I know you usually approach these types of things in a more.. ahh.. diplomatic manner, but a strong opinion means you're passionate As I believe everyone in this thread certainly is... How come it was the American version that was the "core design", and everything else stemmed from that? Remember, America was the odd one out when it came to specifications, as mentioned earlier. Did Nissan design the car with soft suspension and a 4-speed and then make variations of this (which were all pretty similar) for other markets? I don't think so... There was the domestic model, and the export model. Of course there were changes made for each country's regulations (e.g. American cars had rear reflector repeaters fitted), but there wasn't a single "Original 240Z" from which everything else stemmed. This is what Alan is talking about I think (correct me if I'm wrong). There is absoltuely no doubt America was important (most important?), but not the "core design". When Porsche was contracted to design the KdFWagen, do you think he was designing from the US specifically? Of course not... Granted the situation has its differences, but fact remains at the design stage of the S30Z no one expected it to sell so well in the US. That is why Matsuo told Ben it was a world car. You make it sound like everything (even the domestic market cars!) were an afterthought! Yeah, if it's to be published in America. I wonder (genuinely) what kind of information Japanese Z-car history books have.... Err, the Fairlady Z wasn't designed for the Japanese market? Is that a typo, or are your beliefs really that twisted? Anyway, I just thought I'd throw in my opinion too. The beauty of the Internet eh?

  7. I don't think it was because there was a total lack of demand in America for the 5 speed. It's obvious that there was some demand, but from what I've learnt about Nissan (and this is pure speculation here) it could have been simply that the extra cost outweighed the benefits. Remember, there were hundreds of these things being shipped to the US. Manufacturing processes were very good at Nissan, but adding the optional 5-speed for a big, far away market adds another level of complexity to it. That's why dealers customised a lot of the cars. It's much easier to do that than assemble custom drivetrains in the factory... and imagine the wait! Giving the option of a 5 speed would have made more customers happy I'm sure, but I think it could have cost more than it was worth...... My thoughts anyway. (like Alan said, one thing is for sure - it wasn't for the lack of power of domestic models! America is the odd one out here, not Japan!)

  15. I tried to find the ADR's online but apparently you have to pay $70.60 for the honour... They just can't help themselves can they? I would be very keen on knowing when the date was exactly...
  16. I guess my 240Z with clear front indicators was "ricey" then? I think they look good on the Z31, but I dont think they would look so hot on an S30... I dont think the "futuristic" thing works on a classic car. Anyway, Alan someone has already tried your idea! Unfortunately, it didn't make the entire car go invisible... :paranoid:

  21. Hello! Well, after my dual-exams today I bought a small rubber bung and put it in place. Looks perfect I was driving my brothers car (he has two, so I use one when my car is off the road) and felt rocks in the footwell. When I got home to my surprise they weren't rocks, they were small pieces of broken blue plastic! Ahh! I must have swept them up with my thongs and transferred them to this car. Seemed a little peculiar though, and I wanted to see if the switch setup was the same as my car so I went under the dash..... you wouldn't believe it - the bung in HIS car was missing too!! How very strange. Both plastic brake-switch pieces broke at the same time. What are the chances of that? Anyway, now I need another bung!
