Took some pics of my 240z side-by-side with my 2025 400z
Thanks Paul and Mike.... BTW.... I have been on this site for 18yrs since owning my 1973 240z, and it's been so helpful in allowing me to bring it up to reliable standards while preserving the authentic look. This is an awesome website!!

Thanks for sharing, those are great photos! The 400Z looks a lot wider and a little taller but retains the basic Z shape. My 2018 WRX looks like a small SUV when parked next to my 280Z.

Took some pics of my 240z side-by-side with my 2025 400z
Hello everyone, Just added the 2025 400z to my garage and wanted to share some cool pics next to my 1973 240z (which I have owned for 20yrs). With 50yrs of Datsun/Nissan Technology between both cars, there still is the purest of styling and lines that's the signature of the "Z's" that is very much recognizable. Anyway .. hope you all enjoy a few of the pics. Many thanks , Mark

How vibration free is your 70-71 240Z?
Soccer's a gamble. I felt lucky to have made it through the years with none of the major long-term injuries. I did have to do some PT on a knee. My doctor had been a college athlete and had the "suck it up and take some Advil" attitude. So I went in to weekend warrior mode and tried to tough it out. He sent me to PT when I went back a month later and showed him that the thigh on the injured leg was about 2/3 the size of the good one. The PT shop owner used to do the Cleveland Browns football team. Got me straightend up pretty quick but it still wouldn't bend as far as the other one for about three years. And the tough-it-out doctor was afraid of blood. Later, after the knee, he refused to remove the stitches in my chin because the tails were cut too short (forgot to mention the chin. And the broken collar bone.) and there would be blood if he had to dig them out. I had to go to the drug store and buy some tweezers and pointy scissors to dig them out myself. There was blood. Good times.

Bodywork Issues
I don't think it's an original Nissan hatch seal, as it's sold by the metre. But it sure is better than what I had. It's not a simple seal swap like it would be for the doors. There's 6 interior panels to remove, then the adhesive. Then there's all those push pin clips, oh, I found out where some of those pins are going, I found the mother load. I think I got 14 of them from this one spot with a piece of radiator hose taped to my shop vac and a piece of screen taped over the end.

And for a little "snake oil" friction reducer I add about 4 oz. of TVT Green to the oil change. TVT Green vs Royal purple

Oil recommendation
My 1972 240z is rarely used as it is not in perfect driving conditions. It misfires when temperature rises at idle during traffic jams. However, i need to change the engine oil. Should i purchase for 5 liters of 10w30? Or is there something better for this engine?

Bodywork Issues
Website says they'll be closing down the business at the end of 2025 (they've been in operation since the mid-1980's, so that's a pretty good run). They appear to be re-sellers, rather than manufacturers (I suggest this b/c they're offering an extensive catalogue of parts across dozens of badge plates and vintages). I wonder where they've been sourcing that Z hatch seal. Japan, maybe?

How vibration free is your 70-71 240Z?
Yes, I am a keeper! I had to come out to try to block an open shot. Two of the other team's players briefly competed for who was going to take the shot, and I guess one of them went straight through me. I say guess, because I am unsure what happened, but I did get the save :) For me, each wrist has now been broken - this is the second time for my radius bone in the left arm. The first time, I got a cross shaped break in it when the ball shot from 10 feet away hit nothing but my left and hammered it toward the bottom of my forearm. Continuing :) -- Both pinkie fingers, one middle finger, and a few front, as well as one back rib. I have torqued both sets of shoulder ligaments several times, but they are quite good now. And, I got nine stitches (one internal, 8 external) at the left eyebrow about 8 months ago. That is pretty much it. Many years were injury free, but not so much in this last 8 months. I didn't think I would still be playing competitively at 56, but I still really enjoy it. I think I am nearly ready to stop playing in Over 30 now however. The stitches and these most recent bone breaks came from playing in that league.

Are you a keeper? All of my injuries were ankle, knee, nose, eyebrow, or jaw. And one AC joint. And a groin.

I have it and will check the ID (it is no longer installed) and compare it to the spare new one I still have on hand. I won't be out in the shop much until my wrist heals some. The end of my radius bone is broken (at the wrist) and my pinky is broken too. Was definitely unfortunate in the game on Friday!

I don't think you are supposed to put them on a car. I think they are intended to be wall art. 😂

I was going to try it out first, but I just finished installing it and the seal fit like a glove. I think I read on their website that they may be going out of business soon. It's part# 864.131

That's why I finally threw in the towel and reskinned my doors. There was soooo much wrong with his doors that it got to the point where I just couldn't go forward. They became a time vampire.

I'd be curious to know if Max has contacted everyone that purchased doors to let them know there is a potential problem or is he just going to let people go through the same hell he put me through. Summit Racing carries the doors and as a long time customer of theirs I contacted them about the problem and directed them to this thread, No clue if it will get any traction but $1400.00 is a lot of money for me to set fire to. If I had purchased the doors through Summit I would be raising holy hell with them. The doors are back in their original boxes so if Max has a change of heart and wants to refund my money I sure would appreciate it.

I ordered a hatch seal from Australia. Here are the profile differences between the PRECISION hatch seal and this one from Australia and their compression. This Australian Hatch seal has the same profile throughout the entire seal, unlike the "molded corner" Precision one. The 2nd hatch seal I tried was ordered from VintageRubber and it is identical to the Precision seal, which is anything but precise. 😆

I can only speak for myself. But it wasn't but just a few years ago that there wasn't any replacement sheet metal. Tabco pieces were about it. When manufactures start supplying parts, for me, it is very positive. But when you actually purchase and install, that is something completely different. You are risking the entire outcome of a restore based on just a few pieces of sheet metal. That is why tossing them was much less expensive than using them.
