  1. Did the needle dance around previous to this? Was wondering... Let us know what it was...
  2. Doesn't exist with ECU. Unless you pick the systems up at a garage sale!!! Bri
  3. You're just lucky it's not fuel injected!!!:classic:
  4. Hey Zlish, If a SU carb is set up correctly, it will NOT start when cold without using the choke. Some days when its a warm summer day you might get lucky. For those of you that can fire up the ol' Z without choking the beast (now this is SU's mind you...) you are running rich. And, pumping these carbs in the morning is a waste of time because they have NO accelerator pump. I had to break the habit being a Chevy guy also..... So, Zlish, I would have to say that choking is normal, mine in the '73 take a while to be "happy", usually not until it's at at least 120 degrees. Hope it helps.... ~Brian
  5. I was experiencing the same stuff with the carbs on my '73. I went to Z Therapy and we established that the nozzles and needles needed replacing. I put in the SM needles from Ztherapy and it was the best $60 I've ever spent on that car... The color tune is going to do you no good in this sitch...however it is a good tool to have around. With an idle that comes and goes you have a vary in the amount of fuel that is introduced into the chamber. 2 1/2 turns should run the car. I would bet that you have worn nozzles. You can research this at Ztherapy.com, Steve is very helpful and has been working on these carbs for years, I highly recommed that you check them out. Feel free to call me, the symptoms that you have are close to the ones that I had...I know it can be very frustrating...:stupid: E-mail me in the event you want my number..... Good luck, ~Brian
  6. Yes, the wife is stumbling around like Ozzy Osbourne so I guess that you could say that she is better.... And you can just type JZ like the rest of the guys, the name is too long and had been around too long to change now... The RX7 pump was put in the black '74 and it made it faster. Just what it needed. I believe the 0 - 60 is around 4.5 seconds now. No, I am not kidding. First and second gear are a waste of my time. Can anyone donate slicks so I can hook up??????? I promise it will be a tax write-off!!!!!! ~Brian (or JZ)
  7. First of all, please correct me on this if I am wrong... That being said, I had a similar problem with the elec. pump on my '74. The car had sat for a year or so, the gas was garbage at best and the triple Mikunis had lost their prime. Even after getting rid of all the old fuel, I could not get the lines to pressure up when starting the car. I fought this for hours thinking it was bad gas in the carbs and after some poking around, I found that the pump will not cycle with the key in the "on" position. I even ran a test light and would get nothing at the wiring to the pump. Now, here's where I may be wrong...I was told that the pump will not run unless the alternator is turning, which activates a relay and the fuel pump comes to life. This was a safety precaution from Nissan in the event that the car was in a crash or the motor quit, once the alternator stops turning, so does the fuel pump. The reason that I am telling you this is because I wired up a good fuel pump that I had tested before I installed it and when I turned the key on to listen to the pump, I got nuthin'. Once the motor starts, my fuel pump runs without a problem. Don't chase your tail like I did thinking it was pump / wiring / me loosing my mind... This can be a real problem if the Mikunis loose their prime, which after some disassembly and cleaning that problem stopped. I installed a push button test switch that I can press for a bit to key the fuel pump to prime 'em up before I crank it over. It has been handy. And no, this is not a switch that can be accidentally left on, you need to hold it down to complete the circut, when you let it go, the circut is broke.... I also put in a glass filter just before the fuel rail that you can see the fuel pumping thru. It's nice to see the action of your pump doing it's job, that way you KNOW that the system is getting fuel. Not only that, you can keep an eye on the cleanliness of your fuel also. By the way, I am running the electric pump only on the '74. It seems to supply the Mikunis just fine, I have buddies that have triples on their track cars and they are pushing 9 LBS to them. I did pick up an RX7 pump and it works great, comparable in-line pumps at NAPA were around $60 to $100 and then would require a regulator also. It gets spendy quick. Hope it goes well, keep us posted.
  8. Hey Monkey, How are you posting those pictures to your thread without using the attachment? I was trying to include a picture to a recent thread and all I could do was attach a file instead of pasting a picture directly? Gotta tell me how.... Bri
  9. What reverse lights? That's one thing that I do not like... Not that I spend that much time in reverse..... Although I wish I could in life..... And Britt, I'm not sure what they are out of....Anton (previous owner) was at a show of some kind and this guy was sellling the setup. It's a one piece part that goes across the taillight portion.... Happy T-day.... And thanks for the feedback!! Enjoy your families today and let's all be thankful for our Z's. B
  10. I got a headache thinking about it Mike. I hope that someone can shed light on this or I will loose sleep for about a month. And as for you Opitowhatever, how did you come about that name? Oh shi*, I think that it's becoming a migrane. ilovemyzilovemyzilovemyzilovemyz. Ahhhhhhh, I feel better. ~Brian.
  11. Here's part one: Ok, here we go, The PREVIOUS owner of my '74 converted the rear light system to this somewhat Ferrari 308, of which I will have pic's of tomorrow for your review... Has anyone seen this in the past? I hated it at first, now it seems to be growing on me or I am getting lazy in the switchover. Or switchback whichever it is. Give me some feedback on this, I will post the pics tomorrow. I can't afford the Ferrari (yet) and (give me about a hundred years) I figure if I want a Ferrari butt I should get the dog too.. Let 'er rip...It's up to you guys / gals... AND THE SAGA CONTINUES!!! Here are the pics of the rear of the Z, I still can't decide, and I checked my stock and the tail asslembly I have is from a 280... Here we go, and like I said, I'm gonna regret this.... Remember, I did not do this I am mearly seeking opinion.... Godspeed. Bri
  12. Let me know, you got my phone number e-mail, right? B
  13. The dual friction needs a special throw out bearing, the complete set dual friction and bearing is $282. That's a whole lotta clutch... Brian

  15. I can relate, and yes, they do snore as loud...
  16. I know that this is not dogz.org but please tell me just how pathetic this is. And yes, the Shepard is full grown and NO the dane dose NOT fit in the Z. (Or anything for that matter...) ~Bri

The course had cones I take it? I miss that....Used to do it locally, what a blast! I know that I can speak for myself and hopefully everyone else on congratulating you on a race well done!!! Proud of ya!! Brian
  20. Mine is a Centerforce One, not the dual friction... I can check on the dual friction if you like. My '74 has a bunch of power, the centerforce one was the clutch in it previously and the guy had great luck with it. I actually prefer a clutch that will give before anything else in the drivetrain... Anyhow, let me know on what you would like me to check on and I will do so... Have a great night.... Brian
  21. I am not sure why this was in the "for sale" portion.... But what ended up happening? The suspense is killing me....... ~Brian
  22. SMG is right about burning out any clutch if you try hard enough... I just put in a centerforce I into my '74 260, it's around 300 horse (so I've been told) and I feels real close to that. It's not pretty, but it's fast. The clutch was around $160 my cost with the throwout bearing.... And don't forget that... Let me know if I can help.... ~Brian
  23. Ed - I just tell her that the Z is coming in or I'm going out... At that point in time I'm better off inthe garage anyway...
  24. Holy crap. That's all I can say.
  25. I thought the same thing but the motor only has around 36k since it was put together.... I could almost bet ya that the previous owner more than likely never adjusted the valves, it's strange, they make no noise what-so-ever.... Have a great night and thanks for the quick post!! ~Brian
