And those bubbles, commonly called vapor bubbles implode against whatever surface the coolant is touching. They implode with a high velocity jet of coolant which removes material from the surface with a pressure that can excede 15,000 psi. The phenomenon is referred to as pitting in the industry. Bill, I think the grease is for the contact between the rod in the booster and the piston in the M/C. You want a grease that wont attack rubber. Just wipe out any large particles before you attach the M/C. I use Lubriplate #105 Motor assembly grease. Its anti-wear, anti-seize and excellent for hinges, locks and latches. Chris

I can only assume this but, in my 71 FSM, on the page where it showed the two different types, it mentioned something about the US and Canada. Maybe that is the difference. I recall reading somewhere that the Canadian cars had less parts on the intake system than the US cars. Maybe that difference called for different carbs. Mystery to me. I would have to believe that the 3 screw carb has a different number than the 4 screw carb. And the ones that have the water heating would certainly be different. My 72 had water heated carbs versus my 71's being non heated. Chris

My 71 FSM showed either the downdraft carb for the L20A/L24 and the twin "SU type" carb for the L24. I thought it interesting that my copy of the 71 FSM showed two different numbers for twin carbs on the same page in different pictures(page EF-17 for those following along). It shows HJG46W in the first picture and HJL46W in the second picture. Maybe the HJL46W carbs are for cars made after 8 of 71. Tech specs on the 71 twins are: Bore=46mm Weight=6.834lbs(3.1kg) Venturi=34mm Fuel Pressure=3.414 lb/sq in Needle valve diameter=2.0mm Nozzle A Jet Needle N-27 Suction Spring #23 And for some useless info: The single carb was listed as a DAF342-6A on the G130 model cars. And a DAF342-8A or DAF342-9A for the H130 and HA30 model cars. I thought maybe the 73 FSM would show numbers for carbs before Nissan went to the flat tops but it didnt list any but the number you already stated. "HMB46W-1". I went through the whole fuel section in the 71 & 73 FSM and that's all it showed. Hope it helps you some. Chris

Even though the car was rusty, it was my daily driver for many years. It never left me stranded. Ever. I have to admit I was more than a little sad to watch Bill and his dad drive off in it Friday night. But now I can spend more time with my baby(the 73)!!! Chris

The reporter got sent to Japan to check out the R34GTR Vspec2. He didnt get to drive it, only do a ride along. Supposedly (according to the article) he had to have the driver pull over so he could puke from the roller coaster like ride he was given. HAHAHA, what a wuss. I guess they call the car something along the lines of Godzilla. Because its a monster of a car. It really is a shame they were never brought to the states. Makes me wonder if the US automakers didnt want their precious Vettes, Vipers and the rest embarrased by a Japanese car with just a six cylinder in it. I hope everyone realizes that Bill was fully aware of the car's body condition. But I think they came and got it for the motor. I think with the collection of Z's he has now, he can put together something that will make him happy. I was really surprised that they came at all but, when you have that Z bug in you, you do some wild things. They are good people. They mean well and that's what matters. I was just happy to take Bill for a ride in my 73 so he could experience a small part of the thrill that makes us all love these cars. His grin was ear to ear! I once drove 600 miles for an L24/E88 that had been used as an irrigation pump motor. So I can relate. Bill, I hope you can find a way to enjoy the 72 and most of all, do with it what YOU want.
