  1. About 1 oz per 2.5 gallons of gas or about 6-7 oz for the Z. I only use it if the truck is going to be idle for 2 months or more. Since I drive the Z at least once a week, I only use the battery maintainer and the Stabil in the truck.
  2. No. The 'All Datsun Beach BBQ' is a different event. That's one where you bring a donation like canned goods etc. and kick back and eat burger and 'dogs and talk Datsun. I think that one is put on by UFO and Group Z. It's May 10th this year.
  3. I think the others belong to his boys. I don't think I'd risk a trip from Nor Cal to So Cal with only three days to prepare. When I do that kind of mechanical work on a car, new engine, trans, radiator, etc., I like to take it for a 'shakedown' run. About a 30-40 mile loop that doesn't get me too far from home. That way if there's a problem, I can call AAA and get it towed home to sort it out. I hate to have a problem somewhere along the way on a, what, 300+mile trip?
  4. Bad connections or internal regulator on it's way out. My gauge in my 78 reads just short of 16v when the car is running w/o headlights, ac, etc. but when I check it with a voltmeter it's about 14.2-14.3 so those gauges aren't reall that accurate. My 810 reads right at 15v but agiain, when I check it with a voltmeter it's at 14.1-14.2.
  5. They really didn't "go under". Les Cannaday of Classic Datsun Motorsports, who basically put on the show, just got burned out after ten years of doing it. Not enough people were pre-registering, difficulty in finding a venue, etc.
  6. Look underneath the three shaded areas.
  7. I don't know if there's anything specific on EFI that "always screws up" but I had to replace the cold start valve on both cars when I bought them as well as the temp sensor on the 810. The air pressure regulator was problematic on the 810 when I first got the car but I cleaned it out and it still works fine. All the rest of the EFI components on both cars are the originals or at least the ones that were on it when I purchased them.
  8. Wrong thread, Bill. In that case the question would be "How often does law enforcement notice you in your classic Z on the road?":)
  9. Does your car accelerate normally? You might have a problem with your BCDD if the idle hangs at 1500 and then drops to normal when you're stopped. That or a bad altitude switch (if it's a California car) can cause that problem. Been through that with mine. Do you have a FSM?
  10. You might also want to check your fan clutch.
  11. A follow up to the Surfside/Turfside Show. Like I said, the last two events were held at Deer Park Winery/Auto Museum. It was a very nice secluded place that featured a winery, a cafe, and an incredible automobile museum that featured basically American convertibles and a couple of MG's, Benzes and the last VW beetle convertible as well as collections of antique radios, televisions, and appliances. The owner passed away a couple of years ago and the park has been closed since then but, according to the article, as of mid-08 Deer Park will be open the first weekend of each month and will be operated by the deceased owner's son. http://www.jeffreysward.com/tributes/deerpark.htm#pic
  12. It became the Classic Datsun Turfside Show and was held in 2001 and 2002 at Deerpark Winery and Auto Museum in Escondido, Ca. Les said he got burned out on puting on that show. My truck and I kind of miss it too:)
  13. Ah yes. The old 'S130/810/Maxima fan on an S30' trick. So you're a member of that club too?
  14. And the second one made it's reserve and is at $5301 ATM. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ih=015&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWA%3AIT&viewitem=&item=250235671618&rd=1
  15. Yep. Considering the guys I deal with occasionally at the local dealerhip, I'd print that frist picture out and take it with me.
  16. Er, dude, those are 280Z hubcaps.
  17. They'll help the mileage. Leaking vacuum is like leaking mpg. EFI or carb.
  18. The original 75 boot is the one that doesn't have the plug. 16578-N4200 is the part number if you want to check with Nissan.
  19. That switch is just a replacement for the semi-automatic switch. You don't really need a switch for a fully automaitc antenna. It can either be wired to the stereo if the stereo is aftermarket or to the accessory circuit if you still have the original radio. A fully automatic antenna works differently, sensing two sources of power to go up (12v switched and 12v unswitched) and one source to go down (12v unswitched). I suppose that could be done with switch but that would be more of a subject for Dave. Technically speaking, the 'switch' is already an internal part of a fully automatic antenna and all it needs are the two power sources. I could figure it out but I'm sure he already know how to set that up.
  20. RC7, looling at your second picture, it's obvious that the clutch disc is not aligned and you'll never get the trans in with it in that position. Loosen up your pressure plate and follow Jay's advice ^ making sure the alignment tool is firmly seated in the pilot bushing before you re-tighten the bolts.
  21. A leak in that boot would cause problems because it's a vacuum leak. I think the main difference between the 75 and the 76/78 is in where the hose from the air regulator connects to it. IIRC, the 75 doesn't have that opening on top for the air reg. hose. Take a look at the pictures in post #3 in this thread.
  22. Well, I'm glad you solved it but you really didn't give us enough info to help you. Back in post 12 or so, someone asked if you had fuel flow. You never responded to that. Instead you bought spark plugs and a starter. A little more detailed info and we could have helped you find that bad fuel pump and saved you shop cost since that's a fairly easy install.
  23. Does livinzlife=ztanamoz? There was a thread a while back that was based on someone crossing jumper cables but I can't seem to find it. Don't seem to be able to come up with the correct search words and I gave up after about 15 tries. But I'm not the one with the problem. Try to find that thread or use the electrical troubleshoothing section in the 1980 280ZX factory service manual. Otherwise, you're just listening to a bunch of guesses and/or throwing parts at it until you get it fixed.
  24. You 'made a new one?' In other words, you replaced a fusible link with wire? I hope you changed that to a real fusible link at the first opportunity.

Sounds like you're describing the illumination rheostat for the guage lights.
