put the original tire's on there? (skinny little buggers) The car looks SOO much better with some meat holding it on the ground.
SFMRZ Posted September 8, 2002 Share #4 Posted September 8, 2002 I've talk to Michelin and they said that the original tire size for the 240Z was 175 - 80 - 14 which is about a 25" tire. 195 - 70 - 14 or 225 - 60 - 14 would have about the same diameter. Luke Posted September 9, 2002 Author Share #5 Posted September 9, 2002 thanks guys & yes i am planning to put fatter tyres on ;-) i just needed to know the original overall dia. so i could get the right profile for my 15x7's. apparently it is very important to maintain correct overal dia for correct susp. geometry?
