  1. I was going to ask an elect. fuel pump question, but instead of hijacking...I will begin a new thread.
  2. Have you seen this thread? http://www.classiczcars.com/forums/showthread.php?p=197469#post197469
  3. I had this prob on one of my pumps. Try dismantling the pump to see if the one-way valves are stuck/varnished. When I dismantled mine, I found that the little rubber oil boot had torn, as well, causing a LOT of grime under the pump. Also, at installation, it is sometimes tricky to get the diaphragm piston connected to the diaphragm with the spring tight. This part, of course, is key to having the pump function.
  4. Thanks to the person(s) responsible for getting us back online!!!

Where, oh where, do I get me one of those ????
  6. I would love to have mine run as a daily. As it sits now, only once or so a month. Too many gremlins yet!
  7. I like sentences 3 thru 6.
  8. An incredibly easy way to bleed the brakes sans helper is this (as told to me by jmortensen): 1) Find an empty spaghetti jar with a metal lid, poke a hole large enough to accept a 1/4 inch diameter (about 5 feet long) clear plastic tube. 2) Put about an inch of new brake fluid in the jar, and replace the lid. 3) Insert the tube so that the end is submersed into the fluid. Place the other end of the tube over the bleed screw and loosen the screw. The tube will allow you place the jar in a position such that one would be able to view it from the driver's seat while bleeding any corner of the vehicle. 4) Just apply slow smooth pressure to the brake pedal until there are no more bubbles going into the jar. 5) Tighten the bleed screw and move to the next corner. The Driver-side brake line is actually longer than the rest, so start there and work your way around the car counter-clock-wise. Make sure you do not drain the MC reservoir or else you will need to start over!
  9. My wife actually found my first - the 01/71 - after I was looking for about 4 years, mostly passively. She saw an ad in the local "Gold Panner" it's like a penny saver, or thrifty nickle, or whatever they call it in your neck of the woods. For me, it was like finding a wife, never marry the first one you see!! I looked at countlesss ads and a few actual vehicles before the orange one came around. You will find her. Don't forget, she is looking for you, too!
  10. I agree! I have heard the term "Zipper Theory" for the most efficient merges. #s 1 thru 4 are the big nerve hitters in Sacramento, at least for me.

I have an '82 ZX ignition and alternator in my 01/71. Have for over a year now with no real probs. I do have a hesitation/tach jumpy- loss of power at high RPMs/load issue that I think will be answered with an inline elect. fuel pump.
  12. ...to make our driving experience better. A light hearted approach to complaining about dumbasses on the roads. As found on "The Best of Craigslist": Yeah, you could ride transit or carpool or bike, but that's not gonna happen, so here are easy things you can actually do. All of these fit a theme. Which is: It's not all about YOU out there. You are part of a collective. If everyone did these unselfish things, traffic would be much better: 1. Don't tailgate. When you tailgate, you have to tap your brakes at the slightest speed change. You tap for a second, the guy behind you taps for two, the guy behind him for four, and so forth. Ripple effect that equals slowdown. 2. Use onramps correctly. ACCELERATE! Get up to a speed that matches overall traffic, then merge seamlessly. Too many people here merge into 60 mph traffic at 40 mph. People hit their brakes, and again you get a ripple effect. 3. Honor the left lane. Move over when not overtaking cars. Yes, we've talked this one to death. Just do it. 4. Pick a lane and try to stick with it. Incessant lane changes for little real gain can cause slowdowns for much the same reason as the onramp example above. Think ahead: Will the lane you're in peter out soon, or turn into an exit-only lane? Get yourself in one that will see you through to your destination. 5. At stoplights, pay attention. If you're first in line waiting at a light, be sure you're pulled up far enough, as someone here already noted. Then PAY ATTENTION! Watch the light. When it changes, go! Driving is war, and you've got the point -- so stay alert! That goes for everyone in the back of the line too, but we have way too many people at the front who use stoplight time to apply makeup, read the paper, change the radio station or eat french fries off their car's floor. 6. Step on it. If traffic's going 60 in your lane, why aren't you keeping up with the guy ahead of you? Why do you feel the need to go 57? Again, you're part of a collective out there. Join in, please. 7. Don't go so fast you get pulled over. Because every time someone gets pulled over, it gums up traffic for the rest of us. People rubberneck and irrationally brake (like the trooper's gonna drop you to go after them), and the aforementioned ripple effect ensues. So drive briskly, but don't risk a ticket. If you're going over 70 in a 60 mph zone, you're risking it. 8. Look way down the road. I get on I-5 northbound everyday from Fairview at Mercer. Two lanes from Fairview are onramp only. Invariably someone is sitting in the middle, onramp-only lane who wants to go straight. And he just sits there, and people are stuck behind him. It happens at every signal, because the mope didn't READ THE SIGNS. Look ahead. Look far ahead. Look way past that big hurkin' SUV you're behind, if you can. The sooner you see signs and the sooner you see trouble, the sooner you can avoid messing up in a way that affects the rest of us. 9. Live the golden rule. Let people in. Wave when someone lets you in. I wish I had a buck for every time I've signaled to enter a gap in a lane, and the car that's far back in that lane guns it to try to keep me from moving over. No wait, I don't wish I had a buck, I wish I had his head on a pike. But you've gotta check that impulse too. Do unto others ... you know. 10. Devote yourself to the task. This is covered in many of the points above, but driving is not simply something you do to pass the time while listening to the radio. Driving is the all-consuming task at hand. So DO it -- briskly, efficiently and competently. So that we can all get out of each other's way. Thank you. http://www.craigslist.org/about/best/sea/223353880.html

I have been a repeat customer of Jim's as well. He has always been a straight dealer, and a quick shipper after payment. He has saved my butt more than once with new hoses.
  14. The one Webdawg1 posted is the one I have found!!! As soon as I whipped out the digicam, the battery died. It is being charged as I type!
  15. Are you sure that's the same car? Honestly, the quality of work you put into that car is phenomenal. It is awesome, and the color scheme is sweet, too!!
  16. Did some wanna-be gangsta get shot in that thing?????
  17. Option #1 : Pick and pull. Option #2 : Otherwise, I have a few doors, PM me we can work something out.
  18. You got a decoder/translator?
  19. Thanks for all the replies. Personally, I think it's rediculous for a street car, and the seller is a bit suspect. I agree with Will: the seller thinks he's got something that's more than it is, and isn't telling the straight story. I am not thinking of buying this car, I just thought a heady discussion of another "rare" vehicle would be good to have.
  20. Just found on Sacto Craigslist: http://sacramento.craigslist.org/car/203716245.html Please discuss...

Did the master ever run out of fluid during the caliper swap? Maybe the master needs to be bench bled?

What wfl_colorado said. When you synched the carbs, did you set the mixture screws? The most common starting point is to set the screws all the way tight, then back them out 2 1/2 turns. You will want to make sure that all the openings on the balance tube are covered and secured. Also, there may be additional vacuum openings on a 73 that my 71s don't have. Oh yeah, make sure the openings on top of the float bowls are vented to the atmoshpere. plugging them = not good.
  23. I will throw in my 2 cents... I have an 82ZX dizzy and alternator (thanks for the adaptor, Arne) and haven't had any problems. The toughest thing was getting the wiring correct, especially when the PO had a serious bout with POD when he installed an aftermarket electronic ignition (thanks again to Arne and jmortensen et. al.).
  24. And besides, you are kinda cute when you are angry!
  25. Hi! I sent a PM your way about 3 days ago...haven't seen a response. Do you still have the mustache bar?
