Replacement speakers for stock radio?
One of the Forum members located an original speaker for me. The cone needs replacing. I have sent the speaker to a local business that specializes in reconing high end drivers. If they can recone the 5 1/8" size (not a common size) and test the magnet for proper strength, I may have found a solution for anyone who wants to stay original. Keith

Where to go for restoration in San Antonio?
There is a great shop in Dallas. PM me if you would consider having the restoration work in North Texas. (I am not affiliated with the shop, other than knowing the owner for 13 years and having seen his work on Zs and roadsters.) Keith

The restoration has begun
Adam, I know the car had rust treatment; I was referring to rust proofing. Certain components of the 240Z had zinc or cadmium plating as well as the body was primed prior to painting. However, none of these coatings/steps prevented rust, they only delayed the formation of rust. Thanks for allowing me to clarify.

The restoration has begun
Fortunately, most of the car is in great shape, no evidence of prior collision repair. I do not plan to over-refresh the car. I just want to have confidence that I am not short stepping the process. I am not interested in manufacturing a "2009" 240Z, therefore I am not planning to update the car to contemporary standards. My goal is to have the car ride, sound, operate, and feel as it did when it was first manufactured. I get a lot of comments on suggested updates; poly bushings, wider wheels & tires, performance exhaust, 5 speed transmission, 2.8 liter motor, etc... I know that these enhancements may make the car perform better, however that is not my goal. Unfortunately, I do not have a point of reference on how the car felt when new. We are trying to match the weld points as closely as possible, so the car flexes as it was designed. So all I can do at this point is to use OEM parts and hope for the best.

I did not want to take any chances that rust was hiding, so this is the only way I could be sure.

Restoring/Disassembling 240z Tail Lights
Esprist, Does submersing the tail amp assembly in hot water loosen the "no-back washer in the middle of the back of the lens" (Lazeum mentioned above) and allow for the disassembly of the lens from the housing? Keith

240Z OEM shock inserts
I have been researching OEM shock inserts and have identified the following part numbers: 56105 E4125 normal resistance shock front 56105 E4185 firm resistance shock front 56205 E4125 normal resistance shock rear 56205 E4185 firm resistance shock rear Does anyone know what causes the shock to be either "normal" or "firm"? Is it the viscosity of the oil in the shock? Is the the internal valving of the shock? Also, which shock was installed during original manufacture of the 1970 model year? Thanks, Keith

Arne, I am glad to know the 5.25" would fit. I found a local company that would recone my original speaker, so I may go that route. Keith

Mike, I saw that post, the Kenwood speaker mentioned was replaced by the KFC-1352S. Both of these speakers are a 5.25". I am looking for a 5.125", the original size. Thanks, Keith

The restoration has begun
My painter said that the improvements/EPA mandates in paint technology precludes him from appling anything other than base/clear. I have know him for 12 years and he operates a legitimate business. (He repainted the front facia of my 300ZX 12 years ago, and it still looks great to this day!)

The color will remain the 920 code. I am defering to my painter to determine the proper paint match and number of base & clear coats. The tires are 175/80-14. I had a very difficult time locating the OEM size. I have six Bridgestone RD-150 and three Toyo Z-1 tires (all spare tires that have seen little or no mileage) sitting in storage waiting for the completion. I have been accumulating parts for this project for 21 years. As the car sits now, the only non-oem parts on it is the muffler, tires, seat covers, windshield and radiator. The a/c was dealer installed. The rust was added after retail delivery ;-)

Tokico S Series shocks
I recently located a NOS set of 4 Tokico S Series shocks (black cartridge). They are an oil based shock rather than the Tokico H Series shocks (blue cartridge) which are a gas based shock. Has anyone had any experience with the Tokico S Series shocks in terms of comfort and handling compared to the original 240Z shocks. I want keep the car as close to OEM as possible. Thanks, Keith

Reproducing Posters & Banners
I have an extensive collection of Old Datsun posters and banners from the 1960s and 1970s. Some have a copyright date and/or printing date. Others have a publisher and/or artist name. Some have no date or name markings. Some were issued by Nissan, some by independent companies. Others have no reference to who issued them. Other than Nissan, I have not been ascertain who may own a copyright or trademark or have any other "right" to the images, graphics, or text. I would like to know the the guidlines/laws related to reproducing these for limited circulation. Thanks, Keith
