I was wondering if anyone could help. I recently starting thinking about changing over to an electronic ignition. My question is what is the difference between XR700 Electronic Ignition System and PerTronix Ignition Kit and which is a better way for me to go. The two that I have seen are very similar in price so that is not a factor. thx in advance for your help.

Anyone got information or documentation on the casting codes on the pistons and/or rods from the '70-83 Z car engines? I need to identify some parts. Also while I'm asking, was the bore the same for all of the above years and only the stroke and/or rod length changed?

I was just toying with the thought of putting a bottle on my L28. Nothing dumb and not for everyday use. But I have most of the stuff and thought I may bolt it in for alittle kick in the azz here n there. So how big of a shot can they take without damage? Like I said its just for fun and the fact that I have it.

Well.. It's spring time, the Z will be out in 3 weeks.. I have an intriguing noise... on start-up. The previous owner installed a racing flywheel with an integrated ring gear.. But the starter and that flywheel do not match perfectly well.. so the noise is bad...kinda of a horrfic grinding noise:finger: I'm confronted with 2 options..to drop the transmission and fix the problem... 1. Buy a new race flywheel... but that will not solve the bad matching starter-flywheel (and that part is pricey...) 2. Put back the OE flywheel (that I can have polished and lighten up at a machine shop), and put a new ring gear solving my awful noise on start-up... What would you do???

I have a block on an engine stand in the garage and have a real noob question....(I rank low on the mechanical side ). It has been serving just as an art piece but I thought I might take it apart and clean the inside. I was going to start by removing all the bolts you see pictured or is that the wrong starting point. I may one day use this block so I also want to make sure I'm not doing more harm than good. Also, as it sits should the pistons be able to move by pushing on them? Because these won't budge. So, any advice. Thanks, Randy

Ok, my new Z runs great! It's a 72 and I just drove it 1500 miles home and it runs amazing but I did notice a few cosmetic items and one big "clunk" when shifting gears. It appears from searching the posts here this would most likely be the front diff mount needing replacement. I haven't checked it under the car yet but I have reviewed the manuals and I can't find anything in detail about replacing this part. Is it as easy as removing the crossmember below it and unbolting it from the front of the diff? I would assume I could suuport the diff with a floor jack but does anything else need to be removed? Is this pretty staright forward? Thanks!

So yesterday I pulled apart the L28 that I thought had a bad head or head gasket. I was very shocked when I found what had been the cause of my milk in the oilpan. Of all the things that could happen....... It was the timing chain tensioner!!!!! I pulled chain cover and found that the tensioner had some how come out of the hole it should be in. It was outside the hole on the top and kicked over like a wedge with the lower part still in the hole. With that it took out the front lobe of the cam, stretched the chain, pulled the cam gear loose, ate up most of the cam gear, and opened up a coolant leak near the waterpump All of that without one odd noise from the motor..…
