I like the looks of that one too. The sticker on the valve cover makes me think it's a really stock motor. You could have that p79 shaved a little to bring up the CR. After reading on here for years those seem to be the head people want. I gave one away a couple of yesrs ago but it was to a nice guy so no regrets. I know where a couple more are.

The glaring, it wasn't inspected by the Quality Assurance Inspector. There's your problem.

I'd bet the n47 has an oiler cam too. The 75 76 n42 had spray bars only then they started the oiler cam. Kinda of rare from the reading i did in 2011. I have an n42 on mine. They have square exhaust ports with no liners the round ones do. People didn't like them at first but i think that's changed now. Diseazed has a great motor he puts in his Zs with p79 which has the liners. You should read his build specs. That datsungarage page tells how to do it or google "diseazed engine classiczcars.com". He runs carbs though so i kinda wonder how well efi will work with a high compression motor. I've read stock efi doesn't like agressive cams and would be that crappy running you've spoken of earlier. Ferg does your n47 have a spray bar and an oiler cam? My 9/76 build date did. You want a turbo oil pump either way i think. The nissan turbo head bolts too. I'm getting the horse ahead of the cart now so I'll quit. Get you a notebook and start making your to do list then parts needed. I ended up enjoying working on mine rather than driving them. Keeps me busy and the mileage down.

Probably said this before but the best money i spent was Tom Monroe's "how to rebuild datsun/nissan L motors". $20 from Amazon. Bought parts i knew i would need every chance i could. retailmenot.com had 30% coupon codes for Advance Auto. Buy online and pick up in store, no shipping. Starter, alternator, chemicals like aviation gasket sealant and anti seize. Assembly lube etc. and a felpro gasket set. I reused my bolts but now you can buy stainless whole car kit from zcardepot.

I would try and find a cheap borscope that uses your phone for the display to stick down the plug holes to look at the piston tops. You want flat for sure but also no small holes from corrosion or pre-detonation. The smoothest tops. Harbor freight or amazon has them. Someone was talking about one not too long ago but i can't remember where the bought it. Seems like it worked with bluetooth?

I've read the turbo has more wiring than the stock wiring harness plus you need the turbo ECU. The turbo may need rebuilding plus there is more piping on a turbo. Things I've read in the past only, never owned a turbo car but they were fun back in the 80s. @Zed Head is more familiar with zcar.com, that's were most of the turbo guys hang out. He may shed some light on this? I'd go the N/A P90 route also because I like to keep things as simple as I can. You won't out run these newer cars with a turbo Z. Save your money for a 240. I rebuilt my '77 L28 myself for $500 or so, new everything except the basic engine parts. Reused the block, crank and pistons and head. gaskets, oil pump water pump fuel pump and injectors, new timing components

Never touched the inner parts of a caberurator before, watched the video a few times and rebuilt mine to new working condition. Take your time and plenty of pictures for reference. It's orange here and called off road diesel for farming and construction equipment. If you get caught with that in a OTR vehicle heavy fine. That dye stains the fuel system for a long time, maybe forever? Truckers get caught with it all the time. Never understood the reasoning behind that, farmers can use but independent truckers can't. So you have a "quick and dirty" way to get the most efficiency out your heater. Smart guy! I look for blue flames with natural gas. Orange has too much oxygen.

How do you get the oil for house heating? Does the price fluctuate like fuel oil? Curious to know how that works. We have natural gas down here. A lot of heat pumps that switch over to gas at 32F. That's what I'll get next.

You have a high bar! I hope you can get there. I'd try for a Porsche if you have deep pockets. These old Zs are not too much for racing competitively any more, endurance track time more or less is all. Closed off parking lots and such. You need to see what you can find on Facebook. Atlanta is your best bet. Talladega has a road course infield. Get you a nice Z and restore it. You'd be ahead of the game and this forum will start to work on you as far as racing a classic Z. Great cars but not so competitive anymore. There worth so much money you'd be underwater racing one. My .02 cents.

Motor tilts to the passenger's side. Make a line down the center of the cam towers so your lobes will be straight up to the tilted motor. If you have them pointed straight up to your eyes they're off a little. That 180 degree evap hose has to be done or it won't vent right. It will pinch and cause fumes not to evacuate to the tank.
