  1. You guys are great! I went to check the junkyard distributor once more before I put it in. Took the vacuum advance dash pot set screw loose to see how easy it would push back and forth. Found a BB. Damn! I was already primed for auto maintenance too, I gave it a nice spa treatment instead. It was drinking wax like I was drinking beer. We both had a good time.
  2. I'm sorry for posting so many questions on this but I can't find an answer about the Ohms needed for the Flamethrower coil. Do I want the higher Ohms or the lower Ohms for a 240Z with the ZX distributor. They go from 3 Ohms to 0.6 Ohms. Thanks for the help, Cliff
  3. You mean that's some kind of "There is scarcely anything in the world that some man cannot make a little worse, and sell a little more cheaply.", chrome? Thanks Blue. I watched Old School last night, thought of you and L'dOL when Frank the Tank screamed "Blue!, you're my boy!"
  4. Did the Flame Thrower get along nicely with your OE tach? Is the stock one for a ZX or a 240? Thanks Steve
  5. Would a Flame Thrower like you have on your '77 be a good one? Like this one with the lowest ohm 0.6, http://shop.advanceautoparts.com/p/pertronix-pertronix-45001-flame-thrower-ii-coil-45-000-volt-0.6-ohm-chrome-45001/10110876-P?searchTerm=flamethrower
  6. I'm about to install a ZX distributor in a '72 240Z and was reading that I need a ZX coil also. Is there one that's nicer to the old tachometer in my car or does it matter? Thanks for any replies, Cliff
  7. Thanks for that read. I guess the only real ones were the orange one from Cleveland and the one in Dubai? "All a new owner needed for the full Z-car time-travel experience was a few stray roaches in the ashtray and Santana's "Abraxas" on the 8-track." I need an 8-track.
  8. If you have some pictures of the car you should put them up for the club members to see. You'll be amazed at what all these folks could tell you from looking at them. I just put a "gas pump" on my '72. It has the A/C compressor mounted on the passengers side firewall and made a simple 3 bolt swap out a major job, for me anyway.
  9. I bought a Z a couple of weeks ago and it revs fine but would sputter on the road. Bought 4 Fram G-2 fuel filters and threw them in the tool storage with a palm electric screwdriver. I'm on the 3rd one as of last night. I'm hoping I'll get all the crap out of the tank through those filters, I mount them where the OE one goes by the fuel pump for a quicker swap. I have a finer screen glass one right before the pump but it stays clean. Slow fuel flow leans them out when under load.
  10. It was a tough fight but I won! after loosening that big old bracket, dropping the alternator and removing the fan and water pump. If that thing didn't blow cold air I would have left it off.
  11. Wow that Acura is cooool!
  12. Don't drink mushroom Kool-Aid and paint your motor.
  13. They need gas powered blowers if they want to go farther than the Dyno machine. :bulb:
  14. That's not 20 weight, Amazon.com: 3-IN-ONE 10045 Motor Oil, 3 oz. (Pack of 1): Industrial & Scientific
  15. Here it is, 1971 240z for sale. Bored L28, Triple Mikuni. OBO
  16. Put your gauge before the filter and see what you have.
  17. Could the filter up front be stopped up?
  18. Thank you all for your replies. I believe I'm going to get this stuff, Mega Mat 50 sqft Butyl Fatmat Sound Deadener "The Best" Free Dynamat Sample | eBay Thanks again, Cliff Nope, this size : http://www.fatmat.com/shop/25-sq-ft-mega-mat-butyl-bulk-pack-install-kit-included-6593
  19. That's the #1 personality trait that I look for, a sense of humor, as I'm a goof-ball myself. I'm 45 and have never been married.
  20. Go to an auto parts store and get a loaner vacuum gauge. I put one on mine yesterday, new to me car, and it pulled 17 hg at idle after replacing all the rotted lines.
  21. If it goes away when you push in the clutch it's the throw out bearing. I agree with above, do it all and don't worry again.
  22. That picture of the hole in your block brings back memories of mine. In '89 a girl I was dating drove my '76 Z. She said "it just quit", I thought the starter was locked up because it would click and that's it. Me and my Dad went to tow it home. He got down to look under the car for a tow hook and said "well there's your problem". There was a rod laying on the ground and a baseball size hole just like your picture.
  23. I've seen that stuff on amazon.com, maybe that's the way I go. Thanks and do you remember the thread title of that car you did? It's been a couple of years and I'd like to see those pictures. Ha! found it already, http://www.classiczcars.com/forums/body-paint-s30/44008-insulating-cabin.html. I put my pointer on a picture held down the "S" key and right clicked. Love that Google Chrome.
