  1. FYI that 64 roadster sold like instantaneously.

Welcome. Sounds like a good project. Take your time with it. I'm sure if you search around here you will find everything you could ever want to know (and more) about the restoration process. If not, just ask. There are some very knowlegeable members here.
  3. Hey Dwigley, did you happen to buy that red 240 on Craigslist San Antonio?
  4. I saw this on DimeQuarterly.com; it claims to be car #599 for sale in Los Angeles: Condition could be rough. Somebody local may want to check it out.

That's great. You have a real treasure there. I'm not exaggerating when I say that several members of this forum would kill to have a car like that. There are some good threads here about what to do for a Z that hasn't been run in a long period of time. Twenty-four thousand miles. Wow, that's how many miles I have on my 2003 Sentra. : )
  6. The value of a car that early would be much higher with its original numbers-matching engine than with a swapped-in engine. See if the seller has the original engine on site somewhere.
  7. That car looks really nice from the few exterior pictures in the ad.
  8. I live north of Austin but I have a roadster. And it is currently in many pieces.

Very helpful. Self-taught? Any resources you can recommend for learning? I've never done any welding but am probably going to get into it and that sounds like a decent set-up.

If you could provide details on that $900 spent, that would be very helpful. What kind of equipment did you buy and where?
  11. And Christopher Walken.
  12. You can buy the parts you need from Nissan, with the exception of the float valves and the nozzles, which I believe are NLA (I may be out of date on that). If you don't need to replace those pieces, it is cheapest to go that way. If you do need to replace those parts, Z-Therapy is the only place to get the float valves and nozzles because they rebuild them. In which case it is cheapest to buy their full rebuild kit. The videos are very informative, BTW.
  13. I don't think you mis-led anyone. Certainly if you did you cleared it up immediately. Sounds like you are going about the restoration in the right way. Building a garage to have a good workspace is VERY smart. You may want to consider creating a project website once you get underway. I have one going for the Datsun roadster I am restoring (http://www.mydatsunroadster.com), and the cost was like $120 for hosting and domain registration a year. I try to take pictures and write-up what I'm doing. It is always easier to ask technical questions if/when you have them if you have a site with pictures to refer people to. And it is nice to be able to share with people (by referring them to the site) when you reach milestones.
  14. Very nice. What are your plans for the car (if anything)? It looks like it is in good enough shape to just park in the garage and drive on weekends.
  15. You need to host those pics on the web somewhere, including your personal album here, and then put the IMG tags around the URL where they are located.
  16. What procedure/products do you use to polish the aluminum parts?

Looks like we aren't even going to get rain. Unless you count the flood of Houstonians in town.
  18. AWC replied to DevilZ's topic in Open Chit Chat
It is the weekend after this. We'll get rain and wind, but we'll be fine in a couple of weeks.
  19. Little known fact: the Swing Wing was pulled from the market when it was found to cause severe upper spinal cord trauma.
  20. Dude, you couldn't have talked her into a Datsun roadster?
  21. Nissan does have a light and powerful 4-banger: the QR25DE. It has a long stroke (100 mm) so it doesn't rev easily or high, but it has a ton of torque and is a really fun motor when aggressively tuned. It is smaller and lighter than the legendary SR20 and, in stock form, has 175 horsepower in the SE-R Spec-V. It also is the base engine in the new Nissan Frontiers, so it is already available in a RWD 5-speed application. I would love to see Nissan release a small and light RWD sports car, in the spirit of the old Datsun roadsters and original Z-cars. I think they could make a ton of money from young people in that market. If they wanted to make something really hot they would bring over the VVL technology from Japan.
  22. So then how long do you have with the body primed before the finish paint needs to go on? It goes: Blast Epoxy Primer Bodywork ??? I guess you need to sand to provide some tooth for the next coat of paint because the primer will have dried and perhaps cured by the time you do the next coat. Would it be necessary to do another coat of primer or could you go straight to base?
  23. Also check out the mailing list archives at: http://www.team.net/archive/datsun-roadsters and consider joining the list.
  24. I just sent my roadster carb bodies off to Keith Williams in Las Vegas. He machines the throttle shafts down a little bit and adds new, brass bushings and plastic o-rings to fit in the gap. His price is very reasonable. It takes some fine machining which is why most people don't do it themselves. I'm doing the rest of the carburetor rebuild myself. I was under the impression that this feature of the SUs had been fixed when they started making the Z-cars.
