  1. I've heard bad things about the IR pyrometers, and was told to stay away from them. Also got some feedback on another board, so it looks like I have something to go with finally, thanks
  2. What is a recommended alignment for a road raced car, that is still street driven. In other words I am not looking for -4º camber, but for someone to suggest less than -1º is ridiculous, unless for the rear. I ran -1.5º and wish I went for more, tire wear is not a problem and I dont expect it to be until I get beyond -2.0º Suggestions on what works well?
  3. You could always give the ricer excuse, "Yeah but I'll take you in the twisties..........."
  4. One huge advantage of running a larger engine, is not only less strain on the internals, but not having to run 100-116 octane gas to make high HP numbers. The Camaro which used to be my daily driver, made 411 RWHP with an ignition miss, costing me about 600 RPM less than where I intended to peak out. That was NA, with a streetable cam, and shorty headers, $2260 for most of the parts, minus headers, cold air, and Tunercat, and of course minus the engine costs, stock bottom end.
  5. Well, there will come a point when you have to shave the heads if you are looking at wanting 10s, then raise the cam tower etc. http://www.geocities.com/motorcity/2824/engine.html http://www.geocities.com/MotorCity/2824/head.html Good luck
  6. Springs will sag with age, but worn struts/shocks are MUCH more an issue than old springs.

  8. Yep, I will stick carb for now, but did consider a Megasquirt box ~$100, but then need the injectors from a later Z and then a fuel pump and then....

Wow, that looks sweet. FWIW, I have no idea what a Sunny is
  10. If there were an easy and reasonably inexpensive way to log and re-program the ECUs I'd go FI in a heartbeat... Oh well

I'm not much of anyone for other than stock emblems, but it looks like a very clean job!
  12. When the carb is cold, fuel doesn't want to atomize, so the choke makes the carb run richer to help make up for that. Mine most definately wont start without the choke, unless I stick my foot in it to get it doing 1500-2000 RPM, and even then without the choke it would probably take me several restarts to get it running constantly.

    I can't see/find an emblem?
  14. If you run Windows, see this thread: http://www.240z.org/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=1292 The calculator will help you with what you need to know.
  15. Yep, $100 is not unreasonable at all, quality rod ends are $ I think they are a great mod, I dont have one for the Z yet but have it for the Camaro, definately a nice addon, especially if you stiffen up the suspension, these will help allow it to do its job instead of just flexing the body.

I dont really dig the Vette style tail lights either, if the vents aren't functional in the fenders then they are a waste. Otherwise it looks great, like a Porch
  17. Someone else suggested a possible worn linkage, allowing leakage. I wouldn't doubt these could use a freshening up though, so I will probably tear them down hopefully this weekend and find out whats going on, as far as even what jets etc it has (I'd assume whatever it came off of donor wise, a 260Z perhaps?).
  18. EScanlon, makes sense, GM cars were the same way until the 70s.
  19. Royce, I am checking with local folks on a list I'm on, and am trying to find out if there is some stuff in San Jose, which is only 45ish miles south of me. Sac is pretty close, I head up there once in awhile. I just need to get off my lazy behind and go down to one sometime and look...
  20. Here is a bit of info on the various generations: http://www.geocities.com/motorcity/2824/engine.html
  21. I don't know if its true, but http://www.geocities.com/motorcity/2824/engine.html http://www.geocities.com/MotorCity/2824/head.html claims that (F54 block) P79 head equipped engines during 81-83 got flat tops ONLY of the L28 series. Eric, sent you a PM Thanks!
  22. Basically you can look at the breakdown for the VIN for color options and the normal stuff, the rest is going to be standard info out there on most Z fan sites in regards to engine operation, gear ratios available and etc
  23. Eric, how much are these going for? I'm not too too far... Do you happen to know yet if they are flat top or dished?
  24. I assume you mean dealer options and such?
  25. Mudge replied to ZmeFly's topic in Parts Swapping
Good points, and thanks for the info! I'll see what I can digup...
