  1. You might have a look at the write up at the link below... Not sure if it'll help but it might be a place to start... http://alteredz.com/gagecalibration.htm I fortunetly haven't had any problems with any of my gages, so I can't give ya any first hand advice... But it looks like you may need to either service, adjust, or calibrate your sending unit...
  2. Cool... Thanks for the advice guy's
  3. Ok... I was talking to a couple of friends and we all decided the gold centers of the car wheels look really dated.... And than we all decided that the wheels would look better painted black... Hence the question... what's the best way to prep the gold center portion for paint??? Clean and degrease with Simply Green?? or ??? Also should I powder coat them, or will spry painting them be good enough?? Thanks for the opinions, and advice....
  4. Hey Guy's... Does anyone know, Can the interior rearview mirror be referb'd??? It appears that the postioning ball joint has loosened up over the years, and when I drive the car for any length of time the mirror changes position on me, so I constantly have to readjust the mirror... I think MSA sells them new.. and I think they go for about 150.00, and one has poped up on ebay... but the last one I tried bidding on went for about 80.00.. I may try a junk yard or salvage yard first... But I thought I'd see if it was possible to reconditon the one I have first... Thanks...
  5. You might try this place http://www.zspecialties.com/ I've been there a few years back... basically the owner is a mechanic, who runs a Z auto repair, parts shop... The guy had parts coming out of his ears the last time I was there... Mostly used parts salvaged from used Z cars from what I could tell... but he does sell new stuff also...
  6. That is nice looking.... I remember how excited I was when I got mine back from the body shop.... Only work of caution I have is take your time when you put it back together.... I got so antsy to get mine back together and on the road after having it apart for 3 years... I ended up putting in a few chips, and scratches in the paint when I put the bumpers, and window trim back on I wasn't a happy camper to say the lest... The stripes, and the blacked out airdam contrast the body color nicely... Looks fast even when standing still
  7. Too funny... What guy's won't do for their cars.. I won't stake my life on this since I haven't been right yet about this insurance stuff... BUT I would venture a guess that Hagerty, or any other classic car insurer would not insure a "Classic Vehicle" if it were not properly stored and kept safe... But that's just my guess...
  8. I just got off the phone with the folks at Hagerty... And when I specifically asked about occasional use of my car to drive to work... The rep said "Hagerty has no problem with the car being driven to work a handful of times during the year" The Hagerty Rep made it sound like they were flexible in how the car could be used... But obviously common sense has to be used in how and where I drive the car... I was quoted a price of 158.00/yr and all I need to do is fill out the online application, submit a photo or two, and an affidavit about having a daily use primary vehicle... Looks like I'm moving my insurance over to Hagerty... Thanks to all for their input, and comments
  9. I remember being told the samething when I asked about being able to drive the car to work on an occasional bases... and could have sworn it was someone at Hagerty that told me that... But at my old age I'm not sure of anything anymore I did know about the milage restriction through
  10. Hey Carl.... Thanks for the info... Yes most of my information came from a guy I know that has a 55 or so Chevy that he built for show... now of course his car is insured for 40K so it's a good guess to say his policy is probably quite different from one that I would get.. But than again his car isn't insured with Hagerty, but another classic car insurer... Is there anyone in particular that you, or the other Zcar owners deal with at Hagerty, that I could call in person to discuss my insurance needs for my Z??? Once again thanks for setting me straight on Hagerty insurance.
  11. The cover looks really nice.....
  12. Hey Mike... Do the passenger, and driver sit at or about the same height with the 350 seats?? I ask cause I just installed a set of aftermarket seats in, and I'm not sure if I'll keep them in the Z... I'm now contemplating referbing the seats with the foam, seat webbing, and seat cover kits. Thanks
  13. I spoke to my insurance agent also... and I have the car covered under a classic car writer (or something to that effect) to where in case of a total loss the car is covered to the agreed upon value.. But I also will need to get the car appraised for teh insurance company. The nice thing about the poilcy was that during the winter months when the car is stored in the garage I can remove all of the extra coverage and just keep the Comp(?) (I can never remember what does what when it came to Collision, and Comprehensive coverage) and just pay that portion of the coverage during the winter months. I know it's still abit more than what Haggerty would have costed me, but at least I have a little more latitude in the use of the car.
  14. Thanks.. But I did check Haggerty before I settled on going with my current insurer.. Safeco.. The problem with Haggerty for me was that the car could only be used for pleasure use in the strictest sense.. And I could be wrong here so if I am anyone please chime in and correct me... But unless I was driving my car to, and entered into a car show, or a parade, or used for a pleasure drive... I wouldn't be covered for any type of accident.. Meaning if I wanted to say drive the Z to work sometime during the summer.. and Pow.. I get into an accident.. not covered.. Or say I do head out for a pleasure drive, and I decide to stop off at the store to pick up some items... and Pow I get into an fender bender.. not covered cause the insured car is not to be used to run errands.. But lets say I neglect to tell the insurance company that, and I file a claim.. they pay the repair cost... and find out I had used the car for something other than a pleasure drive... Can you say Insurance fraud??? As much as I'd like to pay the lower premium... it just wasn't worth the potential hassles... and besides what fun is owning a nice fixed up classic car if you can't really enjoy using it??? So in my case Haggerty just didn't really fit me for the way I would like to use the car. But thanks anyways

I sort of would have to agree with Arne.... The pics aren't all that great.. but since I was take the body pieces off the car for paint, and referb.. it was a pretty good reference source on how things came apart, and went back together again...

I'd have to agree with you there... But on the other hand he might be able to talk MSA into throwing in their catalog in for free... I think they want 10.00 bucks if you don't order anything at the time you ask for it.... either way won't hurt to ask :cheeky:

  18. I was thinking the samething..... Anyways Mike, have a look at this thread http://www.classiczcars.com/forums/showthread.php?t=20723 I think you'll find a lot of the answers to your questions there....
  19. You have a dead short somewhere related to that particular fuse... you'll have to do some homework, and take a look at the car wiring diagram and see what is common to that circuit... I know not much help.. but you'll need to start somewhere.....

Thanks for the info ZMan... I think you're right I give MSD tech support a call on Monday and see what they suggest and let you all know what they say.. I have a few questions on which Tach adaptor I'll need to use... The one I was planning on using was PN 8920, but in the drawing that Enigma posted from Jason he used PN 8910.. So I'll need to see what the difference is.. From what I could tell adaptor 8920 looks like it can be used for either Voltage Trigger, or Current Trigger type Tach's

Enigma.... Thank you very much!!!! Just what I was looking for

Well Guy's... I had a look at the install instructions for the Pertronix unit... The diagram shows the red wire from the Pertronix unit connected at the same point as the Ignition Sw, on the same side of the ballast resistor, so it looks like the pertronix unit is getting the full 12V. The instructions says that it's fully compatiable with a point style coil.. I understand the theory of a coil... and with some differences in materials, and design between manufactures.. I always thought coils for a point system were the same... No???

Thanks for the info ZMan... I was wondering about the ballast resistor, did I still need it or could I remove it, or jumper it.. From the reading I've done the ballast resistor is needed if I was still running points... But since I'm not it looks like I can jumper it, or remove it....
  24. peng155 replied to vercingetorix's topic in Electrical
Yeah you're right JZM.. there are actually 2 wires coming from the pertronix unit.. a red wire, and a black one.. The red wire went to one side of the ballast resistor, and the black wire went to the negative side of the coil... But with the MSD unit installed it looked like only the black wire connection was changed.

I'm thinking about installing the MSD 6AL unit into my 71, I have the Pertronix ignition unit installed already, and I'm replacing the stock coil with the MSD Blaster 2 coil. As best as I can figure the wiring of the unit with the tach adaptor installed it should be wired like this... Parts... MSD 6AL unit MSD Tach adptor - PN 8920 MSD Blaster 2 coil - PN 8202 6AL Unit. 12v Power connection... Heavy Red - Pos. Battery Heavy Blk - Neg. Battery Coil connections Orange - Pos. Coil Blk. - Neg. Coil Trigger White - Blk. wire from Pertronix Red - Blk/Wht 12v switch source Tach Output - To Wht MSD Tach adaptor. Does this sound right???
