  1. Yeah... that relief was also a little off as I hand built the replacement “bulldog” end of the rocker. It looks like I might have made it about 1/8” too low as the panel doesn’t want to wrap around it easily. Again my own fault. I will get a pic of the rear of the door too.

  4. I am not done fitting the door too. It can be adjusted up a bit and that should help. I have seen worse, but I expected a bit better. Like I said, I can make this look better before I am done, I'm just not sure I want to invest the time welding and repairing the panels at this point. Lesson learned....
  5. I haven’t finished fitting the other side yet but it looks a little tighter. This is my bad. I didn’t hang the panels first before finishing the inside edges etc. I completely forgot and skipped that step in my rush to the finish line. At this point, I can do as you say and weld new metal to the edges, remove the door and fender, grind and finish the welds, repaint the panels and rehang them... a loss of a lot of work already done and adding a lot more time to the build. Or, I can work a small amount of edge fill in with fibreglas filler to extend the edge lines a little closer and have less gap and less repaint work on the panels. I am not too unhappy with the gap size as I think it will hide well on a dark car. I am more concerned with it being balanced to the rear edge which is also a little off top to bottom. Again, this isn’t a concourse car and I don’t expect perfection. I would really like to see this car on the road this summer and there is a ton of work to do still.

  8. $800 Cdn for hinges? Not even new but your own set rebuilt? That takes a special kind of deep pocket...
  9. Some more work on the nacelles today. After I got them coated with truck bed liner on the inside, I prepped them for paint. The last picture shows the high gloss clear coat and you can even see the ceiling filter and burnt out fluorescent bar! Very happy.

  11. Hatch lined up nice. Refurbed (painted) gas shocks still work good. Only the outer seal installed as the inner seal won’t let the hatch close easily and will put off the body work. I will get the seals sorted later.

  16. The CUSMA should help keep a lot of our costs down, but there are so many exceptions, it’s hard to say....
  17. Because we buy most of our parts from the states. Our dollar is worth 30% less than yours so if we both make $50,000 a year, you actually have 30% greater buying power. Top that with ridiculous shipping fees, taxes, and brokerage and we end up about 40% more cost in restoring a car. That’s life.
  18. Today has been a lesson in patience... had to basically assemble the whole door to get the power window regulator installed. Still waiting for the door locks to arrive and this should be good to go. custom door skins to come later.
  19. I’m out at that price. It’s about a $10,000 car max and then another $20,000 to restore properly. edit: pics finally loaded on my phone. I agree that $6000 is a max value seeing the rust and problem areas.
  20. Thanks, but I am good now. I have enough parts purchased from local friends to finish them the way I want. The fact we Canadians have to accept is that the cars we love cost about 40% more to restore here than in the US. We don’t earn 40% more than Americans to cover our costs and when all our parts come from overseas or the US, we pay that much more with exchange, shipping and brokerage.
  21. I had three shops quote and they are all around the same price. Basically they are buying the same parts as me from the internet and up charging.
  22. $2400 was for custom foams and covers. All of your prices are great in the states but seat foams alone come to $500 Cdn delivered. Exchange and shipping is a deal killer for most of us. I have seat covers and three sets of seats now. One of the sets has new foams so I will rebuild one set with those foams and my new covers. I am looking for a good supplier of rolls of vinyl for the other section pieces now.
  23. My local upholstery shop wanted $1200 per seat to restore them... out of my league. None of the locals have stock of the old style materials and want multiple appendages for their product.
