After years of storage I finally found the time and resources to restore my Z. Unfortunately, years of storage nearly took her life as she is stricken with car cancer. The original owner was in a bad accident and destroyed the right side inner fender and frame. Whoever did the repairs was an amateur and never straightened or replaced the frame rail as it's still bent down and makes the Z list to the right. Had she not been a low VIN car I would of parted her out and sent her to the crusher. http://s141.photobucket.com/albums/r49/gwilhelm/240z/ I have more pics that I need to upload tonight that show the frame damage. Recognize the garage? Steve aka Madkaw ca…

happy days, my car is finally heading to the paint shop. I've been waiting forever-it seems-to get to this point. It seems like I have been doing everyone elses car http://www.classiczcars.com/forums/showthread.php?t=25483&highlight=midwest+shop but now it is my turn. I can't wait till it gets back so I can put her back together.

When I bought #32 last year, the paint was pretty good, but it had a couple of dings that needed to be fixed. It had been painted silver in the 70's by the original owner, and then repainted the original 903 blue in the mid 80's. About 10 years ago, the owner's toddler decided to take batting practice on the front of the drivers fender, just behind the sugar scoop, with a big plastic bat. There was a small dent above the gas lid when something fell against the car in the owner's garage. Also, the seam between the quarter panel and roof on the passenger's side had flexed and cracked the paint. Originally I was going to see if I could just get these three areas repaire…

The poor old zed has hung on the rotissery for nearly 2 years (2 kids and a house move didn't help) but I've pulled my finger out and am having a crack this week while I'm on holidays. I've got the drivers floor fully welded in, floor rail on one side and several other small rust repair sections around the car done. Note the battered front section of the old rail and the finnished result with the new rail. I had a longer section of floor rail folded up and used the extra length to plate the underside of the remaining rail so there is no weld/join where the floor finnishes. Hopefully this will help avoid the chance of the rail cracking where it would have been joined. T…

I brought my red 240Z back home this afternoon, following the successful re-skinning of the roof to eliminate the sunroof. Here are some before and after pictures. I don't have pictures of the process itself just yet, we couldn't get his camera to download to my laptop (bad USB cable, I think), so I'll have to wait for him to e-mail them to me before I can post them. Soon, I hope.

I have my car up on stands and was removing the diff and half-shafts on the weekend. I knew these bolts would be a problem, I lubed them first, then used a torch and heated them up. The firast one turned a half turn then the head snapped off. All the rest broke off also. I noticed that the P/O must have snapped one off also because one was snapped off before I got to it. I guess the best way now is to drill/tap it. But I need new bolts. I looked in the fiche and I *think* its #20. It says BOLT HEX M10 x4 (but theres 5 bolt holes?). Anyone know the exact specs of this bolt so I can get replacements?

Other than looking at paint colour samples online and guessing at what colour your Z is (or was) , is there a way you can determine the original colour number if there is no decal on the radiator support? thxZ

So like an idiot I let a "friend of a friend" paint my Z, I knew this was a mistake. I dont know where this guy painted the car, perhaps in a dusty corn field? I have never, and I mean never, seen as much junk in the clear, orange peel in the base and huge, nasty 2 foot x 1 foot long runs. In some spots it looks like maple syrup poured on the fender. On parts of the car, there is not enough base to 100% cover the primer. From about the beltline down, there is so much orange peel I thought Anita Bryant painted it. And the overspray on my nice, original uncracked dash...and everything else. Seriously, I cant beleive this guy paints cars for money at all. Somebody is going t…

I recently picked up a center valance in great shape from bad dog parts to complete my spook conversion. I have the center valance, the left and right valances, and the MSA spook back from paint and I am very happy with the quality of work. I am gearing up to take off the front bumper, but I have been reading that the front valance with the captive nut plates is a rare part and may or may not fit my car? 26th-Z has been a great help on this, and he has educated me on the history of this part and the matching the corner valances that goes along with it. My corner valances do not have the captive nuts installed. Do I have a collection of parts that will not match up? …
